2020-2021 School year- reduced pay? FCPS
Posted by: Fcps tax payers ()

I am wondering what is on the table budgetwise? I am sure I will get blasted for asking. I am the first to support substantial teacher payraises during normal times, and I am forgiving of teachers you due to childcare are doing a mediocre job, but we know kids will do some distance learning next school year now. We can prepare. I suspect over half of teachers are not working their normal number of hours, so for next school year I am wondering if they will reduce salaries temporarily to avoid just laying off some teachers. I reduced my work hours to be able to homeschool to make up for so much my kids are missing and to help them navigate those classes that are poorly executed. If I am now making less money to do someone else's job for free with my kids, I don't think most teachers should get full salary especially if half the school year is distance learning.

If there is distance learning this fall I will either move to a state that has in-classroom learning or home-school. Zoom education is shit. Worthless shit.

99.9 % chance that any Virginia teachers, who are full time state employees, get any pay reductions. If things are really bad then maybe some part time positions are eliminated or there is a temporary hiring freeze for new teachers.

Not happening. They're leaning towards opening schools in late September, with a rotating schedule. Students will go in every other day or every 3rd day. Since they need 6 days to make this feasible, they're also looking at half day Saturday classes. Teachers will be expected to be in the classrooms to offer both teaching to everyone to a lesser extent than the current curriculum and extra support to those who are falling behind. Classrooms will be limited to 10 - 12 students so that's why they need to move to A-B-C-D-E-F day schedules (e.g. Monday is an "A Day", Tuesday is a "B Day", etc). Teachers in high risk categories will be provided other alternatives if possible.

Everyone knows the risks, if you want to send your kid in, send them. If not the class should also be on Zoom. I guarantee 70%+ kids would go in person and after a month we’d be around 90%.

I think they should issue pay cuts for distance learning, not because I want my family’s income to go down (spouse is a teacher) but because that is the only way we get back to school. Telling a group they get full pay for half the hours and they will largely embrace it. Tell them it’s half pay and they’ll sing a different tune.

Only factor we need to mitigate is for at risk teachers.

Books help me cope with apathy. I read such philosophical books https://gradesfixer.com/free-essay-examples/philosophy/ in order to feel intellectual hunger. I'm sure you understand. Education and a favorite job create an atmosphere of prosperity and usefulness. Books about culinary innovations are a stage of practical literature. We can recreate a conceived recipe.

Yes, this is an extremely difficult year for our world. It's hard in both industry and education. Students' bad perception of classes at school has been replaced by even worse through online learning. It seems to me that these problems will only accumulate. But gradually, problems with learning can be solved with the help of the site necessary for homework. On this site, they can get personal statement help. But I'll tell you one more thing. With distance learning, there are many factors that distract the student. It also has an extremely negative impact

Yes, reduced salary, hiring freezes and elimination of positions for teachers are all very much on the table. Teaching online will not require as many teachers, so expect layoffs. PE for example, how do you teach PE online and do you really need 6 or 8 PE teachers to do it?

I am glad I retired last year, this will be a very tough year for FCPS and its employees

In that case they wont need the 6-7 Asst Principals they have in the high schools either. If they have no sports, then they wont need DSAs, ADSAs (Athletic Directors).
So they could save a bundle, eliminating or at least reducing the salaries of those positions.

There are a shitload of highly-paid administrators, specialists, etc. who never step foot in a classroom. FCPS has several office buildings throughout the county filled with useless overhead positions who get paid more than actual classroom teachers. Those admins and overhead positions are the ones who need to be let go or have their pay reduced.

I suspect that FCPS will have to do something for financial responsibility. Hell, the teachers and students basically had summer start in March this year. And all those highly paid administrators showed their competence (or lack thereof) during the roll out of the "distant learning" platform! Jeez! Our tax dollars at work.

So no raises less people to manage in the schools as teachers are working from home doing their virtual learning...okay I get it. But money to change names of schools to help the emotionally hurt by the name. At no time has anyone said anything about the money saved from the virus.... Yeah money saved. Where How about the hundreds of busses that have sat or 4 months and will sit for another two month. No fuel usage for 6 months. how about all the other vehicles that have sat. Not only no fuel use but no servicing of the fleet. Didn't need an oil change or filters change if they sat for 6 months. Oh, but lets not forget that we had to ordered electrical busses too. Electrical busses that were never needed. Keep voting for this crap and you will see this county is headed for a bust soon.

You all are ungrateful bastards who don't appreciate what teachers have done for your kids. If you think you are so superior, or think you can do better, try being a teacher for a day. You wouldn't last the hour.

Teaching kids is easy as your carpetbagging, paperwork pushing, lazy ass federal jobs, or your corrupt federal contractor bullshit jobs.

100% agree with the federal jobs. If the rest of the country knew how many people in this city make six figures doing nothing of value they’d be outraged.

I am incredibly grateful for schools taking custody of our kids so the rest of us can go to real or bs jobs. The reason we are becoming ungrateful is because the proposed school year no longer accomplishes that.

You must be new here. We run the county and we always get what we want eventually. When you citizens voted down the meals tax did you notice how property taxes went up the next year? You cannot win so just stfu and keep paying those taxes! Just relax and try to enjoy the freedoms that we allow you to have.

My point exactly. If even you can't stand being home all day with you snowflake spoiled brats, have some respect for the people who put up with them 8 hours a day.

The only people who have it worse than teachers are the police, who have to deal with scumbags all day. And you motherfuckers want to defund both groups.

I only want to cut pay to teachers because the second that happens they’ll all flock back to school. At which point they should get full pay again.

My spouse is more than happy to ‘teach’ from home for full pay but that isn’t what the tax payers are paying for.

If cops were ‘policing’ from home or refusing to get out of their police car I’d say cut their pay. Once they get back to responding to 911 calls you move them back to full pay.

As for the federal leaches. If they’ve been home for three months, they can be fired. No one has suffered from their absence and no one needs them back at work.

I decided to go into teaching after spending over 7 years at Longwood trying to earn a degree. It really is a great slacker job. The wife and I both teach and between the two of us only earn 130k a year. We live a frugal lifestyle in a little townhouse and drive beater cars. When we get our 30 years in we will will be in our mid 50s with enough savings to keep health insurance paid until we are eligible for medicare. I would not trade my summers off for any amount of money.

I am a Fairfax parent desperate to have kids back full-time in the fall so I can return to work.

I personally know a local superintendent who has told me directly that Northern Virginia superintendents are deferring to the state Department of Education on how much kids will be in the building for in-person instruction.

The two key decision makers are:

James Lane: Superintendent of Public Instruction
james.lane@doe.virginia.gov

Atif Qarni: Secretary of Education
atif.qarni@governor.virginia.gov

This is a reasonable expectation for a tax payer. But think about the teachers for a moment. You are eager to get back to work, but does your work expose you to 2,000 kids a day, in a confined space, with no social distancing possible? That is what a high school teacher would face.

Even if we could work out a promising solution to that dilemma, say with a vaccine, how would reducing teacher pay get us any closer to that solution?

I don’t think many are advocating for reducing pay if teachers and kids are going back to school.

The major push to reduce pay is when the county says keep your kids and we will just deliver an education online.

FFX County teachers union is demanding 100% distance learning in the fall. Discipline and maintaining order in the class room is 80% of the hard part of being a teacher. The rest is easy... so easy. Teachers need to understand that "no you are not going get to sit at home and fuck off" under the premise that you are teaching some kind of online distance learning. You fucked off during the Spring and any distance teaching or learning was an abysmal failure.FFX county needs to say we are going to start firing asses and if any distance learning is needed we can outsource that shit to India for $9 an hour and save millions of dollars. I am not in favor of honest, hard working Americans losing there jobs but if you are fucking off and wasting tax payers money then you need to be fired.
