First Westfield game in a while. Never thought I’d see Westfield lines dominated by Marshall. Westfield not only getting kicked in the teeth no one seems upset about it.

Looks like the Concorde will be harsh on WF this year...

Madison and Centreville both crushed their teams in games most thought would be much closer. I guess Stone Bridge is just that good.

Stone Bridge 38
Freedom (W) 35

Freedom had too much trouble with the Wing attack of SB. Freedom had a lot of big plays but weren't too successful with their usual plays out in the flats. But they could be the favorites to win Reg B, UNLESS, they get caught with another ineligible player on their roster. It's kinda their thing, right? One year they have a great season then get caught cheating the next?

Chantilly @ Robinson should be interesting this week. Doubtful the Robinson's run only offense can score enough against Chantilly's defense. I'll take the Chargers by 14.

Westfield vs
South County

Who you got.? Could the Bulldogs reveal SoCo as the posers they are??

St John's Bosco vs
Oscar Smith

Don't expect a VA team to beat a Top tier CA team but... Coach Scott engineered a near upset of IMG a few years back with a heavily recruited team @ Bishop Sullivan HS.

it doesn't matter with the outcome of the St. John Bosco game. They don't count for VHSL's point system.

68-4-6 (2) When the Rating Scale is used to designate teams for championship playoff s,
only games between members of the Virginia High School League, other public schools and
non-public Virginia schools shall be counted.

I had a darn good week! Let's recap...

1. Annandale (-7) @ Lee
- The Atoms won and covered, 42-2. At least Lee finally scored! Although it wasn't on offense...

2. Centreville (-7) @ Mount Vernon
- Centreville blanked MV, 42-0.

3. Freedom-Woodbridge @ Stone Bridge (-7)
- Stone Bridge won, but did not cover 38-35. I tried to watch this game but it required a $69.99 subscruiption that I was not willing to pay. Hell of a game though.

4. Hayfield (-3) @ Falls Church
- Hayfield won and covered, 27-7.

5. Langley @ Oakton (-5)
- Oakton won and covered, 34-15. Oakton looks to be much improved.

6. McLean (-3) @ Edison
- McLean won 16-13, nailed this spread!

7. Robinson (-28) @ Stuart
- Robinson blasted Stuart 57-0. Jeeze.

8. South Lakes (-14) @ Herndon
- Game was PPD until Tuesday.

9. Woodson @ Wakefield (-3)
- Wakefield won and covered, 28-14.

10. Washington-Lee @ Chantilly (-24)
- Chantilly won and covered, 37-6.

11. West Potomac @ Colonial Forge (-8)
- Forge won and covered, 34-17.

12. Westfield (-17) @ Marshall
- Westfield won 26-20 in OT but did not cover. That would've been a VERY bad loss for the Bulldogs.

13. Yorktown @ Madison (-17)
- Madison blanked Yorktown 41-0, they are the real deal.

The season is flying by! It’s almost time to start paying attention to the power point standings. Another week with ZERO games cancelled. Again, great job to all parties.

1. Centreville (-27) @ Wakefield
- This one will be over by halftime.

2. Chantilly @ Robinson (-8)
- Game of the week. Will Chantilly be able to stop the Rams’ rushing attack? Aidan Gobaira is going to have to have a big night. Favoring Robinson at home, but I would not be surprised to see Chantilly win. This should be a great game.

3. Colonial Forge @ Stone Bridge (-21)
- The Mickey train will keep rolling. SB won’t be seriously challenged again until the state championship game. How do they manage to stay in class 5?

4. Edison @ Annandale (-7)
- Ohhhh, National District football. Look for Annandale to win their 2nd game in a row.

5. Fairfax (-7) @ McLean
- The Rebs are looking to start 3-0 for the first time since 2013 and I like their chances.

6. Falls Church (-3) @ Woodson
- Meh. Woodson is atrocious.

7. Hayfield @ Marshall (-7)
- Marshall has a fantastic RB, if Hayfield can shut him down they stand a decent chance. Wouldn’t surprise me if they win but they better have a great game plan.

8. George Mason (-3) @ Langley
- Langley is 0-3, losing to 3 bad teams. I don’t know much about Mason except they beat FC by 30 so I’m rolling with the Mustangs.

9. Lake Braddock @ North Stafford (-6)
- Intriguing matchup. Not too familiar with North Stafford but I’m going with my gut on this one. Doc has yet to prove to me that he can beat a team that is not a complete cupcake.

10. Lee @ Mount Vernon (-38)
- I actually feel bad for the Lancers. As I said earlier this year, they will be the next TJ playing a bunch of no-name schools.

11. Oakton @ Yorktown (-17)
- Oakton is improved, but Yorktown comes in pissed after getting shutout by Madison. This one could get ugly.

12. Stuart @ T.C. Williams (-20)
- T.C.’s first night game on their brand new beautiful blue turf field!

13. West Springfield (-27) @ Washington-Lee
- WS had 2 weeks to prepare for this one, look for it to be over by halftime.

14. Westfield @ South County (-15)
- Co-game of the week. Westfield better show up as they have to play for respect and pride. I think Simmons gets them ready with a hard week of practice after almost losing to Marshall. Problem is, SoCo is just too much at every position. If anyone can knock them off, it will be Westfield. Hoping for a good game.

1. Centreville (-27) @ Wakefield
Centreville wins and covers

2. Chantilly @ Robinson (-8)
This is a tough game to pick a great run defense against a great run team. Robinson is at home and wins in a low scoring game

3. Colonial Forge @ Stone Bridge (-21)
SB wins

4. Edison @ Annandale (-7)
Edison is terrible, Annandale wins and covers

5. Fairfax (-7) @ McLean
Fairfax coaching staff gets the most out of their players, Fairfax wins, could be a blow out

6. Falls Church (-3) @ Woodson
2 really bad teams, looking for what could be their only win of the season. Woodson win in an ugly game.

7. Hayfield @ Marshall (-7)
Marshall beats Hayfield and covers

8. George Mason (-3) @ Langley
Langley gets their first win of the season

9. Lake Braddock @ North Stafford (-6)
Long way down I95 for LB and Doc to travel, they will come home on a quiet bus after a loss.

10. Lee @ Mount Vernon (-38)
MTV in a blow out. Lee is really bad

11. Oakton @ Yorktown (-17)
Oakton has improved, this will be a good test to see how much. Oakton wins outright

12. Stuart @ T.C. Williams (-20)
TC in a blowout on their new blue field in a night game

13. West Springfield (-27) @ Washington-Lee
WS is a good team, WL is a bad team, WS in a blowout

14. Westfield @ South County (-15)
SoCo is the best team in the region Westfield is struggling. SoCo wins but does not cover.

SoCo is the reining North Region Champs! But, I dont believe Madison Westfield or Freedom is in the same region as SoCo? Isn't SoCo North A and Madison, Westfield and Freedom North B? However, didn't SoCo beat both Madison and Westfield last year? Until someone knocks them off, they are the team to beat in this region.

South county is good but they might not make it out of their region. Last year they had a team but #1 #44 #7 #52 are not replaced they lost too much. It’s the Spalding show with no back up. Good team this year not good enough.

My regional Finals predictions

Madison / Chantilly Reg D
South County / Robinson Reg C

Freedom (W), Unity Reed Reg B
Smith / Manchester Reg A

Had Freedom (W) had stayed in Reg C, I don't think Reg D would be playing in a State Title game for a long time.

Freedom (PW) never was in Region D or C, ever. Too far south and always grouped with the PW and RVA schools. Even back a few years when they only had two regions, North and South, they were still not in the North grouping.

Thanks for the recap. Here's how I did against your spreads:

Correctly picked Annandale to win and cover. My pick was a bit nervous; turns out Lee is as bad as everyone says.
>
> 2. Centreville (-7) @ Mount Vernon

Correctly picked Centreville to win and cover. I said I would have had a 14 point spread, but that wouldn't have been enough, either.

Correctly picked Stone Bridge to win, but was wrong against the spead. Half right here.

Correctly picked Hayfield to win and cover.

Correctly picked Oakton to win and cover.

Correctly picked McLean to win. I also picked them to cover. Not sure if winning by 3 counts as a "cover" or not.
>
> 7. Robinson (-28) @ Stuart

Correctly picked Robo to win and cover. Also said that a 28 point spread wasn't nearly enough, and I was right about that. Robo looks like the real deal.

Picked Westfield to win. Got that part right. Also picked Westfield to cover, and I blew that one. Westfield is clearly down this year.
>

Correctly picked Madison to win. I would have expected Yorktown to be stronger; obviously they aren't. I said that Madison would not cover, and boy was I wrong about that.

Chantilly has looked good, but Robo has looked absolutely fantastic. I think Robo wins and covers.

Annandale is on a roll! Kidding. But I think they win and cover. Just wondering who will be the favorite when Edison plays Lee?
>

Fairfax seems to have recovered from their 1-9 and 0-10 seasons not so long ago. I think the Patriot is still a tall order for them, but they have the perfect nonconference schedule, one that really suits their program for where it it now -- get some wins, and build some confidence. At the beginning of the season, I thought McLean would have been their toughest nonconference challenge, but McLean has struggled. I'll take Fairfax to win and cover.
>
> 6. Falls Church (-3) @ Woodson

Woodson is attrocious, but isn't Falls Church also atrocious? After all, they lost to George Mason. I'll take Woodson to win outright (and thanks for giving me three points).

George Mason can't possibly be that good, simply because they beat Falls Church? I don't think so. I'll take Langley to win outright.

I'll take Mt. Vernon to win. Since the spread is more than 35 points, I'm going to pass on picking against the spread.

Yorktown wins, doesn't cover.

Sorry but Freedom play Westfieldin the C vs D Regional Final. That was the game N. Kim got hurt, 2018. Then Freedom got trounced by Manchester in the Title game.

I believe you have to buy an annual subscription for $69 to watch the St. John Bosco game. You have to buy one to watch HS games in the Lynchburg area as well. Thankfully it’s free for local football (except Stone Bridge).

annual subscription is an option but I believe it is about $10-11 for a single game. Annual subscription last spring would have included this fall season. BUT you can / could watch any other games ON DEMAND from previous seasons & other sports too. SO, $69 is not too bad compared to other services!

Fairfax is up 14 - 10 on McLean at Halftime, but they are lucky to be ahead. Fairfax allowed three long drives. They were fortunate that two of them stalled out, leading to one FG and one missed FG.

Someone mentioned an officials shortage
This game is being rented by a referee, an umpire, two linesman, and that's it.

Bosco 28
Smith 0

The game started well enough with a good drive to start the game but an extra effort caused a fumble.

From there the Bosco talent took over. Smith's OL can't protect Vasco. The Tigers still haven't gone into a Heavy, Tight formation.

At this point, it's a matter of protecting the players.

Soco 14 - Westfield 7 at the half. Westfield squandered a first and goal at the 2 in the last minute of the 2nd quarter. B. Spalding with 2 TDs and an interception. That Westfield RB #11 is pretty underrated. Had 130+ yards and 3 td last week. Has about 75 or so yards first half this game.

Bosco is just ridiculous, I mean they have like 8-9 P5 guys. I think we all knew Smith would lose but playing them is a feat. Freedom v. Smith is going to be a good one!

Great to see Oakton 4-0 and respectable again in the region. Jason Rowley and his staff destroyed that program and left it completely bare. Rowley was a toxic coach that was not respected by his players towards the end. There is a reason why the Oakton student section chanted “fire Rowley” in his last game before bailing on Oakton. I say this a as former player of Rowley’s who first hand saw the damage he did to Oakton football. Coach Morgan has done a fantastic job building back the team into a respectable program that hopefully can compete in a few conference games this year.

Btw, Madison will win the region. Then will lose to OS because JMHS will NEVER win a state title in football. Perhaps coach counts should take some tips from their baseball program at Madison and recruit a few studs to come play in Vienna.

So for all of the crap that TJ gets for playing homeschool teams, there is a public school out there who is in worse shape.

TJ drilled Manassas Park 24-0 last night and frankly it wasn’t that close. MP a barely threatened the red zone and looked worse than the two other teams TJ has played this year.

TJ is 3-0 with games against Lewis and Lightridge coming up over the next month. With how terrible National District football is right now, could TJ make a comeback to VHSL a play in the near future?

My regional Finals predictions

Madison / Chantilly Reg D
South County / Robinson Reg C

Freedom (W), Unity Reed Reg B
Smith / Manchester Reg A

Both Smith & Manchester have a Top Tier OL injury that will be key for their deep Play-off runs are to be successful. Freedom just blew out Unity Reed. So, those Reg A teams need to get healthy to challenge Freedom (W).

Chantilly was exposed by Robinson. So Class C&D also appears to be a 3 Team battle.

Still think it's going to be Madison vs Robinson & Smith vs Freedom to see who plays @ODU in Dec.

Westfield "squandered" this opportunity because the officials let 50 seconds run off the clock after the fumble was returned to the South County 2 with 1:35 on the clock. With the time left they could only run three plays. not four.

The Clock issue IS going to continue. Nearly every game I've attended, i've seen the Clock run as if it was a running clock AND a running clock stopped as if regulation play was occurring. 1/2 the games a team has had 5 downs, too!!! The problem is how does a coach call out the problem & how do they correct the time or down?

The fans seem to notice this stuff pretty fast but how will the refs know where to reset the correct time?

With the changes to TJs admin policy, don’t be surprised if they come back to VHSL. With fewer Asians and more “real minorities” getting in, it should up their FB numbers and allow them to gain a little respectability. They are at least competitive in the other sports, why not FB as well.

Madison Guy, do you remember when this same staff was at FC last spring, and your coaches were calling out every play FC was about to run, and were correct 90+% of the time? Don’t under estimate the levels of stupidity now roaming the Hayfield sideline.

The officiating crew for the annandale/edison game also did the langley/meridian. Edison was an early game at 4pm, then they rushed to langley for 7pm game. They are really really hurting for refs. Pandemic has a bit of blame, but really it's the fans, for their verbal harassment. Teams are going to have to start playing at weird times to get games in.

1. Centreville (-27) @ Wakefield
- Centreville blanked Wakefield, 46-0.

2. Chantilly @ Robinson (-8)
- Robinson won and covered, 48-20. Running clock in the 2nd half. Vossler's boys really exposed Chantilly.

3. Colonial Forge @ Stone Bridge (-21)
- SB won and covered, 43-7.

4. Edison @ Annandale (-7)
- Missed this one, Edison won, 28-7. Annandale is worse than I thought.

5. Fairfax (-7) @ McLean
- Fairfax won and covered, 49-24.

6. Falls Church (-3) @ Woodson
- Woodson won 22-0. Congrats to FC on their first win. I totally missed with this one.

7. Hayfield @ Marshall (-7)
- Marshall won 35-34 in OT. Their RB had a fantastic night. Hayfield went for 2 and the win and they were stuffed at the line.

8. George Mason (-3) @ Langley
- George Mason won and covered, 28-7.

9. Lake Braddock @ North Stafford (-6)
- LB won 20-19. Good win for their program.

10. Lee @ Mount Vernon (-38)
- MV blanked Lee 42-0.

11. Oakton @ Yorktown (-17)
- Oakton won 30-28, talk about an upset! Wow, Oakton is much improved.

12. Stuart @ T.C. Williams (-20)
- T.C. won and covered, 34-7.

13. West Springfield (-27) @ Washington-Lee
- WS won 35-14, but did not cover.

14. Westfield @ South County (-15)
- SoCo won 28-20, but did not cover. Heard it was a fantastic game!

***************
- Osbourn Park beat Herndon 40-14, forgot about that game. I would've had OP (-10)
- TJ beat Manassas Park 24-0 to move to 3-0. It's time for them to play a VHSL schedule again.

Another week with no games cancelled! Great job, a lot of areas in the state are getting a lot of games cancelled, so in comparison we are doing a great job up here! It’s a good feeling knowing that on any given Friday your school/team will be playing. Season is almost halfway over for some, crazy stuff. Here we go…

1. Edison @ Robinson (-40)
- Vossler has this team running like a well oiled machine. Edison got their first win of the year last week, but this week? They’re in trouble.

2. Fairfax (-8) @ Falls Church
- Look for Fairfax to start 4-0 for the first time since 2011. Fairfax has the perfect out of conference schedule, but they may be in trouble when Patriot play starts.

3. Herndon @ T.C. Williams (-24)
- Titans will be too much for Hornets, who will be playing 2 games this week.

4. Lake Braddock (-28) @ Annandale
- LB is too physical for Annandale, wouldn’t be surprised if the Bruins pitch a shutout.

5. Madison (-32) @ Langley
- Langley is very bad. This will probably be Madison’s homecoming game next year.

6. Marshall @ Chantilly (-17)
- Was impressed with Marshall’s RB, but Chantilly has a stout D line. Add the Robinson loss and I think they come out pissed this week.

7. McLean @ South Lakes (-10)
- Game will be played on Saturday the 25th. SL’s 2nd game of the week.

8. Mount Vernon @ West Potomac (-3)
- Co-game of the week. Partially due to a weaker slate this week, but I have always loved this rivalry match-up. West Po looking for their first win over their Route One rivals since 2017. They seem to be a little more disciplined, I like West Po at home.

9. Riverside @ Stone Bridge (-35)
- The Mickey train keeps rolling.

10. South Lakes (-21) @ Herndon
- Make-up game from 9/10. South Lakes & Herndon both play two games this week.

11. Stuart @ South County (-30)
- Could see a similar score when Stuart played Robinson…

12. Wakefield (-3) @ Washington-Lee
- The Battle of Arlington, love these rivalry games. This is truly a toss up game. Going with Wakefield who has not lost to W&L since 2016. I can see it going either way though.

13. Woodson (-21) @ Lee
- Lee has a grand total of 2 points in 3 games and has not won a game since 11/1/19, yikes. And they don’t punt at all? What a disaster, Woodson will shut them out. I was temped to make the spread higher…

14. West Springfield (-14) @ Hayfield
- Hayfield is getting better, this is a good test to see where they are. I still like the Spartans by 2+ scores though.

15. Yorktown @ Westfield (-9)
- Game of the week. Can Yorktown bounce back after being upset and pull off an upset of their own? This is a good opportunity for Westfield to get ready for Concorde play. Should be a good game.

Does anyone see any of the below teams losing a regular-season game?

Freedom (W)
Madison
Robinson
South County

There had been general burnout amongst the coaching staff the final couple years of Jason Rowley's tenure. And when Rowley went to Chantilly; most of his people went with him.

Freedom and Madison already lost to Stone Bridge & South County plays Robinson so someone will lose there. Freedom is the best public school team in the area behind Stone Bridge. Madison is 3, SoCo is 4 and Robinson is 5.

Thanks again for posting your lines. I really appreciate the effort and my chance to make my own picks.

Here's how I did picking against the official spreads

Correctly picked Centreville to win and cover.

Correctly picked Robo to win and cover.

Correctly picked Stone Bridge to win and cover.

Don't beat yourself up. I missed this one, too. I picked Annandale to win and cover. Wrong on both counts.
>
> 5. Fairfax (-7) @ McLean
> - Fairfax won and covered, 49-24.

Correctly picked Fairfax to win and cover. They have a soft non-conference schedule, and I thought this would be their biggest nonconference test. I read they were down 10-0 early, then came back. Perhaps a statement win on their part?
>
> 6. Falls Church (-3) @ Woodson

Didn't you mean to congratulate Woodson on their first win. Anyway, I picked Woodson to win outright, so I was right both on the win and against the spread. It doesn't matter, though. Woodson is still awful.
>
> 7. Hayfield @ Marshall (-7)

I picked Marshall to win and cover. Correct on the winnner; wrong pick against the spread.
>
> 8. George Mason (-3) @ Langley
> - George Mason won and covered, 28-7.

I took Langley to win outright, because I couldn't believe that George Mason was that good. Turns out that Langley is really that bad. Blew it on both counts.
>
> 9. Lake Braddock @ North Stafford (-6)

I took North Stafford to win and cover. Missed it on both counts.
>
> 10. Lee @ Mount Vernon (-38)
> - MV blanked Lee 42-0.

I took Mt. Vernon to win, and got that right. I pass on picking against the spread when it is more than 35 points. Congratulations on calling the spread so accurately, though.
>
> 11. Oakton @ Yorktown (-17)
> - Oakton won 30-28, talk about an upset! Wow,

I underestimated Oakton, too. Or maybe I overestimated Yorktown. Or both. I took Yorktown to win, but not cover. So, wrong winner, but correct against the spreadk.
>
> 12. Stuart @ T.C. Williams (-20)

Correctly picked TCW to win and cover.
>
> 13. West Springfield (-27) @ Washington-Lee

Correctly picked WS to win, but I also thought they would cover. Got that part wrong.
>
> 14. Westfield @ South County (-15)

Correctly picked South County to win, but I thought they would also cover, at least based on how unimpressive Westfield has looked so far.

There's a big difference between playing Annandale and playing Robinson. Robo wins. With the over 35 point spread, I'm not picking against the spread, but I think this will be about the margin of victory.

Fairfax wins and covers, and if they play like they played against McLean, they'll cover this easily. Looking ahead at the schedule, Fairfax's next cupcake is Edison. Then they start their Patriot gauntlet, where they'll start falling back to earth. I would note their first two Patriot games are at West Potomac and at Woodson. They should beat Woodson, and are about even against West Po. Also, they avoid South County this year. Talk about having a lucky schedule. How does that happen?
>
> 3. Herndon @ T.C. Williams (-24)

TCW wins and covers. It's unfortunate that Herndon has two games this week. So does South Lakes, but their game against McLean got moved back to Saturday. It seems to me that they should have done this for Herndon as well, because they'll be playing on two days' rest.
>

I can't believe this line is so low. Lake Braddock wins and covers.

Madison wins and covers.

Or perhaps Chantilly was exposed. I think they'll win, but they won't cover.

This being the second game of the week is probably the reason for the low line. I still think South Lakes win win and cover. I wouldn't go much higher with the line, though.

I don't know enough about either of these teams, but I'll take WestPo to win and cover at home.

Stone Bridge wins and covers.

From what little I know about Arlington football, W-L views Yorktown as their biggest rival, and vice versa. Both view Wakefield as their little brother. However, I think little brother wins and covers.

I think the spread is right. The fact that Woodson isn't more than a 21 point favorite against the likes of Lee says something about how bad Woodson is. I still think Woodson wins and covers. I hope Woodson enjoys their win, it will be their last of the season.
>
> 14. West Springfield (-14) @ Hayfield

West Springfield is still too good. They'll win and cover.

I think Westfield wins and covers, but just barely. This isn't the same Westfield from years past. Still I think they are 9 point better than Yorktown.

Robinson does not play SoCo this year in regular season and we haven't beaten SoCo in the last 6 years so I am not automatically assuming a win if we are still 1 dimensional with no passing game. SoCo has done a good job vs running teams the last few years.
