Depends. How much primer you run?

Do you run giant tachometer? Yes? Judge say: Pay!

Pep boys exhaust? Oh. You pay. Sorry.

i forget the base price of a speeding ticket but i do know that it's $5 for every MPH you over the limit. the ticket will be more than $100. for something less than wreckless (which is 20 over), it's not worth going to court.

you can "prepay" one of these ways. i suggest you pay online with a credit card (it will tell you the cost) and it's explained how to do so here: http://www.courts.state.va.us/caseinfo/tickets.html

Things to consider when contesting a ticket....

Never say the cop lied. He is an officer of the court, so you're basically saying the court itself lies. Bad idea.

It wasn't the car next to you. Its been done and doesn't work. Trust me, I've been on both sides of that argument.

Anything short of reckless (ie 20 mph over posted limit or excess of 80mph) you can admit fault and attribute it to loss of concentration or whatever. Say it won't happen again, accept responsibility.

ASK FOR DRIVER IMPROVEMENT SCHOOL.

Fall back on a good driving record. Been driving for 15 years and this is your first ticket? Say so, prove you're a good driver that made a mistake and ask for reduced fine.

dont ASK for improvement school, go do it on your own. i was in court like 4 months ago and this judge ripped into this one girl for asking for it. judge said court making you go to driving school does no good, if you were really interested in bettering yourself youd take your own iniative!! sure enuf, 4 ppl later a guy who took it pon himself to go to driver school on his own, along with his +5 driving record, judge threw out the ticket! hey that reminds me, does anyone know what +5 means? whats the maximum/minimum points you can have?

If it not wrekless driving pay the fine and go to court. In Maryland you have a fighting chance at court (cop does not show up, pleading and crying, etc) In VA, from what I have seen, begging for mercy gets you nowhere.

That being said, years ago I got caught running a red light. I spent all morning in traffic court. It was nearly noon and I was the last case called. The judge was really cool to me. She asked what I wanted. I said leniancy. She asked me how long the light was red. I responded "less than a second". She asked the cop the same question. The cop smiled and laughed and said "less than a second". The judge, who had dealt with some pretty stupid people all morning, just started laughing herself. Then Said "you spent the entire morning in my courtroom for less than a second... I will call that even." And dimissed the case.

By this time, I was laughing, the cop was laughing, and all the other people in the courtroom were laughing.

Very cool judge.

I went to court another time and the place was full of, shall we say, out of towners. They stood there before the judge and looked dumb. Some of them get caught doing really dangerous stuff. The judge let them go, for the most part, because he did not want to deal with explaining everything.

When I got called, he asked the cop what I did. I had used the fire station only ramp to get on Rt 50 near seven corners. The judge then yelled at me that it was the most dangerous intersection in Fairfax County. I was polite, remorseful and was wearing my best suit. He charged me the ticket fine plus court costs.

And an out of towner got a lecture and no jail time for dwi with a packed car while making an illegal u-turn and swerving across three lanes on Rt 50 near 7 corners. Yes I must be the criminal.

Yes,you remember me.

I am really depressed about this.

I don't know whether this 10 days new driver license is a good reason for me to ask mercy,or it's a good reason for judges to teach me a good lesson and give me a severe punishment.

All you can really do is take the L and pay the fine. I mean there is not much you can do about that just because you were going to pretty fast in a 25 mph zone. You go in front of the judge they will still rip one in you regardless. So you can chose that or chose to avoid it by paying up.

You might want to find out if the speed limit was legally changed from 55 to 25 (if a traffic engineering investigation was ever performed). http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/37689.html

If not the speed limit was 55.

I would suggest doing what some of the posters mentioned about improvement school. I went to one a week or so after I got a ticket. The judge saw responsibility in me, his words, and only made me pay 35 bucks plus court fees (50 bucks). Also, I said I had no excuse for what happened and felt sorry. Pretty much owning up to your own mistake is the best thing to do, rather than try and explain yourself or say you didn't do anything wrong. Most judges want to see that the person understands what they did was wrong and that is enough for them.

Good luck!!

I got a speeding ticket as well, but I was lucky.

Didn't get a reckless, and I was able to prepay.

I checked online today, and it reflected that I had paid. Do I still have to go to court?

I'll tell you what to do. Stay out of Maryland, go back to wherever you came from, and slow the hell down.

I wouldn't be worried about it.

A runner is a difficult target to hit with a laser gun.

Get together a number of statistics to show the judge. I checked the Boston marathon and the fastest runner was running about 12 mph. Even if you were wearing Nike Air's I think the judge will throw the case out.

(Ok maybe you could get up to 20 mph's on heelies, but that's still pushing it)
