Biden raises eyebrows for not wearing mask at Lincoln Memorial after signing mask mandate

President Biden raised eyebrows after signing an executive order requiring masks be worn on federal properties, yet was seen visiting the Lincoln Memorial maskless following his inauguration.
“Biden signed a mask mandate requiring everyone who is on federal land to have to wear masks,” Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra pointed out on Twitter. “Here is Biden tonight at the Lincoln Memorial, which is on federal land, not wearing a mask.”
“Here’s Biden addressing the media, all of whom are wearing masks, while he continues to not wear a mask,” Saavedra reported in a subsequent tweet.
Earlier Wednesday, Biden signed an executive order that mandated the use of masks in federal buildings, on federal lands, and on airlines, trains, and other transit systems that commute between states.
Biden took to social media himself to tout his mask mandate, saying that wearing a mask was “patriotic” and could “save countless lives.”
“Wearing masks isn't a partisan issue — it's a patriotic act that can save countless lives,” Biden said. “That's why I signed an executive order today issuing a mask mandate on federal property. It's time to mask up, America.”
Meanwhile, Bloomberg News reporter Jennifer Epstein shared a photo showing members of the Biden family not wearing masks at the same event.
“The older Biden grandkids, plus Ashley Biden in a chic tux, take pictures at the Lincoln Memorial,” Epstein said.
The lack of masks shortly after implementing a mask mandate drew attention on social media, where some wondered if Biden was guilty of having a double standard.
“Does Joe Biden’s new executive order mandating masks on federal property not apply to Joe Biden while he’s on federal property?” Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk asked on Twitter. “Because here he is at the Lincoln Memorial with no mask just hours after signing it.”
“He wants to be just like the other double standard, Democrat lawmakers,” quipped Rep. Lauren Boebert in reply.
Biden wasn’t the only one drawing attention. Other Twitter users pointed out that administration press secretary Jen Psaki gave her briefing on federal property without wearing a mask.
“Jen Psaki talking about Biden’s mask mandate on federal property, standing maskless on federal property,” said Mike Hahn, a Trump campaign director of social media.
Former Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was also criticized for not wearing a mask during briefings of her own, though there was no mask mandate on federal property at the time.
Biden was giving a televised address at the time he was spotted maskless, which has become a common occurrence throughout the pandemic as deaf viewers have a hard time following such events without the use of lip reading. But it is unclear if Biden’s executive order makes exceptions for such instances.
After completing his address, Biden was pictured being handed a mask by first lady Jill Biden.
“Jill Biden held out her husband’s mask and gloves to put on after he finished speaking,” Epstein said on Twitter.
The White House did not immediately respond to a Washington Examiner request for comment.
