What blacks and hispanics see as systematic racism is actually the result of systematic elitism. The wealthy and politically connected residents in the County want to make sure their kids have access to the best, and they are willing to use their wealth and political connections to stack the deck. Whether we are talking about TJ admissions, AAP or which schools get rehabbed the same factors which screw over black and hispanic populations also screw over white students that attend predominantly lower income or lower middle class income schools.

In fact if you are an above average student in a lower income or lower middle class income schools it is worse for you than being just an average student in solidly middle class school. In the lower income and lower middle class income most of the resources are devoted to the underperforming or neediest students under the assumption that the better than average students will manage to learn it on their own.

+100000000 I graduated from Oakton. Luck of the draw as that's where my parents could afford a shithole townhouse in the 80's. I feel my daughter is getting robbed of a proper education. She hasn't been exposed to a fraction of what I was taught at the same grade level. It's a shame. FCPS is a farce.
