Local Diners?
Posted by: diner? ()

Anyone know any decent local diners that are open really late? Old classic american type? In the DMV area? I know of Amphora and Maliks, but they arn't really diners. Amphora being very close to one though.

Thanks

It's not FFX but Jack's on Lee Street in Old Town is a really small breakfast/lunch place with a diner feel and good food. Agree, with the prior post about 29 Diner - it has the look but the food disappoints.

Not technically a diner (it's in a strip mall), but The Virginian in Vienna is a pretty decent hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon "diner". You can sit at the old-school counter and enjoy a big cheap breakfast alongside all the locals who frequent the place. They sorta upgraded the interior a few years ago (sadly, they no longer have the giant wooden fork and spoon hanging on the wall), but the atmosphere is still about as unpretentious and straight-forward as a place can get.

Lunch items can be sorta hit-or-miss, but you can't go wrong with their omelets and homefries. The people who work there are very nice, too.

How about the amphora location in Herndon? Its supposedly a full blown diner with the chrome and all? Anyone been there?

The Amphora in Herndon does have all the chrome stuff, but I personally think the place sucks. Bad service, food takes forever to come out, and when it does the food tastes like crap. Haven't been there in a couple years, so maybe it's changed.

If you want a laugh, go there anytime between 12am-2am. All there is in there are either younger kids not old enough to drink and drunks who just left the bars.

In all this years of scanning and taking pictures of stupid shit that is hapening at all hr of the night, the two above mention are the best.
There is another dinner in 7 cornes where la luna used to be. It is across the street from UNos. They have a russian or some sort of eastern european server. She is hot. Coffe is refill all the time. food is exelent in all those 3 places.

The UNOs in Seven Corners has been the Dogfish Head Alehouse for about 3-4 years now. Right in the parking lot of the old Seven Corners mall on the Rt. 7 side, in front of what is now a Shopper's Food Warehouse, and across Rt. 7 from Lord & Taylor/Sears. UNOs closed down 1 or 2 years before Dogfish Head moved in, so it has been out of commission for around 4-5 years, at least.

The diner being referred to is probably Brinkley's, which is on Rt. 7 across from the west end of the mall, or, based on the poster's dated rememberances of that area, there was a diner type place that used to be in what was previously a Pizza Hut at the west end of the Seven Corners mall, but the diner was a vegetarian restaurant, last time I checked. I do not remember a place called La Luna in that area.

i'd stick with the Amphora for northern virginia "diners" - can't beat 24 x 7 and a wide variety of food, breakfast food around the clock. staff is usually very nice and the environment is comfortable.

The one in Vienna is excellent. I haven't been to this Herndon location that people complain about.

I have eaten there many times, and it's pretty good (for the Washington metro area). But it's not open late or anything.

There's also the Metro 29 in Arlington (no relation to the 29 Tastee in Fairfax), which is better than most listed so far and has better hours. FOOD Network's Diner's Driver-Ins and Dives filmed there recently.

sometimes my BF takes me to a diner after we go to a concert. we usually end up making out in the booth while we are waiting for our food.

Metro 29 has good food and an extensive menu, but I've always found it to be over-priced. I like the place but it seems like I'm shelling out 20-25 bucks every time I go in there- those aren't diner prices, IMO.

My roids are flaring up again. They don't serve spicy food there do they? My roids don't like spicy. Makes 'em burn like Mexican hotsauce on a roasted marshmallow.
