Bull run regional park - homeless people
Posted by: Kamper ()
Date: July 18, 2010 09:32AM

I was camped out at bull run last week and met at least 30 campers that are living there because they lost their jobs and-or homes. The park makes them change campsites every two weeks and they leave for another campground for awhile and then return.
These parks are built for recreation not for loser recession victims. I wish they would all go stay at a homeless shelter or something. Maybe we could let them use that clifton elementary school and they could remove all the asbestos to earn their keep.

Fairfax Dept. of Social Services also stores homeless people at Lake Fairfax in Reston. This will stop once one of these guys rape or kill someone on park land.

Which is worse? Homeless legal americans or illegal aliens?
Here in centreville we got both. I am starting to warm up to the Koreans, some of them are real good neighbors. They dont bother my dog but I think they will eat a cat.

I was seriously going to bring my son camping, but not if there are a lot of homeless about. I'm afraid they might try to steal our tent or our other possessions while we're sleeping! I have some nice camping gear....I'll find someplace else to go, maybe down towards Lake Anna in Fredericksburg...

You should still go to the park, they are not the bum homeless these are professional just out of luck. They probably have some good stories to tell but just got fired from corporate usa. You will probably even leave there with a lesson for your son and even offer a room in your house for them.

I can't bealive some people figure it out. I used to do that every summers while at college. I did for a while and ended up at Bull run because they do let you camp during winter. I have nice winter tents. Once I camp at the exit ramp of 66 and 29, i camp there for 2 weeks till some FX chopper found me one night.
I wish them the best of luck. I hated the spiders and the laundry facilities.
If you don't want to camp there the KOA in Fredericksburg is a retail pay to camp deal. Nice pool and a bunch of those GO Carts that you can rent.

It is like a terenchal downpour right now and I feel bad for the homeless camping in the park? Is there maybe cabins they would rent for real cheap or group together at a trailer maybe. It is a shame to be in a tent in this downpour.

I lived at Bull run a few years ago. Those people are the working homeless. It costs like 25 bucks a night to stay there so you need some sort of income to live there.

When you do the math, it seems kind of stupid, doesn't it? Why don't two or three of these people get together and split an apartment?

I had no credit history when I got my first apartment (and no co-signer). If you are willing to live in a big enough dump, you can get by without a credit search. And even a dump in NoVA has to be better than living in a fucking tent.

Exactly. You could at least rent a room in someone's house or something. However, you wouldn’t have the honor of distinguishing yourself as “homeless”, which garners more sympathy.

In Reston they have a church shelter open to everyone. And houses too that you can stay at until you get your feed on the ground. And habitat for humanity builds houses for the homeless, but I do not know what the waiting list is for one of their houses.

I can only hope that you don't lose your job one day and find yourself in the same situation; if so, let us know so we can then refer to you as "loser recession victims".

Welcome to Northern VA; you will find this in any neighborhood now a days; Fairfax, Reston, etc. All depends what you really want to or allow yourself to see. Those with the "not in my backyard" mentality, well, life is too short and some people will always view things however they want.

They have two bath houses with showers and coin laundry. It all depends on how far you camp from a bathouse, It could be as far as 250 yards. I always kept a thunderjug on hand when I was tent camping. Now that I have an RV with A/C and a flush toiliet its no problem.

BTW empty tide jugs with the pour spout removed make the best thunderjugs. Female campers should invest in a "lady J"

I'm sure that Vince, being such a kind and warm-hearted human, would be glad to let a few homeless people stay in his house, out of his own pocket.

As opposed to, say, forcing other people to pay for putting them up, right?

I used to live between Burke lake and bull run. I ended up in bull run during the winter because that was the only place you were allowed to camp in the` winter. I ended up buying a sailboat and continued a more affordable nomadic life. My budget on the boat was about 5 bucks a day. I have a house now, married with kids.
I can see how it is. I was going to college so that was different.

These people ARE making it on their own without handouts and doing so legally. So leave them alone. Oh and most people renting rooms want someone for at least a bare minimum of time and don't want couples. So options are limited. If someone is looking for work and sees this as a temporary situation, living in a campground is fine.

Well, we made it illegal not to have health insurance.

Why not just make it illegal to be poor and homeless?

Surely that will make these people go away so you won't have to look at them. Laws always fix things.

You ever been homeless, scumbag? It is a very humbling experience.
And any home without any real love with loved ones in it is no real home either.
Many people lost from small to large fortunes over the last ten years or so.
The government and failing businesses going into bankruptcy work hand in hand to screw over the investors. Nothing less than criminal theft.
So an investor gets ripped off, ends up homeless and then has to put up with a piece of shit like u criticizing them? Your lucky one or more of them does not go off on you, kick your punk ass to death. Shoot you in all four limbs, let you bleed and suffer in pain for awhile then put a bullet in your brain and kill you.
Public property is public property and belongs to no one. Constitution and Bill of Rights, bud. Homeless camping is nothing less than protesting.
If you have a problem with this, then illegal immigration and the illegal hiring of the illegals should be at the top of your unhappy list. Far above a homelessness issue, anywhere.
