Is there any limit to the number of bags we can fill up and carry out of the store?

I always just put zero into the checkout when it asks how many bags.

Am I shoplifting the bags then?

You are just screwing the store. The store has to pay the tax whether it collects it or not.

0 bags selected = 0 tax shown = 0 tax collected = 0 tax liability for store.

You think that there's someone who counts bags in the stores inventory?

Do you think Walkinshaw will propose a tax for tea-bagging next year?

Clearly most of you clowns have never run a business. The tax is reported to the Virginia Department of Tax on the same form used to collect sales tax. The Virginia Department of Tax does perform periodic audits.

You're a retard if you think they are actually keeping exact inventory of plastic shopping bags.

So if the store loses a shipment of 10,000 bags I guess they still owe $500, not.

Yeah, they take the number that's reported out of their POS system and report that. Nobody's actually counting fucking bags.

Hey dickhead, Va Dept of Taxation has nothing to do with this.

It is fairfax county and believe me, I am NOT giving them another nickel
of tax.

I am ok with cheating them.

For now, live in Chantilly 20151 close enough to Loudoun so shop there, though LC considering bag tax starting July 1. Likewise if you live close enough to Prince William. Very early this month brought tan Harris Teeter South Riding Eastgate plastic bags got legally into Greenbriar Giant self checkout (their's are white). One look of the self checkout police person, and I was good. Since then, Greenbriar Giant so out of critical stuff, another FxUg thread, not worth shopping there. Not one bag tax nickel to Fairfax, plus 1% of grocery sales tax going to Loudoun. And Youngkin has pledged to eliminate that. Loudoun politics has its issues, especially schools, but lesser of two evils compared to Fairfax.

Hoard those legally free ones while you can as not a nickel to pay for this tax. And Loudoun's new July 1 plastic bag tax supports nearly the same as Fairfax - environmental cleanup ika litterbugs, reusable bags for low income, and a cut to the retailer.

I'll be glad when stores have enough inventory to shoplift again.

Had to pay 10 cents for two plastic bags at the Leesburg Giant today. This is a ripoff and isn’t doing anything to save the environment.

Things that Penrose Giant is out of

Empty store shelves (Penrose), also unavailable from the regional distribution warehouse (ie. Peapod):

1. Peanut butter. None. At All.
2. Spring Water. Amu brand 2.5 gal.
3. ??? gave up

I was able to order everything from the full immense selection from the Tysons (I think) Wegmans and have it (and other stuff) delivered via Instacart for $10.

Instacart website is a barely functional mess though.

I used to recycle my plastic bags by dropping them off in the Giant plsstic bag recycle receptacle outside the store.

But since the bag tax went into effect, I'm keeping all of mine now.

Just remember the insistence on using platic came about over concern with paper bags and all the trees being cut down.

I had a professor in grad school who said that forestry experts had determined there are more trees in America now than when first settlers arrived

There probably are more trees in America now than when first settlers arrived.

But, they aren't old-growth harvestable timber. The tiny bradford pears planted all over NOVA are incredibly numerous, but they don't count toward useful timber for harvesting.
