VDOT wasting more money

So the good folks up at VDOT decided to install 2 pairs of signs on Rt 29 and Braddock road at their respective intersections with Clifton road. These 4 new signs simply say Clifton and have an arrow pointing toward clifton road.

Now of course these helpful signs are installed directly after the signs that say Clifton Road Next Signal

Why do we need these? Is it not obvious that Clifton Road goes to Clifton? Who cares where Clifton is anyway? Why would anyone want to go to Clifton?
(inb4 Clifton ES closing fuckers)

Of course these signs probably cost 500 bucks each along with the 10 man crew in 5 trucks required to install them.

Because most of the people here are too stupid to realize it.

Thank God for VDOT. I had no clue Clifton Road went to Clifton! Even if I had, how would I have known which way to go on Clifton road?

Thank you VDOT, now I can finally find Trummers on Main!

My favorite is the 30-40 foot long bike lane on Hunter Mill at 123.

It connects to nothing.

VDOT sucks, because they could care less about NoVa. Our roadway lines are the worst, and in some places they don't even exist (Even on the heavily traveled Toll Road, and the GW Pkwy.).

I also hate when they place jersey walls right up against the lines on both sides of the road, and you have to travel over the middle line. I first encountered that garbage in North Jersey, but now it has finally appeared around here.

Btw, how many people on here can recall seeing that orbit launching runway of an overpass just South of Richmond, on I-95? That was built with our money, and for what? Who the hell uses that thing? They could have built that ramp half the height it currently is, and subsequently saved a ton of money in the process, but no, some dumbass decided to install a NASA flyway.

That is called the Pocahontas Parkway bridge, and every time I see it it makes me angry. It's built that high so that ships can go up the james river to the port of Richmond which is 1 mile upstream. The whole road was built to allow motorists to get from Southern Richmond to the Richmond Airport. Even though there is no demand for it, they built a 3 lanes expressway. The bridge cost about 150 million I think. Once it was built, not enough people used it and even with the 6 dollar toll it wasnt making any money (surprise)

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/local-opinions/2010/06/can_public-private_be_a_panace.html

"The Pocahontas Parkway, for instance, was built not to address congestion but to facilitate sprawl eastward into farmland areas that politicians and developers wanted access to. When the Parkway was built,so few motorists used it that toll revenue didn't reach needed levels. It almost went bust. That would have hurt Virginia's pristine Triple-A credit rating, so then-Gov. Mark Warner scrambled to find a fix by turning things over to an Australian manager.

PPTA can boost transportation -- but only if the planning makes sense."
