All US presidents since JFK have received secret service protections for life plus for their spouses. It is a US national security need as presidents have had access to the nations highest secrets and they must be protected. Too bad for the cost , cut some welfare frauds off the books and we will be square .
As far as the Democrats insane hate impeachment of President Trump after he now has left office it is totally UN Constitutional . The constitution provides for removal from office for those who commit treason high crimes and misdemeanors , Trump did nothing of the kind , but the founders provided for impeachment removal and possible banning from federal office if a US constitutional official, the US President or a US judge or justice did not resign and leave office , that's all . If they refused then they would be impeached and removed and possible be banned from ever serving in a federal office for profit for life. and that's it, No prison term with the impeachment is allowed and a president may self pardon themselves as the constitution is clear and grants presidents full powers of granting pardons for all federal crimes. Once a president or federal judge leaves office that's it or if they resigned before being impeached . No case has ever been taken to the US Supreme court over this and if one does they will confirm leave office that's it or resign that's it, as that was the founder's intent to just get them out of the office they served in , once that was done and they could be banned from any further federal service the case was closed, but they must be impeached and removed , banning them from federal service can not be done by itself , it is a additional lifetime penalty if they are removed from office by impeachment
So JOE get on your Democrats and tell them to cut the crap and get back to working on the laws of the land . Trump has left office and we the people are sick of this Democrat hate and division circus that's unconstitutional , don't try the high road ever again if Democrats keep on this impeachment path , you will not have any moral authority to ride that high horse committing unconstitutional acts .

The Founders did not provide impeachment as a remedy for those who would not resign or leave office. The Constitution itself is silent on whether an impeachment can only be brought while the person is in office. The Constitution provides two separate punishment for a person who has been convicted after being impeached. One punishment, removal from office, would cease to operate if the person had resigned or left office. The other punishment, barring the person from future positions in the Federal government, would continue beyond leaving office.
The Founders did not invent the idea of impeachment. They borrowed it from Great Britain. The high crimes and misdemeanors language comes straight from British impeachments.
In England and then Britain judges and other government officials served at the pleasure of the monarch. The crown alone controlled the initiation and prosecution of criminal offenses. Impeachment was developed as a legislative tool to allow Parliament to inquire into the conduct of and punish royal officials. There was precedent in England and Britain for impeachments being conducted on officials who had already left office. A famous impeachment on a former royal official was being conducted at the time the Constitution was being drafted. If the Founders having knowledge of this had wanted to limit the initiation or prosecution of impeachments to those still in office, they would have done so in the Constitution.
Donald Trump was impeached while he was in office. He can be tried and convicted by the Senate even though he has left office. The problem is what happens next. What happens if Donald Trump decides to run for office anyways in 2024? Does Congress ignore the bar and let the will of the people to prevail? Does the Federal government try to take steps to prevent Trump's name from appearing on ballots and refuse to count Electoral votes for Trump?
