The rest of us had been making it damn obvious for three years we weren't happy with the direction that policies were moving under the Trump administration. Every chance we got from January of 2017 to November of 2018 we showed it at the ballot box. Popular demonstrations by Trump opponents in this period exceeded the Tea Party demonstrations in the Obama years. If Trump supporters were complacent in the 2018 midterm election, or in any of the other 2017 and 2018 elections, they have their own ignorance Fox News and Talk Radio to blame. It was fucking obvious to any detached observer that Democrats were coming on strong.

In 2016 the Republican party could say that a rejection of Trump wasn't a rejection of the traditional Republican agenda. That won't be true in 2020. The Republican brand and the Trump brand are now inextricably linked. So in 2020 either Trump succeeds or the entire Trump-Republican brand fails.
