Fairfax County "burning down da house!"

From the Washington Business Journal

Fairfax County has scooped up a vacated Circuit City site in Springfield, will burn it down and plans to develop a commuter parking facility there.

The property, located at 7039 Old Keene Mill Road, has a land area of 118,000 square feet and would serve several Metrobus and Fairfax Connector routes. The county bought the property for $4.5 million on March 19 from D.C.-based Monument Realty, according to county tax assessment records.

Will it collapse into its own footprint when it burns?

I wonder if the slugs will still be able to gather there.

Burn it down? You know how many pollutants are released when you do that? They can't just take a wrecker ball to it?

It's highly unlikely that FCFD will burn in the building. The preparation required to burn in a single family home is almost enough to discourage the practice, let alone a commercial building. Pallets and hay are brought into the house to set ablaze. The days of burning the entire structure to the ground are gone. However, if they can get their hands on the facility to train in other areas such as advancing hose lines and searching, then it might be advantageous. The FCFD doesn't get it's hands on a lot of commercial buildings. They tend to add a few more challenges to a fire beyond that of the single family home.

What about Long John Silvers, Chi Chis and the old Bobs Big Boy? These buildings should also go. They are a major eye sore for Springfield

I thought the county was legally suppose to assess properties at there true value?
why then did they pay a million more than assessed value?
that's a million that could have gone to parks and libraries that the county government is planning to gut

does the county government still give a break on assessments to those who own multi million dollar houses like them in Great Falls/McLean and Oakton?
