Infamous is when you're more than famous. This man El Guapo is not just famous, he's infamous!

Haha. It's actually kind of funny to read the "official" definition of the word Infamous. I've heard it used in so many sentences within the same context - exceedingly well known / famous.

However, the dictionary describes it as "Having an exceedingly bad reputation; notorious." Oops!

That is NOT how I meant to describe Jammin Java.

Although I'm pretty surprised if you all havent heard of it - it's probably Fairfax/Vienna's nicest venue - full liquor bar, great stage and sound, decent size. It's no State Theater or 930 Club, but it holds it's weight. I've seen many of my favorite national touring acts come through there.

I would say it compares in sound and size to something like Jaxx, but as clean as State Theater. Anyone say that's a fair comparison?

It's a decent, small club. Good sound, not as divey as Jaxx. Sorta in the same league as Iota in Arlington. Drink prices are kinda high, but it's biggest drawback is location. Downtown Vienna isn't exactly a mecca for nightlife.

I would definitely agree on the location aspect. It's great for the act(s) performing if people know about the show prior, but unfortunately not a whole lot of people will just walk in off the street and say "Hey let's randomly go to Jammin Java for the evening." (that is unless you're in a band yourself and like to network).

I always thought the name was a drawback too. A bit too tame for a venue catering to rock music. It makes it sound like you're going to sit around drinking venti lattes all night. Although I did see one of the bartenders get a drink thrown in her face one night, which is pretty rock when you think about it.

Hahahahaha awesome. And yeah, it definitely could use a more descriptive name.

Granted, their coffee is fantastic, buuuuuut when you're out on a Friday or Saturday night watching some rockin' music, most people don't go for the java, they go for the booze.

I'm so used to the place that the name doesn't phase me anymore. It doesn't really hit me until I have out of town friends say "You guys are playing a coffee shop??" and I have to explain to them it's actually a full blown (small) venue.
