[Cary, I don't know if you have any policies or a place for announcements about more-serious stuff right now. Feel free to put this wherever you think it might do some good. Thanks, man.]

THE VIRGINIA MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATION IS REACHING OUT FOR UV-C ENGINEERING EXPERTISE

The Virginia Manufacturing Association, which represents all kinds of companies that make things in Virginia (including the brewers and distillers!), are looking into ways to make factories safer and cleaner right now.

They put out a call for specific engineering expertise in things like ultraviolet-C light systems, light shielding, and the like. I gather they're looking into retrofitting some manufacturing robots with UV-C emitters to sterilize facilities to help keep factory workers from being exposed to contaminated surfaces (or something).

How do I know this? Virginia has set up a task force to work with the private sector during this virus situation. They're hosting weekly conference calls with all kinds of businesses both to communicate how they can help people but also to communicate things like supply chain problems and stuff they need.

People who run businesses in Virginia participate on these update calls. Many big companies we use every day are already doing so. It has been pretty good to see the degree to which folks from all sectors are trying to think things through and work with each other.

I have no idea who will reading this, but on the off chance that one of you all is an engineer with ultraviolet light expertise, or you might know one, The VMA might be appreciative if you give them a call.

[I debated about whether to bother with some disclaimer, as I normally might not post something serious like this on here. This is legit, it's not some joke. I want us all to be able to buy stuff, so I hope people are able to make stuff. If there's some small way that I can help preserve that capability, it seems worth it to try. If you can help, please do. If you can't, that's OK.]
