Northrop Grumman has chosen Northern Virginia as the new home for its global headquarters, ending a heated competition among Virginia, Maryland and the District for the prestige of playing host to the defense contracting giant.

"Some real estate brokers close to the deal and a Fairfax government source said they expect Northrop to pick a spot at the Fairview Park office complex in Fairfax because it is close to facilities the company already has in Tysons Corner, Rosslyn and other locations."

Fairview Park is nice.

"Fairfax County officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the closed-door negotiations were private, said Northrop sought, among other things, money to help cover the moving costs of its employees and pay for country club memberships. It also sought the use of discounted county hangar space at Dulles International Airport for its corporate jet, sources said. It's not clear if any money for those purposes is forthcoming."

Interesting.

But, lol@DC and lol@MD

Good, 300 people mostly making north of 200k a year will spend a lot of money around here and likely buy houses around here and pay some hefty taxes. Another poke in the eye for Montgomery and DC.

NG has said that cost of rent will be the main factor, so look for them to shy away from Arlington and settle for the Falls Church/Tyson's area (and possibly western Fairfax).

Grumman should move to Reston, but hey, that's just my opinion. We already have a good sized office building of theirs here, and a couple of office parks are about to be freed up as well.

Regardless of where they may end up, a huge "fuck off" to California. How many large companies have moved out in the past few years?

Keep passing bullshit laws and pushing companies out of the state. That's a good way to get the budget looking good again.

You know a state is fucked in the head when all kinds of warning labels have to print an extra line of text to deal with Cali's rules.

They rent almost every floor in the tower at 1000 Wilson in Rosslyn. I wonder if they'll move out of there? You'd think they'd like being close to the Pentagon and the other DoD offices on the Wilson corridor.

They have the outsourcing contract for the state IT agency. Don't they take up about 25-30 percent of the state's IT budget for the next 10 years?

Expect more of this in the future. Virginia is a very contractor friendly state and our proximity to the federal government is very appealing for large government contracting companies.

"McDonnell said this morning on WTOP radio that Virginia will give Northrop Grumman $12 million to $14 million in grants and cash incentives."

How nice to give Northrop Grumman $12 million to $14 million of Virginia taxpayer money.

That's $14 million that could of been used to fix Northern Virginia roads. Has McDonnell forgot that Virginia has a huge deficit right now?

The VITA outsourcing contract is late and in trouble. So Grumman gets the contract extended by 3 years at the same terms. You make more money screwing up on government contracts than if you do them right and on time. The government agencies are stuck with outsourcing because the senior talent has left to join the contract firm.

If 90% of Grumman business is with the Pentagon and the Pentagon gets it's budget cut than Grumman will put a serious hole in the NOVA economy. Can't we fund some eco friendly product companies to come to Northern Virginia. Maybe some solar panel or green technologies company.

Why are we funding Northrup Grumman they made huge profits the last couple of years. This wreaks of kick backs.

I'm willing to bet they will build a new facility for their global headquarters, and it will probably be in the Dulles area.

Thats the same crap Fairfax county did when Exxon moved in during the 80's , the county did everything except buy them toilet paper. You and I pay more in taxes to the county each year than the richest company in the U.S. does.

All the major DoD contractors also got in on the virtual border fence that turned out to be a complete waste of money. We ported the same type of technology that was used in Iraq. It's just amazing that these people in government and contracting never admit to their failures and keep pushing the same crap on the public. It's as bad as welfare.

The move will give VA $30 Million in new tax revenue over the next ten years. Yeah, let's see spend $12-$14M and get $30M back. What a fuckin bonehead move that was. Seriously, are you stupid in real life, or do you just play stupid on the interwebz?

Shame on McDonnell for actually trying to shore up the tax revenues and actually expand them over the next ten years.

Besides, support for this use of cash was bipartisan.

"Both Democrats and Republicans hailed the relocation announcement as a boost for Virginia. Del. Dave Englin, D-Alexandria, called the state "obviously the best choice" and said the use of incentives was appropriate."

Are you kidding me?

Northrup Grumman gets every tax break in the book. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the Federal government and Virginia taxpayers pay Northrup Grumman to do their taxes.

All these big companies do is rape the county and add to road congestion.

OPEN YOUR EYES!

That's why NG payed taxes of $230 million in the first quarter of 2010?

I wouldn't be surprised to find out you're really not a Tax Atty. If you are, you must not be a good one. What's your hourly rate, $12 to $15 an hour?

Try some research, you won't come across as a complete moron.

It's circular looting of the treasury. The pols let the contracts to private firms. The private firms finance their campaigns and hire the pols and their staff as lobbyists for more contracts. The "outsourced" departments hire executives from the contractors to shape long-term budgets. The executives go back to the contractors. The cycle continues ad infinitum.

The private firms also comprise a large number of the directors on the government advisory boards that set long-term budgets.

If you think Northrup Grumman is going to record profits in the highest tax bracket office your crazy. They'll shift that profit to a low tax bracket some other place like Pigsville, AZ or cover it under some defense tax free contract.

Actually, NG did not make any profit the last couple years. Besides Boeing, they were dead last from all the Defense contractors. The NG corporate office will most likely be moving to the Tyson's Corner area. The big NG office building in Reston will be shutting down at the end of the year.

No shit, I believe Texas just surpassed CA for the amount of companies headquartered in any state. And too all those dipshits complaining this is a very good thing for the state and county the employees and employeer will easily pay way over whatever incentives they are getting now. Leave it to this board to find something wrong with creating high paying jobs in the county.

Losses are phony.

Profits are transferred to the execs thru stock options grants.

The company burns thru cash to repurchase shares to offset dilution from options.

There's been a rumor going around that a company nobody ever heard of has been making contingent right-to-buy offers on houses in Great Falls and McLean with strict non-disclosure clauses. Everyone thought it was a foreign government, but maybe it's the advance crew for NG.
