Willards BBQ

Ate at Willards tonight. I think it's comparable to Daves BBQ at a better price. The NC BBQ ain't NC. Will try Levi's next.

I guess you could say that your trip to Willard's will, in the end, all come out under a Buck.

Ate at Willards tonight.

I'm glad you posted this, I really want to check this Willard place out. When you say "Dave's", do you mean Famous Dave's? I ate lunch at Famous Dave's 2 weeks ago and it was pretty good. I'm not a huge BBQ fan but it got me in the mood to try some more places.

I have tried many BBQ places, or at least places that say they are a "real BBQ place" however, Dixie Bones (Rt 1, 2 blocks s of Rt 123 in Woodbridge) is the best I have had in this area.

The ribs are great, the "muddy spuds" are amazing!

Enjoy.

Yes, Famous Daves BBQ. Has anyone eaten at Flavors in Falls Church? http://www.flavorssoulfood.com/ -- Friends have said it was good.

I posted about this place a few weeks ago and can't, in good conscious, recommend it. To each his own.

I went to king street blues in kingstowne, the bbq there was good. The service was also good because it was at the height of lunch hour and they were pretty fast.

I really loved Dixie Bones when I went there, I think we discussed this recently. I thought it was the best BBQ I've had around here (my bbq experience is limited).

Buck, friends have told me some good stuff about that Flavors place in Bailey's XRoads. There are just too many places to eat around there and whenever I'm in that area we end up someplace else. Will check it out as soon as I can though, ther used to be a good persian bakery right near there that I'd love to go back to.

There use to be a BBQ place in Reston and one at Rt29 and Rt50(Down the road from Fairfax City) called Pepper's Texas BBQ. Seems they have shutdown. Has anyone seen where they went?

Unfortunately not, but that place was the real deal. My family ate there all the time when I was a kid

I wouldn't recommend Willards. Their BBQ isn't quite right, and the restaurant itself is way too loud.

Ben's Whole Hog in Manassas had great BBQ, but it's just not the same under (relatively) new ownership. It still might be worth a shot, though.

North Carolina BBQ is yucky. I prefer VA BBQ.

Ate at Flavors last night. Did'nt have the BBQ but got the fried porkchop dinner with baked mac and cheese, collards, cornbread and sweet tea. My lovely wife got fried catfish, mac and cheese, and red and beans and rice. The chops were great (one was cooked more than the other though), the sides were awesome and the cornbread as sweet as my grandma's. The sweet tea was not as good as I hoped but I grew up in the deep south where sweet tea is sweet. The resturant is in poor shape but the food reminded me of Sunday dinners down south. Real soul food, big portions, and not pretentious. Don't go there is you are looking for low fat.

Cool. Thanks. Let me know if you ever try their Fried Chicken. I may try and make it over there on Sunday.

RESton Peace and I just ate at Willard's BBQ. We both enjoyed the pulled chicken, but the sides weren't that great. The collard greens were incredibly bland and the baked beans/coleslaw were both unimpressive. I guess that the corn bread was pretty good.

If you want really great barbeque - check out Corky's in Memphis TN.

You can order online:

http://www.corkysbbq.com/store.htm

This place has waiting lines forever every day of the week and even has a pick up window. Their only competition in TN is Rendevous...

Even though they ship their food frozen, it's great...

If we're going out of town on the recommendations, there is none better than Cook's in Lexington, NC.

While obviously not worth a 6 hour drive, it is a definite must-eat if you're in the neighborhood. Of course, it is located out in the woods. Also, I have no idea how to get there without local help. But I think that is all just evidence that it is a superior BBQ shack.

I love BBQ and have only found a few good joints around here. A good rule of thumb is what the music playing is. If it's Blues or no music at all, your probably OK. Anything else and your in trouble. Also check out the staff. If you see Asians back there cooking it, it probably ain't real BBQ. If you see a bunch of sweater wearing yuppies in there, your gonna be disappointed. If it's a chain store, the odds aren't good. And lastly, if they don't ask if you want your cole slaw on the sandwich, good luck.

Someone mentioned Pepper's and I agree, it was great Texas BBQ.

For NC BBQ there is only one place around here. It's called Burger Delight on Edsal Rd and Pickett.

Famous Dave's is hit or miss, depending on whether it's the "A", "B" or "C" team working there at the time.

I will definitely check out some of the places others have mentioned above. Good Thread.

Old Carolina BBQ in Haymarket is awesome- both TX and Carolina style Barbeque...great sides, decent prices, only open on certain days though...right on Old Carolina Rd.

Willard's sandwiches are hard to beat, but the sides taste like ass. The baked beans were kinda a joke.

With all due respects to all, the best BBQ can only be had in Texas. After 60+ years, SAMMY'S in Ft. Worth is hard to beat.

Well, let me just jump in the car and drive to Texas.

Oh yeah, it's 14 hours away.... maybe will stick to going to places nearby that are more than good enough...
