Has anyone here had Covid-19 or know someone that has had it?

Just wondering.. I don't know of anyone in my neighborhood that's had it or any friends and family. Would really like to go visit our cabin up in rural Wisconsin. But, not sure if it would be a dumb thing to do right now..

I have about 50 immediate family members living in 5 different states. None of them have tested positive for covid even though they pretty much returned to normal lives after mid-April. While none of our family or friends have been infected I do know three clients that have. They all suffered mild flu-like symptoms and recovered in 2-3 days. Back in June or July I think it was.

We have been going to church every week since June, we go to restaurants, have vacationed at the beach and in the mountains, go into the office very day. Life is pretty much normal except for the masks and social distancing.

As long as you practice sanitary habits and wear a mask when you cannot social distance you will be fine.

Sounds like you are one of the people that have been sheltering in place for the last 250 days. You may not be aware that a significant portion of the populace has returned to normal daily living.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to hear that none of your friends or family have been effected by the virus.

Yes, I have been sheltering in place for about 250 days. Mainly because I am living with my parents who are both in their 80s. We have a pretty big yard so it's not that bad. It's getting kind of boring though.

Sounds like you are in a tough spot but I think you can get out a little bit. It seems pretty obvious that the overwhelming majority of all cases are not being contracted by casual contact. I wouldn't recommend mingling in crowds but if casual contact was a primary spreader we would all have it by now. One of the guys here at work has flown like 10 times in the last couple of months and he's been OK.

I've known about 10 people that have gotten it. About 7 of those 10 are hard core "mask nazis" and the rest wear a mask sometimes. None have been hospitalized or had anything other than very minor symptoms. Maybe three had no symptoms at all. I never wear a mask (ever) and go out to restaurants, shopping and basically have had a normal life this year. I have several other friends that also never a mask and they haven't gotten it.

I had it. It sucks, I'm 31, got it bad in June. I had no underlying conditions, was never sick in my life, worked out regularly, etc.

I was in the FX INOVA hospital for 13 days, ICU for 6 of them. I still can't taste everything and to this day my lungs can't handle any sort of cardio, although I try everyday. Doctors have no idea how long it will last. At this point I am guessing that it'll never go away.

I get frustrated when I hear people refusing to wear masks and espousing all kinds of propaganda. This isn't political, you can be a Trumper but wear a mask! It's not a conspiracy it's real and it sucks! You people who say you're not afraid of getting it because you'll just deal with it and get better. Be careful... I have had 4 months to recover and I'm still feeling the effects.

I know quite a few; they range from mask nazis to pretty much "science deniers" as per the lib crowd. Ages from mid-30s to well over 60. Most had no symptoms, few with coughs and typical flu symptoms, one older guy had to stay in hospital for 3 days. None require ventilators or anything of that sort. Absolutely to correlation to wearing masks or not, self-isolating or going all out, or political affiliations for that matter.

So there.

Being skeptical that wearing masks is an effective way to prevent the spread of covid is not completely unreasonable. Do not equate that with believing the virus is a complete hoax. Not the same thing.

Suppose people started getting a disease where they just suddenly started peeing everywhere, call it Sudden Uncontrollable Urination, and it spread through piss. Would you want to walk around in shorts, or would you wear long pants just to keep pee from splashing onto you? Sure, the pee could soak through your pants anyway, but it’s better than getting your bare leg showered upon.

Wow, so you never wore a mask before you got it in June?

My grandfather came down with the virus back in the end of May. He pretty much went on the ventilator immediately and was on it for about 2 months. He ended up dying August 7th a month shy of his 84th birthday. It was brutal for my family as there were huge arguments over whether we should pull the plug or not. I would never wish that experience on even my worst enemy. My grandmother who is 78 also caught the virus though she mainly just had flu-like symptoms and got better in a couple weeks.

Yikes. How old are you? I lasted about a day "sheltering in place" before I was out at least running "necessary" errands (hunting down toilet paper).

Yes, we have known some young and middle age people who got it. None of them got very sick from it at all. It was like a really bad cold for a couple of days and then they started to feel better.

Most of the elderly that we know are still doing a fair amount of social distancing.

I know a number of people who got it, including some who died from it and some who were hospitalized for at least two weeks. They generally fell into one or more of the following categories: 1) They caught it in the early days before measures were taken to limit the spread. 2) The lived or worked in retirement communities. 3) They or someone in their family worked in the health care field. 4) They were in college.

Yea well with my luck I'd get infected and bring it home to my parents. I have more peace of mind knowing there's no chance I'm infected.

I don't think he's going to answer that question.

Perhaps there is a way your parents can take measures to protect themselves
so that you can carry on with your life.

Generally speaking, more effort should be made in considering practical ways those at risk can protect themselves from the virus versus all society shutting down to keep them safe. Doing this may even prove more effective in achieving the end goal of keeping the elderly safe.

I know two people who got it. One believes he was infected while transferring planes, in Frankfurt, Germany in February, another, believes she got it on the job as a Doctor of Pediatrics at a Children's Hospital in Minnesota.

Both said a key is to keep extremely hydrated, by drinking lots and lots of water, and not to rely just on the IV. When you become sick, the body becomes dehydrated trying to stave off the infection. When the brain becomes dehydrated, your neurons fire up, pain intensifies, and dreams become hard and vivid.
