wild storms tonight!

Wow! Wild thunder/lighning storms tonight!

I can't recall the last time we had someting like this in the area, complete with the "smell of summer rain."

We were out shopping and while driving from store to store, the light show was amazing. Great way to kick off the season.

No thunder here in Tysons this evening, and it barely rained. But my patio faces south-east and there were a lot of big flashes down that way, really high up in the sky. I love these hot summer storms.

it was pretty badass. what i could see going down 29 was in the c-ville area around 9:00 and ffx/annandale around 10:30

You know, I can recall storms of this magnatude or better, back in the afternoon's of the 1980's. The sky would darken and it would rain hard for about an hour, then you could "follow" the sound of the storm off to the east. These storms would put down enough water to get close to the top of curb gutters - It just does not seem like it rains like this anymore.

Or maybe I was just remembering it the way I want to?

Anyways, today is about as perfect of a day as one could ask for! Enjoy.
