Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler has announced his retirement, the Virginia police department said in a statement Thursday.

His retirement is effective in February of next year.

Fairfax County is seeking an innovative, proven, and visionary leader for its next Chief of Police. With 1,493 sworn officers and 330 professional staff members, the Fairfax County Police Department is the largest law enforcement agency within the Commonwealth of Virginia and serves one of the most diverse communities in the United States. Located outside Washington, D.C., Fairfax County is comprised of more than 1.2 million residents in a jurisdiction of 400 square miles. Fairfax County maintains one of the lowest crime rates in the nation for a jurisdiction of its size, an achievement due in large part to a highly engaged community and committed public servants at all levels of government. The Fairfax County Police Department is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and possesses state accredited status to ensure its business operations continuously meet the gold standard within the law enforcement profession.

The role of Chief of Police requires a unique and diverse set of skills and extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system. The Chief of Police oversees and directs all activities of the Fairfax County Police Department and, in special circumstances and operations, coordinates with its partners in the surrounding areas. In addition to the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive, and the Deputy County Executive, the Chief of Police works closely with various county agencies and departments, public and private organizations, and community groups to develop and implement high quality programs and services that maximize public safety.

The next Chief will be a change agent and consensus builder who has demonstrated the ability to foster positive and trusting relationships between the police department and residents. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in effective community policing, significant senior command level experience in a full-service municipal, urban, law enforcement agency, and possess an advanced education degree.

The rank and file FFX cop is a whiny bitch wants higher pay for less work and doesn't want cameras or any accountability for piss poor shoddy police work. They hated Roessler's guts for trying to improve this rum bunch, who wanted a chief as fucked up as many of them are.
