Letter from Inova wanting me to sign up for Medicaid

I had to go to the ER for something and I received a letter from Inova that wants me to sign up for Medicaid. I don’t have insurance. Is there any downside to signing up for Medicaid?

You can sign up...let Medicaid pay the bill and then work on dropping it.if you cant afford insurance, I would keep it..you will be limited in the quality of dr as the best wont take it, but any medical sill be paid for,

When you can squeek out some money, try to get your own and get out of Medicaid

How do you not have insurance? I thought it was a Fedreal requirement. Dont you have to prove your insurance coverage when you file your taxes or you pay a penalty?
