When did the Rainforest Cafe in Tysons close?

Did they move somewhere else?

No.

It was different.

In my opinion, different is good.

The food was expensive and mediocre. Ambiance was a big hit with the little ones though.

It closed around 2006. I don't think they re-opened anywhere near the DC area.

Yes. Disneyworld. I think it is a Disney-theme thing. And it was expensive and not that good. I used to take my kids there to see the talking tree and the fake alligator. I ate there once and that was plenty for me.

It was entirely geared toward children (who don't spend alot on drinks & food), and they wasted alot of floorspace on their silly gift shop. I went a few times with kids in tow, and although I didn't like the place, it was good place to go when I had family visiting. I recall the menu was boring, but they did have a pasta jambalaya dish that was quite good.

I never even ate there, but it definitely added a cool atmosphere to the place. I've only been in the malls a few times in the past couple of years, and most often it was just to see a movie at Tysons.

I went there once, in order to see what the hub-bub was about. It was different, but no "better" than any other mall restaurant.

The one in Boston (Burlington Mall, location of the film "Mall Cop") was still open when I was there about 2 weeks ago.

I used to work in Tysons Corner, i got so tires of hearing that damn alligator all day long. Thank god its gone. Besides Forever 21 and Pac Sun got much better spaces in that mall. Totally worth it. Food was mediocre and overpriced.

All that was true plus there was a lot of "incidents" there with children getting touched/molested as they shopped in that retail space. happened at a birthday party we attended -- both Mall Cops and FFX Cty Police responding said it was a "known hunting ground." When the company "retrenched" and closed stores nation-wide, Tysons was one of them.

Posted by: LAP ()

Though they closed in 2006, now 2012 I was surprised. I was hoping to go there for a grandson's birthday party. But to no avail. I went to one in Atlantic City, had a blast. The food was fantastic. I couldn't of asked for better. Plus the misting over me was like I was in a forest! As for the one in Tyson's Corner, it is sad to see them leave. It looks like someone wrote in that a kid or kids got molested there. I would have to say, come on this is shit for what I am hearing. Of course where were the parents anyway, why does a kid get molested at a place where it's not even a playground. But it is a little dark in there, but so many people there would know what is going on there, if should a maniac try anything. Anyway, the one in Tyson's is gone. I am sorry to see it go. My only guess on why they closed would be a case of embezzling, swindle or who knows a case of a lawsuit of some sort. That's since they did have interesting spooky things in there that could upset some kid or some elderly person, thus create a case for a lawsuit to those money hungry folks. I've heard of such cases. Hmm.

When it first opened they had parakeet and other annoying birds, with a bird trainer giving demonstrations next to the alligator. I remember thinking the people that have to work at the stores around rainforest must be so pissed listening to a parakeet scream all day. I think it lasted like 6 months and they were gone.

I hated that place and most especially that damn screeching parakeet. Ugh. I always thought RFC was so tacky and truly a misfit in that mall. Just the noise of the restaurant, bratty kids running around screaming, a virtual stroller parking lot, the overly loud waterfall effects, the crazy lights and the screeching parakeet was enough to repel me. I am proud to say that I never even went in that place; although my kids did with their grandparents.

I imagine it would be like eating at the base of a Kings Dominion roller coaster.

Thats bullshit and youre being a cunt just trying to scare everyone into thinking every stranger in a mall is trying to touch their kids.

Place closed down because with the renovations to the mall the rent was just insane.

My daughter loved the place - the food was decent enough given the other places in the mall at the time (like Slades - although I really like Slade's chicken tenders for some reason or another - and KPC). Then again, the food in Cinderella's Castle at Disney isn't all that hot either ... but that's not what you're really paying for.

Evertime I was in there the tables were packed and there was a long waiting list. But the bar was usually empty and I didn't see people buying a heck of a lot of stuff at their store. Always thought that if they'd ditched those two things and expand their table seating they'd make a heck of a lot more money.

I went to the one in the like-original-Tyson mall outside Boston when they opened in the early 90s. They're still open. Kids and strollers and mom's. Nothing all that special, so didn't go there more than twice.

Would rather go to the far superior Cheesecake Factory.

Why is it that people hate this place? This is the greatest restaurant to which I have ever been, and often times long to hear the low rumble of the crocodile (not alligator). In fact, the recent construction to the Downtown Disney location, which involved the temporary removal of the crocodile, was very disappointing and ruined my entire vacation because I was not able to see it. It is much looked forward to when I make my yearly trip to Rainforest Cafe. It takes in excess of three hours to drive, but is well worth it, and is a highlight of my year. No, I am not a mom, or a young child which it seems people interpret as the target audience. I personally cannot get enough of this place and it saddens me to see them go, particularly the one in Towson which inspired my passion for the Rainforest. It would only be nice if new locations opened in the US for more people to enjoy. Long Live Rainforest Cafe!

The restaurant closed because rainforests are boring. If they had large screens showing non-stop gay porn, maybe some gay alligators having anal sex, cool shit like that, they'd be selling hamburgers like hot potatoes.

Boring? I strongly suggest you consider otherwise. In what ways is the tropical rainforest, the most diverse biome on the planet, and home to nearly half of all species on Earth boring? Simply search "rainforest biodiversity" or "rainforest frogs" or flowers, or birds, or anything similar and you will see that that is a place where life can reach its awesome full potential. People today are so entertained by things such as what you named, or silly apps or games on their phones, that they forget about and take for granted the beauty and wonder of nature around us.

I thought it was such a great place. Highly unusual. Nothing like it anywhere in Fairfax County. I guess maybe Generous George's was a far away second. But for the fun/kid factor....couldn't be beat.

I know you know this is coming...but at least we still have Tippy's Taco House. Not as fun, but the food is kid friendly, good quality, and reasonably priced.

Would you like to know what else is highly unusual? A rare case of cancer.

Just because it's unusual doesn't make it any better.

I was not speaking of you as an individual, but rather the general public as a whole. To many people, watching funny cat videos is a more pressing matter than ensuring the survival of the Panamanian Golden frog, for example, no one seems to care about real world issues such as that anymore because they are distracted by higher technology.

I liked the fish tank.

I also liked the sign that loudly stated that their company had nothing to do with preserving rainforests and that the purpose of the restaurant was to make money for its shareholders. I'm not shitting you, this was really posted on signs in the restaurant and gift shop.
