Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Has there ever been a riot in fairfax or a near riot in fairfax. I was reading about Oakland and their fears of rioting today and I was wondering if there had ever been a incident like this in our area.
don't have direct knowledge, but there was a summer of civil unrest on the south side of Herndon in the 70's. State Police maintained a visible presense to augment the Andy and Barney sized HPD of the day. Anybody have more complete info?
These days we need to watch out for the silver haired WASPs coming out of FFX Contry Club armed with their nine irons and hell bent for Pennsylvania Ave.
The only riot I can imagine, would be one started by hispanics. I'm not even sure that we have enough of a black population, for there to be a serious burning down of our neighborhoods. We have enough liberals around here though, but I don't see many Berkeley leftist whackos in Ffx.
Btw, people who riot in the U.S. are really at the bottom of the idiot pile. All they ever do is harm their own neighborhoods, and ruin hard working peoples shops. Rioters should be shot.

LULZ hard to compare Oakland with the mean streets of Fairfax, VA
There used to be, or it is still there, the Commonwealth Women's Clinic on Broad Street in Falls Church. It was an abortion clinic and there used to be some good demos down there. Nothing violent, but you could not have paid for the entertainment.

I would call what happened in Herndon in the 70's a riot because the Dulles shopping center was looted and burned. There were also many cars burned, beatings and fire bombings.
The riot in Herndon was centered around Dulles Park Shopping Center. It started with a white Fairfax cop killing an unarmed black guy after a struggle. I plan to write more about it soon on my blog:
