Best places to hear live music in Fairfax?

What are some great music venues in Fairfax? What are your favorite?

Think of alternative venues as well, that aren't the usual bar/hole in the wall type places.

My first guess would be anywhere you (oops, I mean Meade Skelton) aren't allowed to play.

But isn't there a monthly live rock show in Herndon where they have all the Jazz festivals and such? I have been to a few of those and have enjoyed them.

While technically not in FFX County. Herndon Rocks is free and you can take the kids. They also sell beer and food. http://www.herndonrocks.com/html/bands.html

Wolftrap festivals are great. http://www.wolftrap.org/

The park authority has some great folk stuff - http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/performances/

Oh, I second the State Theater! Great place.

Jammin' Java is a bit too white bread and yuppy for my tastes.
