What're some of your favorite street names in FFX County?
Posted by: Kt ()
Date: July 19, 2010 02:48PM

What're some of everyone's favorite street names in the Fairfax County area?

Some of mine include:

Derosnec Rd ("censored" spelled backwards -- wonder about the story behind this one)
Yellow Brick Rd (off of Colchester)
Electric Avenue (off of Cedar Lane)
Easie Street (off of Vale)
Temporary Road (near Reston Town Center -- it's been there for at least ten years)
Cobra Street (off of Mclearen)

My favorite, though: RAINBOW ROAD!!!! (off of Woodford in Vienna)

Others?

I always wanted to rock down to. And then I'd take it higher.

I have discovered two streets named after Black Sabbath song names, one was Sweet Leaf Terrace, I forget what the other one was.

Ha! Interesting! There must be a story behind that.

-Rolling Road has nice alliteration to it. It rolls off the tongue.
-Gallows Road sounds like it should lead to Dodge City in the Old West. Very ominous.
-On the other hand, the streets of the townhouse development near Oaktown High School sound like people live in Lollipop Land - Sugar Lane, Spice Court, Sweet Mint Drive...

There is a "Lover's Lane' in Vienna, but I guess so many people stole the sign back in the day, it's listed as "L's Lane" on most paper maps.

Fuck yeah, Short Ct... Everyone always used to smoke cigarettes by the dumpster, but the owner of one of the houses got pissed off and scared everybody away. Goooood times.

Barrister's Place neighborhood in Vienna and right off of Lawyers Road went overboard with the law theme; there's Deed Court, Statute Lane, Sheriff Court, Decree Court, among others.

Over on the other side of Vienna, there's Lullaby and Melody Lanes.

A friend of mine named it. He was working on the road during a summer job and they said "Matt! You name the road!"

He isn't very creative.

If by "classy" you mean "gay," you'd be correct.

Even better, the name of that road is Snickersville Turnpike. It's in Loudoun County, so still in NOVA. It's a beautiful and historic road. There will be a Civil War reenactment at the Hibbs Bridge this fall.

There's another neighborhood in Vienna off Beulah that has orchestra & instrument names; Woodwind, Trumpet, Podium, Contralto, Percussion, etc.

Another unique one is a street off Idylwood called Tire Swing Road. Guess there must have been an old tire swing hanging from a tree back there long ago.
