It is no wonder that parents don't go to PTA meetings anymore.

The PTA at Rolling Valley ES decided to limit the 6th graders on how much they can spend on their graduation party.

The 6th graders and their parents were asked to participate in various fundraising activities-all advertised as benefitting the end of year party. They raised over $2200 but since they are required to deposit all of their funds with the PTA, the greedy PTA decided to keep some of it for themselves.

Even though some schools spend over $3000 on their celebration, the kids at Rolling Valley get just $1300.

The principal refuses to do anything- saying it is a PTA matter.

Smells like FRAUD to me.

How about $0? There's absolutely nothing worth celebrating. These kids have 6 more years to go. Spoiled suburbanites...

The group you should be sending this to is the parents of this year's fifth graders and CC'ing the PTA and the principal. This may put pressure on them to reconsider, as a non-favorable outcome may cause significant fund raising problems next year.

This PTA is lucky that I was not one of their victims. I would demand a refund.

Nothing good comes out of the PTA. It's just a way for frustrated housewives to fuck with each other in an officially sanctioned arena. And, no, the Principal shouldn't do anything about it because the Principal has no say in what the PTA does.

Maybe an independent audit of the books is in order. Not saying fraud but the treasurer at Navy Elementary walked away with almost $200,000 from their funds before someone got wise.

The majority of non profits have little oversight from what I have seen in the past when it comes to expenditures.

IMO if the money was being raised for the event then every last penny should go to the event.

It was dishonest for the PTA to let the 6th graders raise more money than they were going to be allowed to use.

At the meeting last night, the outgoing (thankfully) PTA president said that basically the whole thing was a misunderstanding....but they were going to keep $1000 anyways to be used at the principal's discretion...hmmmmmm.

Any parent at this school that trusts what this PTA says going forward is nuts.

We participate in PTA and frankly speaking it's better to have PTA than not. PTA organize a lot of activities that schools won't have otherwise. I guess some PTAs are better than others, but that's another issue.

Obviously, I'm not surprised WTL as a democrat hates PTA. He'd rather do nothing and expect things to happen somehow. Keep dreaming, loser.

They are saving up for a down payment on some hand bells (see other thread). :-)

Many schools are abandoning their PTAs and changing to PTOs. More money for the kids is one reason. Less devotion to worthless political expenses is another.

Why do the parents tolerate a pta when pto's are the way to go.
