What is this building on Bennett Rd?
Date: June 23, 2010 06:25PM

What is this money building on Bennett Road near the corner of West Ox Road in Oakton, rickies? It has no windows but has a big chimney-looking thing and a hurting crumbling concrete driveway/parking lot for yer boyz. It also has tennis courts. I saw one of the doors open once but coudn't make out what's inside, it was such a show. It also has an unused flagpole.

Thanks ricky for helping solve this hurting mystery.

Borgata, Borgata, Borgata. Money.

What's a ricky? Does Borgata taste like Bologna? Perhaps with this information at our fingertips, we could solve the Mystery of Bennett Road. BRB, getting the Mystery Machine fired up...

Interesting. I just pulled the property records and it's owned by the Board of Supervisors now, which usually means they're going to make it a historic landmark or something.

It's use to be the Vale Volunteer Fire Dept building. The fire department has since been moved down by Fox Mill Shopping Center in Reston off the Reston Parkway.

SomeGuy is right. It is currently used as a storage facility for baseball and football equipment for CYA. Among members of the Association it is colloquially known as "the shed."

WOW!!
Thanks rickies!!
I guessed an old hurting school building, but the flagpole and chimney thing really does say "old hurting fire department."

The tennis courts are used regularly. To think this was a firefighters' money metal house!

This is so money. Borgata.

It was the old Navy Vale firehouse but it moved to the Fair Oaks area and became Fair Oaks Volunteer firehouse #421. #431 at Fox Mill Road and Reston Parkway had/has nothing to do with the old Navy Vale firehouse.

Why is this area called "Navy" anyway?

I was a volunteer fireman at this fire house on Bennett Rd. I actually lived there for 2 years. It was Fx. Co. Fire Department Station #21 and called the "Navy-Vale Volunteer Department" Navy is/was a small town located off West Ox. Rd. near the fire house, and Vale was another small town near Foxmill Rd. and Vale Rd. I have alot of very found and tragic memories of when I was there 76-80.

We are looking at a house on Betsy Lane off of Bennett just past this old firehouse. Betsy Lane is adjacent to a local park, Garchayne Park, but I can't find anything about the park, what facilities it has, or even where the entrance is (I just see it on Google Maps). Does anyone know? And is there a chance that a parcel like this might be developed at some point down the road? Thanks!

This is an old post but I was a volunteer at the station back in 1981. It's designation was station 21 and was moved to route 50 (not Reston) around 1989 or there abouts.
It's correct name was the Navy Vale Volunteer Fire Department.
If you Google navy vale volunteer fire department you will find a few items including a YouTube video of mine which was a training session from 1981 titled 1981 Extrication Training, Navy Vale VFD

Or you could post links to said items instead of expecting everyone to go google it.

Ah, that's the old Arthur Treacher's over off West Ox Rd. It closed down in the 90's, I think. Right around the time Penguin Feather and the Burger Chef closed down over in Annandale.

All I know is we use to jump cars on the hump of Bennet road. We could get airborne for about 10 feet.

What's that thing with the solar panel on that hump? Also, why is the road so wide there for no apparent reason?
