i guess i didn't know that Stone Bridge was playing a backup @ QB # their #1 lineman was out for this game.. i'd say it wasn't as bad as it could have been given their current injuries. Still, doubt they'll beat Highland Springs!

More telling is how bad Madison & Centreville are that they couldn't beat Stone Bridge!

Westfield beats Marshall 16-14, Marshall missed field goal, and without there RB1.Marshall lacks depth but has some great players.
WestField will have a tough year,

Westfield is sooooo awful. Wretched. How did that happen so fast. Not long ago they would’ve put 42 by half time on this Marshall team. They have a severe lack of talent which is surprising from a school that size. I can’t recall a team taht was that dominant and the just absolutely stink. Almost sad.

It seems to me that Westfield had a couple of head Coaches leave, right? AND some people on FFU predicted the beginning of the end at that time. However, Westfield was also using technology at a high level that other schools didn't know about OR they couldn't afford. Remember the days when Westfield had monitors & tablets on the field to give their players & coaches almost live overhead formations & tendencies of their opponents!!? Was this technology outlawed because it's gone as far as I can tell?

But mostly, I think the demographics are catching up to Westfield. AND despite the denyers, kids & their families aren't moving into Westfield's neighborhoods to play for Simmons anymore. Their feeder programs weren't getting enough out of their relationship with him. So, they moved on. Battlefield & Freedom are direct beneficiaries and they're stepping up.

So, it comes down to connections & the under-the-table politics of HS sports. Those feeder program coaches & trainers dictate which coach & team gets fed the the top players! Simmons used up all his opportunities & just isn't providing enough grift $$$ to those guys anymore! Just follow the money: It's that simple.

You nailed it, indeed it is demographics catching up to WF. All of the talent is moving 10 miles west into LoCo.

There is some truth here but coaching is not the issue. They have 4 former head coaches on staff right now - arguably the best staff in the state. Also the technology bling is over-rated (and still there).

What is true is that it boils down to talent and athletic ability. Doesn't matter if how well you know how to play if you are small, slow and not very athletic. Feeder program connections. That's a part of it also.

So many coaches in Fairfax County are horrible. No school with over 2,000 kids should be getting beat by 50+ points.

Had nothing to go with money, clown take. This is not TX or FL. No one is filing out cash for a kid to play anywhere. Talent well at Westfield has run dry plain & simple. Got to have some Jimmys & Joes for it to work, not all just X’s & O’s

You don't get it.. This is the same issue in all top teir sports. The trainers have their indoor facilities to pay for that $$$ comes from somewhere & the kids families' pay only a portion of that $$$$. The rest is coming from other sources. the head coaches that know how to connect those dots reap the rewards by getting & keeping the area's top talent! It doesn't matter if it's soccer, basketball or football. The trainers & handlers of the top athletes dictate the success of the coaches THEY choose to work with.

It's simple, Simmons HAD those connections but most of them left when the $$$ dried up. those guys are on to the next opportunity. So, no new talent is comming. y'all didn't think he was some magical force that just got lucky having good players in his school district, right?

I agree fairfax coaches aren't that good, but we can't ignore oakton coaches especially I have heard from a lot of kids at Oakton high School. that Coach Hoskins their DB coach is really good. i've heard he is the best DB coach in the concorde and the way he motivates kid is great. he can be a dick sometimes but its for the kids growth. Oakton is luck to have coach hoskins as their DB coach. the way he hypes them up and the way he coaches them is NCAA level. oakton has an NCAA level DB coach and they are really lucky

Rough week for yours truly...

1. Colonial Forge (-6) @ West Potomac
- Forge won and covered, 35-14.

2. Chantilly (-17) @ Washington-Lee
- Chantilly won 17-10, failing to cover. I'm not sold on the Chargers yet...

3. Edison (-8) @ McLean
- Edison won 14-6, nailed this one!

4. Falls Church @ Hayfield (-3)
- Hayfield rolled 48-13. Brilliant call going with the squib kick to start the game. Hayfield recovered and that was the beginning of the end. Their first play on offense was a 60 yard TD pass. The National District is BAD.

5. Herndon @ South Lakes (-35)
- SL won 22-14, down year for the Seahawks it seems.

6. Lee @ Annandale (-3)
- The Atoms blanked Lee 28-0.

7. Madison (-14) @ Yorktown
- Big win for Yorktown, 14-11. Time to reassess the Warhawks.

8. Mount Vernon @ Centreville (-28)
- 63-7 Centreville. I thought MV would've shown at least some fight and some heart.

9. North Stafford @ Lake Braddock (-10)
- Had my dates mixed up... See next weeks spreads.

10.Oakton @ Langley (-10)
- Langley won 21-14, failing to cover.

11. Stone Bridge (-3) @ Freedom-Woodbridge
- Game of the week indeed. Freedom won 36-13, but it is worth noting SB was playing their 2nd string QB. Regardless, Freedom is legit. SB's 26 game winning streak is gone and to be frank, I don't see them beating HSHS or Maury. Mickey's offensive formations made no sense against a team full of athletes but I digress.

12. Stuart @ Robinson (-40)
- Rams roll, 65-7.

13. Wakefield (-3) @ Woodson
- I'm never picking Wakefield again. Henderson had his troop ready for war. He's very familiar with Wakefield so I can't say I am surprised. Cavs won 37-7.

14. Westfield (-21) @ Marshall
- Wow. Wow. Wow. Westfield has fallen off big time. It was 2-0 at halftime, and quite frankly, WF is lucky to get out of Tysons with a win. They have much to improve on.

I feel as if I had a bad week last week with my spreads so I am aiming to improve this week.

1. Annandale @ Edison (-7)
- I hope the Atoms enjoyed their win over the JV Lancers.

2. Langley (-8) @ George Mason
- You can definitely make the argument the spread should be higher here, but I will stay conservative.

3. Marshall (-7) @ Hayfield
- I can see this one going either way. Marshall won by 3 last year; but given how they played WF I am giving them the advantage. Don’t be surprised if Hayfield wins.

4. McLean @ Fairfax (-35)
- Over by halftime. McLean just lost to Edison.

5. Mount Vernon (-30) @ Lee
- When will the Lancers score a TD? I feel bad for those kids in all honesty.

6. North Stafford @ Lake Braddock (-17)
- Had my dates confused last week. Giving the Bruins an extra 7 given how NS has underperformed.

7. Osbourn Park (-10) @ Herndon
- Next…

8. Robinson (-21) @ Chantilly
- Co-game of the week due to lack of very many completive games. The Rams should roll via the ground game.

9. South County (-17) @ Westfield
- Game of the week. Simmons & co. have a chance to redeem themselves following a horrendous performance against Marshall. That being said, South County is too much.

10. Stone Bridge (-8) @ Colonial Forge
- Intriguing game. A chance for Mickey to redeem himself. (Advice: that 2 RB set you ran against Freedom sucked.) Forge is not a cupcake, but the Bulldogs are the better team.

11. T.C. Williams (-35) @ Stuart
- Running clock in the 2nd half.

12. Wakefield @ Centreville (-49)
- The Warriors are walking into a slaughter.

13. Washington-Lee @ West Springfield (-10)
- Toss up in a sense, but make no mistake, the Spartans are the better team and I expect them to cover.

14. Woodson (-14) @ Falls Church
- Woodson beats up on another inferior opponent.

15. Yorktown (-22) @ Oakton
- Very impressive win against the Warhawks. Oakton is much worse than Madison. Yorktown wins big.

How I did with my picks against the spread.

Correctly picked South Lakes to win, but I incorrectly thought they would cover. Herndon is bad, but they must have gotten up for a rivalry game.

Correctly picked Woodson to win and cover. I still don't think there are many wins this season for Woodson, though.

Correctly picked Westfield to win, and also correctly picked them not to cover.

I underestimated Edison last week. I won't do that again. Edison wins and covers.

Langley wins and covers.

I agree this one is a tough one. I'm going to take Hayfield to win outright.

Last year, I thought McLean was the toughest opponent on Fairfax's fairly soft out of conference schedule. McLean seems to have regressed from last year. I'll take Fairfax to win and cover.

Mt. Vernon wins and covers.

Lake Braddock wins and covers (thereby making their insufferable fans even more insufferable).

I think Osbourn Park is the bottom feeder of PWC football. Given how Herndon showed against South Lakes, I'll take Herdon to win outright.

I'm a bit off the Chantilly bandwagon I was on earlier this season. I think Robo wins, but I don't think they will cover.

Given how bad Westfield has performed, I'm not sure this deserves Game of the week honors. I'll take South County to win and cover.

With fingers crossed, I'll take Stone Bridge to win and cover.

TCW wins, but my hunch is that they don't cover.

No pick with a >35 point spread.

I can see keeping the spread low here, given Washington-Lee's performance against Chantilly and Westfield, but I'm not quite sold, and West Springfield is pretty good. I'll take West Springfield to win and cover.

As I said last week, a blind squirrel occasionally finds and acorn, and a bad football team occasionally finds a win. Woodson plays the blind squirrel again this week and beats Falls Church, for their penultimate win this season. I also think they'll cover.

I cant' figure either of these teams out. Given this, I'll take Yorktown to win, but not cover.

Madison needs to bounce back in a big way vs Langley. Langley beat Yorktown but styles make fights. Bet Madison rolls them.

Madison’s time is catching up to them, with an AD like John Kenny, it was bound to catch up sooner or later - he has no idea what he’s doing, in the five years he’s been there, no coach he has hired, (not inherited) has stayed past one season - no idea how he got the job with NO previous high school coaching or athletic experience. If Madison sports are doing poorly, it’s because of him. 0-3?! That’s laughable but predict the Warhawks to continue to do badly under John Kenny, the laziest AD ever.

madison will be fine. they've played good competition and have been right there at the end. once they get their confidence back they'll be a 2/3 seed behind centreville and possibly yorktown.

No, JoeBall, their done. when you get crushed in the State Finals & only claim the moral victory of community togetherness THEN accuse your opponents of cheating based on pass plays when your team gave up nearly 400 yards rushing, you've signaled to your competition how weak you really were. Senior laden teams can only reload when your foundation is set in place. Obviously, it isn't . now you're 0-4 & looking at the bottom of the concord district. What teams do you think you can beat?

Concorde rankings
1: Centreville 2-1
As of now I have centreville at the top but conference play starts in 2-3 so things will definitely change. That being said the Concorde is centrevilles to loose at the moment they have proved they know how to win and put up a good fight against stone bridge. Fair SOS so far

2: Chantilly 2-0
Only undefeated left in the Concorde big loss with the ND all American. Chantilly returns a strong unit. Weak SOS so far

3: Oakton 2-1
Strange loss to Langley a lot of hype for the cougars but that always has seemed to end come conference play for coach Morgan. Will he change that this year? Slightly below average SOS so far

4A. South lakes 1-2
Putting them at 4 due to 2 close losses against formidable opponents. However great teams find a win to win. A lot of potential at south lakes. Good SOS so far

4B. Madison 0-3
When was the last time madison started 0-3? Must be atleast 6 years probably more. Came down to the last play against two great teams then loose it at the end to Yorktown. Has been the surprise thus far the defending back to back conference champs like south lakes need to find a way to win the talent is there but will they get it together? Minus SB has had the toughest first 3 games in northern VA

5. Westfield 2-1
They have a weak SOS. The era is over simmions and his coaching staff are the only reason this team has one any games. They will need to see major improvement on both sides of the ball to host a playoff game and not get bounced in the first round.

I’d put Oakton dead last, and SL 2nd to last… which is weird to say

I don't know where you are getting your SOS opinions from. FWIW, Calpreps ranks the Concorde SOS for the first 3 games as below. Based on my cursory observations that seems reasonably accurate to me.

1. Madison
2. Centreville
3. Westfield
4. South Lakes
5. Chantilly
6. Oakton

I'd take it easy on our friend from Woodson. He's just trying out jokes for his promising career in stand up comedy. That was a funny one though.

Someone earlier in this thread agreed with our prognosticator that Woodson would win this game, for its "penultimate" win of the year. I'm not sure that those of us who have Woodson educations know what the word "penultimate" means, so I'll help them out. According to our friends at Merriam-Webster, penultimate means "next to last." So this means that last night's Woodson win was their next to last win for this season, meaning they will only win one more game. Looking at their schedule, I'd say he's right. They have Lee/Lewis next week, which is an easy win, followed by Centreville, who will destroy them. Then they play their Patriot schedule, and looking at that schedule, there isn't a single win to be found there. So I hope our Woodson fan enjoys last night's win, because they only have one more on the schedule.

Final was 31-20. Westfield gave up 3 TDs in the 4th. That game was a playoff level coaching masterpiece. SoCo clearly had the better athletes all over the field but Simmons & Co had some wizardry going on there... playing your strengths and staying away from theirs. I wouldn't bet on the same result again but it is what it is.

If youth kids can understand not to score again if winning by 42 so the coach doesn’t get suspended the next game I think HS kids and coach’s can do same thing too. Not rocket science genius. It’s called sportsmanship. You clueless fuck. & Fuck Shields.

Westfield looks to TRYING to return to their winning formula. Run 1st game makes sensw for them. The problem is that their Defense is worse than most any other team on Northern VA..

This might be their LAST chance for them or any other 6C/D team to win a State Title for decades to come!

Battlefield, Freedom, Smith and next year Highland Springs will continue to dominate any Northern VA team. My little bird is telling me Smith is vulnerable this year. Too bad for Madison, I think they missed their best opportunity by a year!!

Idk what Westfield team you’ve been watching but their defense is a lot better than their offense. They only scored twice on Marshall who just gave up 40 to hayfield

Lewis is technically a Class 5 school since they have only 1700 students while every other school in the area is a true Class 6. Coincidentally MVHS might just barely also qualify as technically Class 5, although they are literally right on the cusp of Class 6 which is 1950 students. Unfortunately for Lewis's record they play neighboring schools with hundreds and in some cases nearly 1000 more students than they have. West Springfield has 2600 students. Chantilly has over 2900... It's no wonder Lewis sports can't compete. Any wins that Lewis sports are able to earn is actually extremely impressive considering their size.

Lewis would lose handily to many 2A schools. Their problem is not the size of the school, it's that the school and community are in a downward spiral. There is nothing even close to a winning culture or community support at the school. It is sad to see any Fairfax County school in such a pitiful situation. Last night's home crowd was almost non-existent - the type of crowd you would see at a youth league game.

If anything, the school should be closed and the 1,700 students should be disbursed to neighboring schools - Edison, Hayfield, South County, West Springfield, Annandale.

That would never happen, while the 50 teachers could transfer, there would be no jobs for the 500 admin personnel.

What do you expect with a bunch of spics and rugs who don’t know how to play football? Lewis/Lee was very good back in 2009, up until 2012. They suck now. Should play Wake, TJ, and other sorry teams from outta the area no cap. If #3 is named Abdul Hakim-Hassan… you won’t win many games.

Abdul Bin Liden won’t win Lee/Lewis/Afghanistan many games, and he wears #3? Lol yeah the Afghan Lancers will go 0-10

1. Annandale @ Edison (-7)
- Edison won and covered, 28-13. The Eagles are quietly 3-1.

2. Langley (-8) @ George Mason
- Langley won big, 48-13.

3. Marshall (-7) @ Hayfield
- Got this one wrong. Hayfield won 38-35 as Marshall missed the game tying FG as time expired.

4. McLean @ Fairfax (-35)
- It indeed was over by halftime. Fairfax was victorious 45-0.

5. Mount Vernon (-30) @ Lee
- MV won 50-9. According to another user, it was 50-0 at halftime. Yikes.

6. North Stafford @ Lake Braddock (-17)
- I raised the spread and Braddock still covered, 48-8. The Bruins look like the real deal this year.

7. Osbourn Park (-10) @ Herndon
- Herndon won 48-0, I can't believe it. Wow. OP must be very, very, very bad. TJ and Lee should get them on the schedule next year.

8. Robinson (-21) @ Chantilly
- Robinson won 35-24, failing to cover but Scott Vossler's Rams are 4-0.

9. South County (-17) @ Westfield
- Completely blew this one, Westfield won 31-20, are we ready to say the Bulldogs are back? Huge win for Simmons & co.

10. Stone Bridge (-8) @ Colonial Forge
- Stone Bridge won 20-14, just missing the cover by 2 points.

11. T.C. Williams (-35) @ Stuart
- T.C. blanked JEB 35-0, nailed this one!

12. Wakefield @ Centreville (-49)
- "The Warriors are walking into a slaughter." True, but I didn't realize they would lose 81-7. My goodness. That might be worse than when T.C. beat Wakefield 73-0 in 2012 and didn't even score in the 4th!

13. Washington-Lee @ West Springfield (-10)
- WS won 28-21, failing to cover.

14. Woodson (-14) @ Falls Church
- Woodson won and covered, 31-13. FC is not good this year.

15. Yorktown (-22) @ Oakton
- Yorktown won big, 49-7.

Week 4 already! Football season is flying by! Here we go...

1. Annandale @ Lake Braddock (-45)
- Bruins roll on homecoming.

2. Chantilly (-20) @ Marshall
- Another tune-up for the Chargers before Concorde play.

3. Edison @ Robinson (-30)
- Edison is quietly 3-1 but unfortunately the Rams will be too much for the Eagles to handle.

4. Falls Church @ Fairfax (-42)
- Running clock in the 2nd half. Wish the Rebels would’ve scheduled tougher out of district competition.

5. Hayfield @ West Springfield (-17)
- Don’t vision Hayfield’s defense being able to stop the Spartan’s offense.

6.Langley @ Madison (-10)
- I’m sure a lot of eyes will be on this one. The Warhawks had 2 weeks to prepare with this one so I think they will prevail victorious.

7. Lee @ Woodson (-21)
- Lee sucks. No way around it. Enjoy the easy win, Henderson & co.

8.South County (-42) @ Stuart
- Another game with a running clock in the 2nd half. Stallions will come out pissed after losing to Westfield last week.

9. South Lakes (-28) @ McLean
- The Seahawks aren’t as strong as they’ve been in recent years but the Highlanders are not very good. SL wins big.

10. Stone Bridge (-35) @ Riverside
- Mickey will finally get a chance to run the score up.

11. T.C. Williams (-21) @ Herndon
- Herndon surprised me last week with a 48-0 win, they also played South Lakes close but I think the Titans are too big and athletic for Herndon.

12. Washington-Lee (-21) @ Wakefield
- Stayed conservative with this spread, but after what I saw last week from Wakefield I wanted to make it higher. Generals win big.

13. West Potomac (-7) @ Mount Vernon
- Co-Game of the week, the classic Battle of the Highway. I could see this one going either way but I’m picking the Wolverines on the road.

14. Westfield (-7) @ Yorktown
- Game of the week. 2 teams that seem to have gotten it together. This should be a great game. I would not be surprised to see WF still riding the high from beating SoCo and lose, but I think Simmons gets his kids right and they win on the road.

I have been scouting football teams & players in nova for quite some time and I have yet to see anything come out of oakton highshool. I know for a fact they have the facilities for a competitive team in the concord dirstict but the coaching is horrendus. They haven't had a winning season in years and the playoffs haven't even been an option. Somebody should see what is going on over at oakton high because it has been consecutive years of the same outcome.
