Slow Websites (Cox Users)

Is anyone else experiencing problems with certain websites loading unusually slow? I first noticed this last night while trying to access my Hotmail account, but this continues today with sites like washingtonpost.com and dell.com and the only consistency seems to be sites which have a lot of graphic content.

I contacted Cox tech support earlier and was eventually referred to Tier 2 where they seemed to determine that the problem was outside of their network. I asked colleagues in Chicago and Boston to check these and other sites and everything seemed to be working fine on their end, however.

I was out of service for three or four hours Monday evening, and yeah there are definitely some performance issues today.

Genevieve and I had some problems last night, pages not loading or taking minutes on end to load.

It's great today. Sounds like a rolling outage.

Everything seems better now...of course it cleared up about 10 minutes after I posted. Connection? You decide. The power of Fairfax Underground!

I'm on Comcast and have had some problems with Yahoo loading lately. I think it's Yahoo.

Fios=sucks. get some kind of cabel internet. THe speed is more or less constant however far you are from the main office. With verizon you gotta be within 18,000 feet of the main office. Eg, the one on braddock near kings park or the one on 29 in centreville. and the closer you are to that magic number, the slower it is. plus max speed of 768 kbps. Cox gives you up to 15 MBps if you get the expensive service. and verizon has worser service than cox.

You sure you're talking about fios and not dsl? Dsl does suck and does depend on how close you are to a station (plus it uses phone lines which are mostly above ground and disrupts easily). Fios is pure fiber-optics up to 15 megs but can go much faster. Cox has also been sucking for me lately, and my work has Cox as well which has also been sucking. It's the only thing available where I am though.

Cox is switching Cable Internet freq's (in the cable) for this area. If you are having problems that last more than one day call customer support.

You are looking at it the wrong way. Better to let the servers go slow or totally down. Boss starts bitching where are all the reports, hey its not my fault the system is acting up. More time to read the regular paper. Something like making lemonade from lemons.

Correct, and when the boss fires your ass for not getting working done you'll really have time to read the paper. I can guarantee that the boss is not going to be the scapegoat.
