Fairfax County BETRAYS FCPS Teachers again- Strike Imminent

County Bros,

It looks like Brabrand has betrayed his staff once again. First it was the lying about virtual learning, and now it's about staff pay. The proposed budget will be the second year in a row with no pay increase (step or cost of living) for teaching staff.

Other districts are finding ways to deliver promised step increases, but one of the wealthiest counties in the US is failing to deliver once again. Some jurisdictions are even giving the step increase (but not the pay) so when normal budgets resume, teachers are at the correct experience level. Fairfax and FCPS have done none of that.

There was already a walkout regarding teacher pay in 2019. If Fairfax approves the budget as it is, there will be massive and lengthy walk-outs. Before the strike, it is likely there will be a "work to contract agreement." This is where teachers only work during their contract hours. No work will be completed outside of those hours (lesson planning, grading, etc.)

Fairfax will be in the news again after the administration's embarrassing virtual learning rollout. How many times does FCPS have to be shamed for doing the wrong thing before it does the right thing? Hopefully President Elect Biden will be able to put an emphasis back on education at the federal level.

You should reach out to your school board member and tell them to support the people who have done such a good job of supporting our students.

Do the right thing, bros.

Drive down Hunter Mill Road to see a worthless, 1 million dollar traffic round-a-bout that has no purpose other than to let rich people turn left out of their shitty, 70's looking housing development.

Projects like this are the reason teachers aren't getting a pay raise.

The roundabout is your transportation tax dollars at work. Even though it still comes from the pockets of Fairfax County taxpayers it does not come from the same pot as the funds used to pay for schools.

The question for the OP is after having been paid in the spring of 2020 for doing hardly any work and after having been paid for sloppy performance (not entirely the teacher's fault, although teacher insistence on virtual learning and on maximum employment of teachers played a roll) for the 2020-2021 school year, aren't you just a little ashamed to be asking Fairfax County taxpayers to cough up more money. Remember our current residential real estate tax rates are among the highest in the state.

Of course, YOUR FCPS superintendent just bargained for a nice big pay raise and a new contract from your Democratic school board. What hypocrisy! He will take care of himself and his $100,000+ club members. All day - every day. the low level paid employees can't even live in Farifax County. They have to travel from Prince William and Fauquier County. The so called leadership of FCPS should be ashamed of how they enrich themselves while others are constantly shortchanged.

Teachers don't need a raise. Except for all your trips to the beach, think about all the gas money you are saving this year.

No joke dick. And since I’m no longer locked up in a classroom with your bastard kids I no longer drink. In the classroom.

Adult Alternative Principal Thompson is a fuckstick with a lesbo kid that works at a local field house. He is running that school under.

This is true. Fairfax has continually misappropriated resources to the most privileged areas. Many teachers cannot even afford to live in Fairfax county. There needs to be a serious change in priorities for our children and education.

There does need to be a change in priorities. It may not however be the change you are hoping for. Individual teachers should not be expecting to be able to acquire a Hunters Mill Rd. home on their own. Still it would be possible for two teachers to find a house to share that they could easily afford to rent.

That doesn’t sound equitable.

Many parents support our wonderful teachers and want them treated fairly. #parentsupport

There are also many parents who are thoroughly exasperated with FCPS, its incompetence since covid hit last spring and the almost cavalier way FCPS brushes off its many failures. So far the anger isn't specifically directed at individual teachers. It would not take much for that to change. Teachers pushing for pay increases would probably be the tipping point. Remember that parents are paying for it too, and the overwhelming feeling is that they are not getting their money's worth.
