I drive past that area every day to get to work. As far as I remember, several years back, it was actually a horse (?) farm; I'm assuming the wrecked lot you see in the maps pic is probably the foundation/remains of the barn, the big old house, etc. The "middle" of that property is where the big house stood...I could swear it was white with black shudders, but my mind may be playing the creative fill-in game...

Today, it's covered with paving/construction equipment. My best guess is that whoever lived there probably either died or finally gave into the "We'll buy your land for X million dollars" type of thing (that's a pretty nice piece of property, given its location) and sold it off to X-Y-and-Z construction or property management company.

Dang—Next time y'all see a property that's "prime" for redevelopment like this, please do be sure to ping me BEFORE they demolish it. (Like when the earthmovers show up for the first time is a pretty good time. :) )

It was a farm, black angus. The farm is being turned into "Arrowbrook Centre." The owner still lives in the house towards the bottom and can live there as long as he/she wants.

Go take pictures of the little white house and meadow on the Woodson HS grounds at 236 and Pickett. It's about to become a school bus parking lot for 80 vehicles.

The one out in front? Argh. Why would they knock that down now, if they've left it up for this bloody long already?

Will get out there pronto!

According to Historic Aerials, the barn that was associated with that farm is still standing today. The school must be using it for storage now -- I'm definitely going to be swinging by with my camera looking for trouble, then! :)

There is still a farm that I know of, but it's further down Centreville road (Across from the apartments, off of Frying Pan). I used to chill at that farm some, because my friend's friend owned it. She sold it when she became older though. Lol, I remember trying to drive the little road on it during a tropical storm, and we had to back the car all the way out because the creek flooded the gravel drive. I also remember seeing a transformer blowing up in the distance, and we had a clear view of it across the field (It was WILD to say the least).

That historic aerials site is interesting, but it's incredibly slow.

the farm that OP is talking about is merrybrook, built around 1820. some confederate spy lived there and now shes buried at worldgate in the parking lot.

i think they built a park on the farmlands but the house is still there.

its mentioned in this article.

WestfieldDad is correct. Since, the late 60's, at least... Property continued as a cattle (Black Angus) farming operation. Owner held off from selling for many years while, urban development surrounded the property. There used to be a distinguised/notable sign at the driveway facing Centreville Rd. that depicted a Black Angus bovine. That sign probably now rests on the wall of some newcomer's 'great room.' Owner(s) still reside amidst agreement with present land monger/developer. Grazing cattle could be seen from the Dulles Toll Road until around 2000? Another piece of Fairfax history will fade away...

Just what we need...more commercial real estate.
