A white officer in Fairfax County, Virginia, is facing assault charges after using a stun gun on a black man during a domestic call Friday, authorities say.

Fairfax County Police Officer Tyler Timberlake was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and battery, Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano said in a statement Saturday night.

Descano said video of the incident is "unsettling."

Fairfax County police are expected to hold a news conference soon to discuss the incident.

The police department also said it will release body camera footage of what happened.

Timberlake faces up to 36 months of incarceration.

“I can assure you that I am personally following this case closely to ensure a thorough prosecution and outcome, especially during these trying times," Descano said.

Well, we have a new Commonwealth Attorney. I don't know what to think about this. I've lived in FFX County for 40 years. ALL my interactions with the cops have been excellent. But I'm white. I knew Robert Horan. I knew Ray Morrough. They were honest, straight, exceedingly competent prosecutors, and I've always thought my family was safer because they did their job well.

Again, I'm white. I don't know what the experience of black people is in Fairfax with the cops. I can just tell you, I have a very good friend who's black. He lives in Fredericksburg. He has told me that 4-5 years ago he had to think about it every time he left his house because lots of times he was pulled over for driving while black. He said it's better now. What's it been like here. Don't know.

What do you think about CWA Steve D not prosecuting weed users. Use of narcotics such as weed is disqualifying to buy a gun under federal law. The federal form 4473 has a specific question 11 E to be exact that asks if the gun buyer is a user of illegal controlled substances or the narcotic marijuana

Because Steve D (who is a Democrat who vows to severely prosecute any gun crimes no matter how minor or major including citizens using lawful deadly force again a criminal attacker to make them suffer with lawyers fees ) , will not prosecute marijuana possession arrests

That means no information goes into the federal NCIS data base to deny a gun sale to these narcotic users as they are not convicted because they are not prosecuted.

Is that not great Democrat hypocritical policy, go hard after law abiding citizens for minor paperwork violations such as not having the paper concealed handgun permit on their person when its information is in the state police computer system and leave the narcotics users alone who make for the vast majority of all gun crime deaths

Plus marijuana users who get Steve's free pass can buy guns for others without any criminal weed record as "strawmen" putting guns into the hands of drug dealers who will kill or injure innocent citizens and police officers

I'm also white. I've lived in northern Virginia over 40 years. I have known several Commonwealth Attorneys and Federal prosecutors in the area including both Horan and Morrough. I have also known a number of the Assistant Commonwealth Attorneys who worked under both of these men. All but two of those ACAs were competent. Most were as skilled trial lawyers as you would find in private practice. As for honest and straight, not so much. They were lawyers. They were motivated and behaved like lawyers. They weren't there to see that justice was done. They were there for the win, and they'd use any arrow in their quiver to make sure that happened. Horan clearly had just as much of an agenda as Descano.

I was in Fairfax County as a teen. I remember lots of complaints about police officers harassing white teenagers back in those days. I witnessed enough of those events to say police regularly overstepped proper boundaries. A young guy driving a hot car after school or on weekend evenings was a ticket magnet, and if he had a date or friends with him it was bonus points. The trade off was that the worse that usually happened was that you'd get a ticket, the police would confiscate your pot or alcohol if you had any, and they would call your parents.

I knew black kids in those days. I don't remember their complaints about the police being any different than white kids complaints. In those days people didn't buy their drugs from some local minority kid. It was usually bought from your peers, or you'd drive into the District.

This self righteous Chief of Police just made Fairfax County less safe.

This guy was either drunk, on drugs or crazy and the cops would have had to go hands on. That's when people get hurt, the suspect and the cops.

This officer confronted a man that he knew on a first name basis. This was from multiple interactions during the course of his duties as a “bike team” officer(PCP, COCAINE, HEROIN, and prostitution crimes enforcement.)

This officer clearly knew it was likely that this individual would fight, he knew this individuals pro pendency for violence, and rather than have a direct physical confrontation with this individual, a bare knuckle fight in the middle of the street, which would put the officers, the medics, and most importantly the subject at risk of serious physical injuries, he used a control device that momentarily effects an individuals ability move freely in order to restrain him in a manner most conducive for treatment by the medical professionals that were on scene to address his medical/PCP intoxication.
