aruably Russia's border post WWII, perhaps arguably today
WWII Allies cut up the map. UK for some reason gained 0 land. Russia for some reason was given allot of land (today politically problematic since mineral resources are on them and there is "a land crunch"). The allies i beleive didn't think things through well.
USSR, RUSSIA, WENT COMMUNIST - and began a post-war cold war build up but also an industrialization of Russia (for common goods, fuel for cooking, metal mining, and so on).
PERHAPS UNWISELY, ussr built allot of it on the outer borders (to protect it's borders cold war - and for proximity of imports / exports)
INCLUDED IN THE BORDER BUILD-UP - NUCLEAR MISSILES. One of the countries with many nuclear missles threatened to use them aginst russia to succeede (obviously greedy - russian taxpayers had made the area rich with tax funding then the area wanted to "immediately succeede" with ALL THE USSR GOODS). It was painful for russia to correct the situation. They had to do so while their economy was collapsing. Very painful
