Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I’m a regular patron of the Rock Hill dog park in Centreville near Westfield HS.
This evening I was told that a dog may have been killed due to an attack by another dog at the park on Wednesday. The witnesses told me that they saw a dog being attacked immediately after it stepped through the gate, and it appeared dead after the owner began to carry it to the car.
The witnesses were new to the park and couldn’t tell me the name of the dog who had been attacked. My heart hurts for that dog and owner, and I am wondering if anyone has any more information about which dog was hurt.
It can happen , people have to be careful mixing their dogs in dog parks and in public , my sorrow goes out to the dead dogs owners . I hope they adopt a new dog ASAP from the county animal shelter or a rescue group to help cure their sorrow .
I once rescued a smaller dog taking big chance of getting bit when two dogs whose collars got caught together meeting at a dog training class bit both the female owners hands drawing blood who tried to get them apart , both dogs came out ok with some bites but never bit me as they knew I was helping them somehow on my hands and knees, so I know how the owners must feel as the women were screaming for help , especially as it happened so fast with their dogs and at that dog park
I think many of us already know what happened here. Not sure if you are aware of what we're doing with equity this year, but you need to check your privilege before going any further and publicizing this. This is Fairfax County, not some two bit town in Georgia.

Nobody asked for your story. Dogs are animals...........
Thank you for the responses. I adopted my dog this past fall, and I didn’t realize how dangerous dog parks can be until now. I’m sad for the dog and it’s owner. I’m also sad because the park has been one of my main social opportunities during the pandemic. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the other owners and bonding with their dogs. I don’t think I’ll be going back now, and I wish I knew who’s dog was hurt/killed- although not knowing might be better.

What on earth posseses some people to need to attend to some smelly animal 16 hours of the day? I have far more productive things in mind like making money, having freedom, fucking wimmen, and partying like it's the 80s.
Dog parks are the wild wild west. Dog parks are an artificial society. You have a bunch of animals that live separate from each other, in many instances living separate from other dogs, all being thrown together. Once a dog is off its leash even an attentive owner has little immediate ability to control the dog. If a dog gets it in its head to attack another dog, or human, then chances are the dog will be able to do so, unless its victim can fend off the attack. Anyone who says "my dog would never" is kidding themselves. Hunting, killing, defending its turf and its status in the pecking order. These are all things that are built into a dog's DNA. A few centuries of breeding them into looking like little stuffed animals doesn't change that.
I am sorry if that bursts your bubble Dog Park Patron.
