Cox is getting rid of USENET

On June 30, 2010, Cox will shut down it's USENET servers. They are offering a "special" deal for subscribers allowing you to get 1 whole month of Giganews for 1/2 off!

After that you're on your own. There's no decrease in price for their internet service, you just get less service. Sounds strangely like a price increase to me, since Giganews costs a minimum of $12 a month.

Maybe for an encore Cox will just drop a bunch of channels and then give us a 'deal' on some magazine subscriptions.

The only people who will notice a difference are nerds who do nothing but download porn, warez, and other various pirated illicit materials.

Cox just plain SUCKS BAD. They never could get newsgroups working for years. Now it's probably only working partway. Their email service has ALWAYS sucked. I use Yahoo for reliable email. Their cable TV broadcast is pixelated. Their ON DEMAND menu freezes up constantly. THE WORST COMPANY I've ever seen.

I've been with COX for too many years. I'm gonna run (not walk) to Verizon FIOS. Too many years of no competition in FFX County helped to shape one CRAPPY company - COX COMMUNICATIONS.

Oh, and COX trolls on this board would you please refund me for the BS service I've had for the last couple years.

Anybody who is considering COX stay far away. Their Internet blows too. I have so much lag while gaming it's painful.

I always thought COX provided horrible service, too. Until we moved. Now that I've had Comcast for 3 years, I'd love to go back to COX. Comcast internet is down ALL the time and they never offer a refund. And, the cable is awful. There's too much static and other noise on the system.

I would go to Fios but they have gutted Usenet as well. Nowhere to go now but pay service. If you don't need or use the binaries groups then go to Google Groups to get the feeds.

no no... only the nerds who do nothing but download porn, warez, and other various pirated illicit materials on USENET...

those of use with better sources don't give a fuck either way... though OP is right, kinda is BS.

also, as rtg says... those who hate on cox haven't had comcast...

Eh, I'd rather take Comcast over Cox.

Doh, who's best depends on where you are. I know folks who hate all of them (different folks -- mostly!) based on their experiences.

Cox is actually not too bad where I live. But we were in a VERY old part of the Media General network, and Cox decided to replace the whole shebang when they took over. I'm sure there are plenty of areas in FFX County that don't have it as good.

Where my dad lives he has Comcast, and I have Cox. After seeing what he goes through I'm quite happy to have Cox.
