Being from NOVA, I would like that. But it ain't happening. There are no teams in C & D who have a legit shot. Madison is good, but they have not played a team (other than Stone Bridge-and that did not go well) with a good offense AND a good defense. The real state final is going to be decided when Oscar Smith plays the survivor of Freedom/Battlefield.

Doc isn't the only one who can't win big games, it's Robinsons head coach. Only got to 3rd round once. Has had tremendous talent over the years. All the swapping of QB's this year had to take its toll on team and two QB'S. Lack of passing game as always.

Madison is hitting their stride at the right time. They will handle C-Ville easy.

I'm much more interested in the SoCo-West po game. Would love to see the Wolverines and Warhawks.

Robinson’s last scholarship skill player completed his career in 2010. Teams with disciplined athletes are hard for Robinson to match up with currently.

If Shields would take the training wheels off the offense and let my boy throw the ball around we will crush Warcucks and OS. What happened last time Smith faced a Sophmore QB from Centreville in states. Didn’t work out for them did it and we have the key piece, Shields, who was coached in that game. So yeah we ready for this!

Probably because Centreville's passing game is not that great. Shields is their best receiver-by far-and that is when Resto has time to find him. Under pressure, he isn't that great. And when you have a RB like Ragland, and it is working, why change unless you need to?

Please don't embarrass yourself by thinking the current Centreville team compare to years past nor can compete with OS. If you're referring to the last time CVHS played and beat OS in states I thought it was Walter at QB, who was a junior. If this is the team you're talking about those were grown ass men, not the pop warner team CVHS currently has. That team also had at least 8 D1 scholar athletes on it, current CVHS has what, 1, the coaches son, who's going to VT which is a shitty football school currently. IF CVHS somehow makes it to states, better make sure there are plenty of paramedics there because OS will beat the kitty cats thoroughly enough that I foresee some serious injuries....

Wildcats Nation, you're not ready for what Smith is dishing out THIS decade!! But if Centreville somehow gets to the game @ ODU, then the road to redemption will take another step.. But, don't expect Coach Scott to take his foot off the gas pedal like they did vs South County in last year's 62-21 drubbing of the Stallions! Expect to eat a donut while you taste that running clock in the 3rd quarter.

BTW the pipeline for Smith continues. They'll be young next year but with incoming freshman players with D1 offers already!! AND as usual, they'll likely get a few key transfers that everyone will whine about.. But there's no stopping their momentum now!

Wildcat Nation sounds like the QB's dad. Based on him mentioning Shields, I think he's talking about Noah Kim and Westfield winning in 2017. Comparing those QB's should get you admitted to a mental institution.

This team is young. All the key spots are sophomores or juniors and you’ll have at least 3 more years of the Resto brothers quarterbacking Wildcat nation, they remind me of Tua & Taulia, primed to dominate. So don’t count the scholarships just yet, we’re only getting started. We run this state. Tackle, 7v7 we are the most skilled, built diff!

It's pretty simple. Nobody lives in $500k+ homes like you all in Northern VA.. So, it's pretty easy to move into a different apartment at the end of a lease! Kids in the 757 area are just moving to whatever team has the hottest coaching staff. Said it before, over 100 players suited up for fall practice, no fresham football team, no kids transferring out & even the backups are getting offers!

It's too early to claim a dynasty BUT it's brewing up to be a possibility! Enjoy the show!

7v7 doesn't mean anything when the game is 11v11, the kids in NOVA are smallish in size compared to the south, hell, even compared to LOCO. CVHS was embarrassed by SB early this season, that pales in comparison to what OS would do if CVHS gets lucky enough to get to states. I am not an OS parent or fan, just a realist.

If you live in $500k house in Northern Va, its probably not in a very good neighborhood. There are really no apartments in the better schools neighborhoods
So if players transfer the parents most likely have to sell their house and move to that schools neighborhood. I am sure there are some that sneak their way around that, but not many

Valid point. Although I grew up and live in Vienna and there remain some older 1950/1960 apartment/condo complexes located right next to million plus dollar housing. There is an old condo complex located right next to Madison High School. As much money as there is in Vienna, I'm surprised the Madison coach doesn't recruit and have some rich Madison parents buy up these condo units and house out-of town athletes. It seems this is where high school sports are headed.

1. Riverbend @ Stone Bridge (-20)
- SB rolls 58-3. I don't think any Class 5 team beats them this year, just don't see it happening.

2. South County @ Robinson (-6)
- South County won a thriller 34-28. Great perseverance from the Stallions as they were down 14-0 after the 1st quarter. They bounced back to tie it at 14 a piece at halftime and 28-28 after 3. Late in the 4th SoCo scored on a 75 yard passing touchdown but failed to make the XP. I was thinking Robinson would be able to punch it in, nail the XP, and walk off winners BUT on the following possession, Robinson threw a INT which sealed their fate. As we all know, they are one dimensional on offense and SoCo was able to survive. Hell of a game.

3. South Lakes @ Madison (-17)
- Madison won 48-0. I was surprised by this as it wasn't that much of a blowout the first time they played. The Seahawks threw two early Pick Sixes and I guess they lost all the confidence they had.

4. West Potomac @ Lake Braddock (-10)
- Well, I said I wouldn't be surprised if West Potomac wins and they did, 31-24. West Po jumped out to a 24-10 halftime lead after a 3-3 1st quarter. This game ended the same as SoCo's, with an INT sealing the Bruins fate. LB finishes 9-3 but has to be disappointed.

5. Westfield @ Centreville (-14)
- Centreville won 28-14, nailed this one. I figured Simmons' knowledge of Shields and his schemes would keep this one close. Centreville has a much better team than Westfield, but WF has superior coaching and they always make the most out of what they're handed. They finish 6-6 with mediocre talent and CVille gets ready for the Region Championship.

******** Since there’s not very many games left, I’m going to try my hand with a few other games.

6. Heritage @ Broad Run(-28)
- Broad Run won 24-21.

7. Osbourn @ Batttlefield (-21)
- Battlefield won 48-13, the Bobcats are now 12-0 on the year.

8. Stonewall Jackson @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-28)
- Freedom won 56-7, it was 42-0 at halftime.

Regional Championship week! As many of you know I’m sure, this means all games will be played on Saturday the 27th at 1 PM. Congrats to all the teams that have made it this far.

1. Centreville @ Madison (-6)
- Game of the week. Madison won 21-17 the first time they played (at Centreville) but I feel the score could be a little bit wider the second time around. This is going to be an absolute slugfest though between two very good teams.

2. Mountain View @ Stone Bridge (-24)
- Don’t know much about Mountain View, but I don’t think it matters. I think Stone Bridge will win another State Championship this year. Side note, SB’s basketball team also won States last year and a majority of their best players are also football players. I bet the basketball coach wants them back. But anyways, Stone Bridge wins big,

3. West Potomac @ South County (-6)
- Does the luck run out for the Wolverines this week or do they keep it going? Unbelievable run from them, but my gut tells me it ends on Saturday. SoCo got past the hard part in Robinson, and I think they will be prepared. A shame these two are in the same district but did not play until this week.

***** Doing the same thing I did last week, just trying my hand on some other games around the state as we get down to the nitty gritty.

1. Battlefield @ Freedom (-17)
- A 12-0 team is a 17 point underdog? Yes. Freedom is that talented. Eagles win big as Overton loves to run it up.

2. Broad Run (-3) @ Tuscarora
- Toss-up between 2 really good teams. Game of the week for you Loudoun folks.

3. Hermitage @ Highland Springs (-14)
- Will we be seeing Springers v. Bulldogs yet again in December?

4. Western Branch @ Oscar Smith (-25)
- No doubt the Tigers are the team to beat in Class 6.

Uh, they did play before this. West Potomac beat them by 15 for SoCos homecoming. Now, is it tough to beat someone twice? Yeah, ask Fairfax. I can see this coming down to the last possession either way.

Believe it or not, the Principles/AD are responsible for confirming an actual move out from the old address has occured.. Usually it's pretty clear.. Setting up a secondary apartment is prohibited.

There is a whole new alignment for Class 5! Highland Springs is now in Reg C.. So Stone Bridge vs HSHS would be the Semi-State game in Ashburn!! Reg A will be Winner of Green Run vs Kempsville.. I give both teams an even chance vs Reg B winner, Maury. Stone Bridge is the favorite but IF Highland Springs had to play a 757 team this year, I would have expected them to have lost that game!

Going for the hug upset. Wildcats have played a lot more physical as of late and now know what it’s gonna take to beat Warhawks. 28-24. Surprise will be the passing game coming through for Wildcats, passing td for win in final minutes.

I picked Robo to both win and to cover. This was my biggest miss.

I picked West Potomac to win outright, meaning that I took the points. I called both correctly. It looks like the seeding glitch in Region C that allowed Lake Braddock to avoid West Potomac in the first round only delayed the inevitable Lake Braddock exit from the playoffs. Their unimpressive win against Stuart last week foreshadowed their loss this week. At least Lake Braddock can say they didn't lose in the first round this year.

I correctly picked Centreville to win and cover (this counts as a cover, doesn't it?) I attended this game. My plan was to see if Westfield could hang with Centreville, and if they couldn't, I was going to leave at halftime, thaw out in the car, and go over to Robo/SoCo for the second half of their game. They were tied at halftime, so I couldn't make that move. Judging by the comments on the Robo game, I wish I would have gone there instead. As it was Centreville pulled away in the second half and won comfortably.

I think Spaulding is back for SoCo, which did help them against Robo. West Potomac has had a Cinderella playoff run, but I think the clock strikes midnight this week (which will look weird considering it's an afternoon game). SoCo wins and covers.

Are you against a coach playing his own kid at quarterback if they are the best option? Or do you think he plays his kid over someone else more deserving?

I doubt that, first of all its principal, PTSA has nothing to do with athletics.
Boosters and Grid Iron club, yes.
Doc has done the minimum to keep his job. He has had a winning record and has been to a few playoff games.

Now, will he get pressure from the DSA and maybe the principal to make changes in the staff?
More than likely, yes! So the staff gets the boot, yes! Doc no!

What they have done for the past 5 years with all the talent they have had, is the very minimum. Expectations have to be much higher, with all the talent they have every year. Doc with the current staff has shown they cannot get it done. It is time to start replacing the staff with more experienced coaches and move on. If Doc doesn't agree with that, then he is the problem and it's time for him to move on.

If you don’t think these coach’s play calling is slanted towards making their kids look better than you are naive. It’s not just BR that does it, Shields did it which is why he lost to marginal Westfield teams until this season when his kid was gone. BR with older kid Mitch, choked away playoffs when they had better team but instead of a balanced play calling they went pass heavy. 3-outs and turner overs wear down hs defenses and offenses because they have kids playing both ways. Griffis’ & Shields we’re too worried about stats and making their kids look good so they could try and get them offers came at the cost of the teams. Can’t tell me CVHS shouldn’t ha e beaten Westfield last year, they had better team all around but they just kept throwing up 50-50 balls. Now look at this year, his kids gone, they beat WHS by being balanced. Sticking with what works. Lake Braddock did it with Henderson and his kid Caleb. Lost playoff game cuz they didn’t run Lamont Atkins. So many examples all through out era of “daddy ball”.

Henderson didn't play with Atkins. LB led 16 to 0 when they had a chip shot FG blocked when Ohio State bust AJ Alexander missed Gibson

Cville is more balanced this year because they have a better line. Graduated the lame ass lineman and their dads. Only one returning lineman and the rest are juniors. Plus they had kids out of position. WR playing TE, Moved the TE to Tackle. This year they finally did some things right. Think only 2/3 starters are seniors so should be even better next year.

Cville was pretty decent at running the ball last year but they were too quick to get away from the run because shields thought they could pass their way out of everything with his kid at QB and the talent they had at receiver.

Bingo. The biggest difference in this year's CVille team is their physicality and line play.

Was skeptical about them all season until I saw them for first time play against westfield last week and was quite surprised by how well the Oline played. This is not the typical Oline of years past. They are not big, not 1 D1 caliber Olineman in that mix but they played hard and fire off low and sometimes that’s all you need in high school football, technique and the will too. Quite the contrast of the Westfield oline, those kids were really big but boy do they play with poor technique and not one single roadgrader on that line. They got destroyed by a much smaller Wildcats Dline. Did Westfields old oline coach quit? Never seen them play that poorly before. Congrats to Wildcats and good luck this Sat. Should be a really good game against Madison.

Doesn't Woodson have an interim HFC?
I am guessing they are advertising to make it permanent.
Who would want that job anyways? Very little talent and a meddlesome DSA.

Any games tomorrow? I know Loudoun used to play playoffs on Friday after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately Loudoun started putting all their strong programs in different classifications which really made the regular and postseason less meaningful in my book. I stopped watching Loudoun altogether a while back, while I know Stone Bridge probably is the best team in nova by a fair margin.

In my opinion, botched calls in crucial moments made a huge difference in the outcome of the game. With that said Robinson fumbled in scoring positions twice when they had the opportunity to put the game away. SC's passing game was FAR superior to Robinson's.
1. SC scored on an illegal forward pass. Check the video. 1st pass is thrown from the SC 5-and-half yard line and received at the 7 yard line hash mark. The ball is then illegally thrown down field again for an 88 yard touchdown.
2. On a long SC touchdown run, video appears to show the runner stepping out of bounds around the 26 yard line.
3. On a SC 4th and one and deep in SC's territory and time running low in the 4th quarter, SC decides to go for it. The SC runner appears to get hit in the backfield and driven backwards for an apparent loss. Robinson fans were in disbelief that the ball was spotted as a gain, just enough for the first down. This would have put Robinson in a prime position to win the game.
4. As Robinson was attempting to drive for the wining touchdown the ball was intercepted by SC. From my vantage point it sure looked like both feet were well out of bounds when the catch was made. I was not able to access video footage that would confirm my belief. This was Robinson's last realistic chance to win the game.

Madison seems an easy pick
Mountain View with those points if not to score the upset.

Thank God Lake Braddock lost already. It is supposed to be really cold this weekend. Mama Bruin was right! Maybe Doc should move south?

All FCPS employees are fucking morons. They are so pissed they can’t sit home and watch TV all day and eat snacks on the couch. Now they have to go in person and do nothing.

They could not even teach my kid to write his own name. I taught him in 5 minutes at home. What the fuck do they do all day? Assholes!

I will try my luck at picking the playoff game tomorrow. West Potomac vs South County

Now understand neither team has Doc and staff, who I think most of you already said are the best staff in the state.
You smelllll what the Doc is cooking....wait until next year when the Bruins have their best team ever

Anyway, I digress, those boys from West Potomac were big and really good and I don't think South County is as good as they were last year. So I am picking West Potomac.

BTW the game is during the day and not at night, when its freezing cold!

I’ve been watching these teams all season. WestPo is as good as SoCo. They beat them previously. This area is in love w perennial powers however I doubt most folks have ever seen WestPo play. They lost their #1 QB early in the season and have found a mix of offense & defense. First class coaching w a strong senior class. Impressive wins against quality teams. Enjoy the playoffs everyone!

Well, you kinda asked for it.... Just waiting to see who's next to get that running clock put on them before the end of the 1st Half. It's gonna take more than a couple of good D1 recruits vs Smith.. Tonight was just another example of a good team getting shut down by tbe Tigers.

When a team's average margin of victory is 38 points, your standards get elevated.. Sorry your teams aren't experienced in such matters.

Running clock starts after the kickoff of the 2nd half, unless both teams agree to start it earlier.. They could even agree to end the game early..

A very debatable topic. Some teams really get a lot of transfer student-athletes. I am from a part of the country that doesn’t have a high school on every block. This means we watch kids grow from a toddler through high school playing for their town or township. The definition of the term local product or kid. Because I was not raised in NOVA but a huge fan of high school sports. I wonder what is the thought about winning using kids from other areas or schools? I can’t get it through my mind how a transfer kid or family can move on to another school and claim to be from that school. Thoughts. Have a great weekend!

Several posts up O.Smith explained that down in the Va Beach area kids relocate to play for a particular school/coaches. The lower housing costs make this possible vs up in the NoVa area where the cost of housing makes it difficult.

I think in the future though the NoVa schools will have to find a way to recruit to be able to compete with the Va Beach schools.
