I heard callers ask about Mike & Don said they could never be as great as they were, so time to go diff ways. Seemed to me he again was taking the gentlemanly thing, towing a little fake respect for Mike. No one was clamoring for Mike, either.

It was all right, but it's very different. He's all by himself pretty much the whole time. He was just taking call after call. I'm listening now to what I didn't hear after I left work, actually.

As good as Donnie G is, he probably still needs someone to play off of. Just not Mike, Robb or Buzz.

it's not a sports show, is it (since he's on a sports station, right)?

Ron & Fez really aren't doing it for me anymore. Maybe I'll give Don a chance. As long as it's not sports talk.

I miss The Hideout.

Since Mike's drunken egotistical rude behavior towards myself and my girlfriend at Backyard Bar and Grill I have no reason to listen to his show and encourage others to do the same.

Mike needs to control his drinking in my opinion.

Why isn't anyone here happy with any radio show? (I mean on FFX Underground, not this thread) It doesn't matter if it's TMOS, Don and Mike, BOAD, Chad & Lavar, the Rodkast, etc.. You listen to the shows and then shit on them. I understand if you listen once and hate it, but to keep listening and bitch just seems idiotic. I hate onions, so you know what? I don't eat anything with onions anymore, no more questions.

I don't think anyone's hating on Don's show yet, but it is certainly different than the old D&M Show, and it will take some getting used to, or it will turn out to not be good and we'll either stop listening or start making fun of it. I don't think we jumped on the MOS sucks bandwagon right away either, but that eventual downfall was fascinating to watch. Somehow I don't think Don will go out like that. Then again, if the ratings are as terrible as they say they are, and he manages to improve them he'll probably be kept on even if the show turns out to be mediocre. It is kind of odd to have a non-sports-talk show on an all-sports-talk station. I wonder if CBS is having second thoughts about all these switches they did.

A couple of observations of Donnie's new show:

I don't know from radio, but Donnie G. sure knows a good drop. That man makes Robb's audio vault look like a Regis interview soundboard.

Here's a question: If Don was to get a partner on his new show, who should it be? What type of radio personality? More or less like Mike?

The general format, drops, and jingles of his new show are very similiar to the Don & Mike show, showing how little input Mike actually had in the structure of the old show.

Don needs to move out to Sac Town really quick. He's talking to abd about his dog Oscar (just a coincidence)... talking to his wife...in his house...probably from a coach...not good.

what's the verdict? I'm going to go way out on a limb and say, so far, it's worse than the Mike O'Meara Show. I'll tell you why: at least MOMS had a group of people on air that we all knew and were familiar with, and (kind of) had chemistry. The Don Geronimo show, in comparison, sounds very, very LONELY to me. It's basically just Don sitting in a room talking by himself, and it's kind of sad to me. Also not a fan of the lady sidekick they've paired him up with....radio ladies are all the same...they even sound the same....really, really lame. Women need to stay off the radio.

I say just the opposite of most of you: this new show makes me appreciate Mike more, not less. He (and the rest of the gang) is sorely missed. It's like mashed potatoes without gravy. Ice cream without sprinkles. Toast without butter. Eggs without bacon. Just kind of.......sad.

I think Don has alot of talent, but the all alone taking calls format needs some work,,,

We were all expecting Don to come back and be as entertaining as the old D&M show

Expectations may have been to high,,,,

He badly needs more "characters" involved,,,I don't think the callers are going
to be able to float the boat

Bottom line,,,,neither Don or Mike alone can or ever will be as great as they were together

You can throw an ass-load of idiots with “chemistry” together in a room, they still won’t be funny. Don Geronimo knows funny! He’s a little rough around the edges from his hiatus but who wouldn’t be? He will eventually incorporate some new air talent once he makes the move to Sacktown. His current show reminds me of his PGC days. Remember Don’s version of “boogie check”? Just wait ‘till this new show picks up some momentum, he’ll steamroll over anything in his daypart.

I am not worried about Don and his ability to pick up a sidekick. If you look at everyone on the D&M show, they were all picked by Don. Mike, Buzz, Rob, Tom, Dennis - all of them were brought to the show by Don.

It is also nice to hear someone who isn't afraid of taking a phone call and actually involves the audience.

I find it funny that he doesn't ever get phone calls from people that think the show sucks, but people that said the show sucked were flooding his text messages, so no he's not reading anymore.

I get the whole all sports station thing is in decline, but this kind of boring format has been dead since Carolla's show was axed.

I've been trying to give Don the benefit of the doubt, but his show is damn near impossible to listen to. The most irritating thing is how he starts each show with some long-ass stupid soundbite from some movie or something. Those soundbites are not funny and they are way too long. By the time the soundbite ends, I've moved on. I want his show to succeed, but its just not working for me right now.

Don's a relic...same bits/takes/jokes/format...too juvenile...the show is lazy, there is no substance...the caller's suck, the support staff sucks...Don digresses every other sentence making him hard to follow...he acts like an ass at very possible moment and thinks it's cute...it's sad, and like the other person said, he sounds lonely, like he is laughing at his own jokes in a room by himself (and he's not half as funny as Mike or Robb)...and when his not so smart wife talks, its really sad...she constantly makes remarks about how much he is a jerk; it seems like she is venting...it's all strange...

Had a chance to listen. My observations? The two people he is working with are stiffs. Maybe they will get better, but at this point they add nothing. I also think his working from OC is hurting the chemistry of the show.

That said, his show is infinitely better than the MOM shit-show. He started out a little stiff and forced, but about 15 minutes in, the old Don was back. Each segment was thought out and had a theme and story arc. Each segment was about a different subject (not episodes on end about dog shit). He had a plan for everything he put out there. Not quite up to D&M in their prime, but worlds ahead of MOM.

His show has gotten better everyday. The woman with him is really good, the guy is a stiff. He sounds better after 8 shows than O'Meara did after 1 year solo. The proper way to judge his show is to give it some time. If he didn't mention he was in OC, I don't think most folks would know. WTL is right, at least Don knows how to structure a radio show. That's why I'll stick with him.Better than EITM or the JUnkies, certainly better than TMOS suckfest.

Good review. About what I expected a honest review to say. Sounds like he really needs to get out of OC before he becomes too comfortable with the setup and it starts to take its toll. He'll find characters, to play off of, as the show matures.

Maybe it's just because I share Don's style of humor but I agree with your review 100% WTL. I remember listening to his old show I would sometimes even turn it off for a while because it just wasn't thick enough or what ever topic or "bit" if you will wasn't interesting enough for me.

Thats the nice thing about podcasts. You can FF. With Don you never know when something flat out funny is going to happen and it usually does sometime or times during his four hour show.

It's a done deal. (Don's relocate) His son Bart lives in L.A. and that is a major motivating factor in his decision to go west coast. (I know Sac Town isn't really W.C.so spare me.)

I think Don wants to succeed in major west coast markets

I got the impression it was more of a "let's see how this goes" thing, but I could be mistaken. I mean he want to be on there, but it could be the suits are hesitant. Did he get a new contract or is he kind of still working off the old one that ends in October?

That's an interesting point. It's possible that Don worked out a deal that extends his current contract out to June 2011. I have a hard time believing that Don would hang everything on a three to four month deal, but I suppose it is possible.

Good question Johnny. That would give him 1 quarter to lift the afternoon ratings at KHTK.

I emailed him after the deal was announced. His response:
"A new 4 year no cut deal. I am thrilled to be back with CBS! I've got a year to make the move...enough time to find the right place and not rush. Thanks for all the support! -d."

I guess he's not talking about his deal on the air, I haven't heard anything of it yet. But I don't listen to all four hours a day...

Don works 12 to 4pm in Sac-Town, which is 3pm to 7pm here. It could very well be that CBS is seeing if Donnie can pull KHTK out of the ratings cellar by October, at which point he could show up on WJFK in the Lavar and Dukes slot. If that happens, no need for Donnie to move anywhere.

Yesterday he said his agent has heard from stations in DC, Balt, Wichita and Tampa Bay about syndicating his new show. He said it would be based from KHTK, no matter what. Sounds like they are lining up Doni for some sort of syndi deal.
Back to WJFK? Or would Clear Channel or Red Zebra or Citadel pick him up for 3-7 time slot?

He's on a CBS contract, so I would assume WJFK would make the most sense.

Maybe not. I remember in the day when Howard's show was placed in a quite a few markets where CBS stations didn't pick him up. Would CBS allow Don to be on a competing station?

Probably not.

Stern started out on Infinity, which was its own network before it was acquired by CBS. Basically Infinity offered Stern to any station that wanted him, regardless of ownership.

As an FYI, I will be making a guest appearance on the MOM thread on July 15th to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the MOM show on WJFK being canceled. Hope the turnout for that is better than the turnout Mike has seen at any of his lame-ass events. Should I call it a "bonus post" and charge for it?

$45. It's a real collectors item.

I'm sure KHTK is going to give the show time to succeed, I don't know about 4 years. Jodi Bacon is okay, but she is not really a radio personality, just a producer, but I think the first few shows of Don talking to himself and laughing at his own jokes made the show sound pathetic. Mongo is a stiff, but again that is his personality, "sports nerd". The show has no cast of characters, yet. It's no D & M show and probably never be that good. I give KHTK some props for trying to make something happen. but I don't know if it will have legs to stand on to become a syndicated show. If they were to syndicate it now, regular D & M show listeners will be very disappointed. Its not an everyday listen kind of show, okay at times. Best of luck, tho!

Funny how Don flies solo for four hours each day and produces more quality and entertaining content than the four no-talents at MOM do in one hour.

I checked it earlier in the week and MOM was at #98 for a while. 58 the other day. What is funny is that Mike makes a point to pimp it all he can. He wants to be in the top 20 or some bullshit like that so it's real important to him and who the fuck knows why? Don doesn't even care or talk much about it if at all.

Don is Batman, Mike is Robin. Together, they're a dynamic duo. And when Batman goes off on his own, he's still good. Robin, on the other hand, needs Batman a lot more than Batman needs Robin. Let's face it, nobody likes Robin by himself. I take back my initial judgment....somewhat; I still think the two stiffs he's working with are dull and bring the show down, and I still just want the old Don and Mike Show, but I was wrong to call it worse than TMOMS. I just miss the old show. Most importantly at this point, Don needs to ditch the annoying radio hole (Jodi "Bacon" or whatever her name is). I hate women on the radio. It's so Jack Diamond to have a lady on your show...that whole 'he said, she said' bullshit is so annoying. Stop it.

Right on Hatemotor... Right on. However I'm not sure about how much spear chucking is warranted. Mike is right where we've told him to go and where he belongs now. In a jacked up piece of shit morning fucking zoo spot. How funny is that shit? I'll have to stream a bit to see that ponderous fucking Butter Bean in action. I'm sure there will be tension overflowing as Mike realizes where he has landed. Another fucking sidekick gig just like an organ grinders monkey.

The new show should provide more material for ridicule than all of MOM's previous
failures combined,,,I'm thinking a Jack Diamond meets Cerph type trainwreck

And what happens to Rob and Buzz,,,and Oscar?

How long until MOM dumps the podcast and tells those guys to get lost?

It would be hilarious if Big O and Dukes got hired to do a rival morning show and
just destroyed MOM in the ratings,,, esp if Robb produced and Buzz did the news

The show dumped Jodi Bacon Friday and moved in as producer (and on-air sidekick) a guy who has been doing an evening sports/lifestyle show for about a year. He's a young guy (mid 30s, 10 years in radio) who follows mixed martial arts and pimps the sport endlessly. Don set the tone in the first show by treating the guy like an intern and busting his balls throughout. Listen to the first hour and you'll get the drift.

You think Mongo and Bacon Bits suck, you are in for a real treat with Carmichael Dave! For starters, the guy is such a homo for Don. He is a nasally sounding, Chris Elliott looking someone that will make long for the days of your beloved, Mike O'Meara. This idiot Sacramento sports guy is about as lively as Ben Stein on zanex.

So to sum up:

Don by himself...didn't work.

Don with Jodi Bacon and Johnny "Snooze" Mongo, didn't work.

Now, Don with a mixed martial arts tard....?

All these changes, one month in to the show and you think that this show is going to last long enough to get picked up?

Hmmmmm....Hope you right...

Re: The Don Geronimo Show

I listened to Friday's show and the explanation about Jodi Bacon Bits seemed really drawn out and contrived. It sounds like Don had a falling out with her and chose not to work on his show.

As for Johnny Mongo, if I never have to hear that "Here Comes Mongo" thing again, I will be happy. We get it. "Here Comes Mongo," who then doesn't say shit for three hours.

I am still a big Donnie G fan and I think his show has potential. But phoning it in from OC isn't going to do it. He needs to either be in studio in Sac-Town and develop some chemistry with the talent, or he needs to have people with him in OC. But this long-distance stuff doesn't work.

Donnie G should listen to Adam Carolla and Theresa Strasser to hear how it is done.

I think he is hesitating to see if WJFK or another DC station picks it up so he can justify staying in OC. He has no intention of moving unless he absolutely forced to.

Yeah,,,but I'm pretty sure Don hates every other radio personality

I do think that he wants to be back on top, and will realize he has to do something dramatic to get there,,,otherwise he will begin to fade into obscurity

People love Don but that may not translate to listening everyday if you know what your going to get

Sometimes it's better to be hated,,,,MOM has the most popular thread on FFU and every time he does something career wise it's posted here immediately

Mike should send Cary a check for helping to keep him relevant

Dukes is much more of a main man than a sidekick. It would probably work better with Don and Oscar, but I think there's just too much of a generation gap there. But Dukes' facebook was indicating that there was going to be some sort of BOAD reunion.

If Don has a four-year, no cut deal, KHTK and CBS are going to do what it takes for the show to be a success. Unlike Mike, Don isn't going to sit on his ass for a year hoping he doesn't get cancelled. He is actually going to try to succeed.

Since Don dropped the bitch Jody, he is in a groove with another guy, Dave? He just needs someone to bounce shit off of. WTL, I agree. Don gives a shit which is probably why he unloaded the lady disc jockey.
He has an awesome 25 minutes with Richard Lewis yesterday, and spent a lot of time ripping a radio consultant then came up with a new radio station logo....93.7 the Anus.
Funnnier stuff than his first few weeks.

I'll have to check it out. Jodi and Mongo didn't offer shit. I think Don kept playing "here comes Mongo" as a cue for Mongo to jump in. He never did. And Jodi's contribution was saying "Uh huh" and "yeah." Don might as well have been on there by himself.

Don't agree that the show is better than D&M at it's best, but I just listened to the July 14th show, and it really seems to be hitting it's stride now. I think he needs to screen calls though. There are still too many people flaming out when he picks up the line and interrupting the show's momentum.

I listen to Ipod all day at work and need lots of material to fill my week. When Don went off the air it created a vacuum that nothing else filled. When mike came back it helped. I am delighted and grateful Don is back. It's different but Don is a very rare talent imo. There's just a few over 30 years that I consider really unique hosts. The "rough around the edges" and start-up problems just add to the fun because of how Don handles it. It doesn't matter who partners-up with Don. In my hall of fame talk hosts I have Larry Glick and Don Geronimo, that's it!

Took a listen. Carmichael Dave is a hell of an improvement over Jodi Bacon and Johnny Mongo. It's definitely a huge improvement. Don sounds a lot more relaxed and less forced now that he has someone who can pick-up the ball and run with it if he needs it.

On the July 14th show he bashed management and CBS for fucking up the podcast and ran with the Carmichael Dave story about Happy Endings. In this one episode, Donnie G covered more territory than MOM did in two years of a radio show and podcast.
