I have always gone to Front Royal Canoe Company, they are just outside of Front Royal on Rt. 340, its around $20 per tube and they never charged me for a cooler tube. There is another one called Shenandoah River Outfitters that charges $18/tube and then another $6 for a cooler tube. I've never been tubing in Harper's Ferry but I have heard that it is a fun trip.

Front Royal Canoe is by far the best. My friends and I went to Harpers Ferry last week and it was terrible. The water is low. Everyone left bruised from all the rocks. It took 5 hours for what should have been a 2 or 3 hour trip.

There is a significant population of white trash there. You have to watch a safety video before you go. Apparently (I'm guessing when the water levels are agreeable) law enforcement patrols the water for drunk tubers and you can get a $500 fine. It's a joke. I would definitely advise finding a place on the Shenandoah instead of Harpers Ferry - just call ahead to reserve your spot and see if the water levels are agreeable per the drought.

here's a few other places to check out --

Virginia Outdoor Center on the Rappahannock in Fredericksburg, www.playva.com -- call and see what the conditions are as the Rapp gets real bony when it hasn't rained in awhile; climbing around on the rocks adds some fun though

Dowriver Canoe on the SF Shenandoah in Bentonville, www.downriver.com -- these guys have a daily update on their website describing the water level

Watermelon Park on the main Shen in Berryville, www.watermelonpark.com -- this is trailer trash party central! sometimes live music playing there; water level is usually still floatable when the South Fork is low

I have always gone w/ Virginia River Trips. I went last year, had a great time! www.virginiarivertrips.com is there web site, I think. I live in Fairfax, so they were just about a 1 hour drive from our house. My wife who is not very outdoorsy wants to go back, probably because it is family oriented and is relaxing and scenic in terms of the tubing. Not sure yet if we will be tubing next year or canoeing but its all the same. Regardless, if you are looking for a place to go tubing or canoeing on the Shenandoah, I recommend Virginia River Trips.
