Where can I get rid of old paint?

Where can I recycle or throw out half empty gallons of paint? I have some that I will no longer need?

Take it to the West Ox Rd transfer station and the hazardos materials place there (its in the back). They will be happy to take it.

Edit: While we're on the topic, its interesting to note that the old landfill (the big hill) is the tallest point in Fairfax County, its like 556 feet tall.

I'm sure the FFx County site has info on this, but I thought that as long as the paint was totally dried out (as in open can, leave outside to dry out until solid) that it was okay for that to go out in regular trash. If that is wrong someone please correct with proper references.

This is preferable I guess to what I witnessed in DC. I was in a bathroom in a commercial space and some suite on that floor was being repainted. The painters came in and dumped all their excess in the toilet. Apparently that's legal there. No wonder the Anacostia is so filthy... I couldn't believe it.

Anything is ok in DC. Crackheads for mayor, toll booths to fleece commuters, 3 years old wandering down the street at 2 am, etc.

It's OK to do that with latex paint. Dump some sand or kitty litter in it to help it dry faster into a big clump. Oil-based paint is a different story though.

Right, thats latex only. The oil based is kind of dangerous, pouring that down the toilet and then some other worker comes in to have a smoke and chucks the butt down the toilet and you'll have a fire a la Home Alone 2. But any paint down the drain will royally screw up your pipes if there isnt at least 3 times as much water as paint. It took an electric snake to clear out one pipe I saw that was filled with paint.

or you could use it to make your worthless, shit ford car get a new coat of paint. That way you'd be doing a favor to your vehicle and keeping the environment clean.

If you pour cat liter in it then it helps dry the paint out fast so you can just throw it out with your normal trash.

While you're at it, pour the cat in it, too.

If it's lead-based, give it to Meade. He'll slurp it up by the gallon.

I don't know where to get rid of old paint in Fairfax County. Up here in NYC, we would just throw the bucket, the roller, and the tray into the East River.

Is that you, Jarman? How's everything? Richard Felsenstein is a homo. He is definitely a bald-headed pole smoker.
