For me, it's a company-wide holiday so why not take the day off? I guess it's apparently a day to celebrate DC blacks getting freed from slavery somehow. We should probably call it "Nigerian Teaching Day" or "Jamaican Teaching Day" or something similar to highlight the fact that African-Americans just don't keep up with the rest of society. People with brown (or black) skin from other countries or regions do quite well for themselves in Fairfax County, while the people who insist on calling themselves "Black" get nowhere here or anywhere else. People need to stop using skin color as a crutch.

It has nothing to do with the blacks in DC being freed from slavery. The slaves in D.C. were freed by an act of Congress signed by Lincoln in April of 1862, which is why D.C. celebrates Emancipation Day. BTW the DC slave emancipation was probably the only compensated slave emancipation in the U.S.

It is. It's a holiday so black people can hate white people. They are doing this to avoid work and attempt to shame white ppl for slavery.
