Ten officers?? Holy crap, I wonder how much something like that costs, not to mention the time they could have spent accomplishing something else.

Well, since they obtain grants and use on-duty officers pulled from every station, the manpower costs very little since you are so worried. You should be more concerned that over half of the county's 2.5 billion dollar budget goes to the school system. When will you people realize these checkpoints are not operated to be "successful" in terms of arrests but rather as a visual deterrent? Do you really think the officers themselves even want to be there? Do you think they honestly don't know that they will arrest very few drunks at checkpoints?

Why ask me stuff like that? I never said anything like that and don't have answers to your questions.

I guess the relevant question to ask is: Do people not drink and drive because they fear the checkpoint? Personally, I think the vast majority of problems are caused by repeat offenders. I say if you are dui once, you loose your license for a year. Twice, you're taking cabs for the rest of your life.

I agree, but will never happen. Look at all of the money the DMV will lose...

This is what I'm talking about:

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/reports/reports2007/040207dwicrash.htm

This guy Marlon Humberto Miranda Rivera, is 25 years old. Pulled over, then decided to make a run for it. He hit several signs, a car and finally a building (over $50,000 in damage to the building alone).

This is his *second* DUI and he was driving on a suspended license. In this case, I think maybe they should remove his thumbs.

Marlon Humberto Miranda Rivera should take a leap from the I95 bridge over the Quan.

That wouldn't kill you. He could do a few sweet flips, land feet first, swim to the shore, and go have a grog at the bar at the Occoquan Harbor Marina.
