Local police officers have been involved in hundreds of "preventable accidents" every year -- aka, "vehicular collisions that could have been avoided had the drivers adhered to traffic laws and basic roadway etiquette," according to a report in the Washington Examiner.

"It's almost like they're teenagers -- overconfident in their ability to drive. They take defensive driving courses, but they probably should take more of them."

Well I guess it's a good thing that the police are outnumbered by thousands more average citizens on the road everyday, that have never had a defensive driving course and drive like assholes to.

Saw DC and Montgomery County cops in the article, not FFX PD. Not sure it belongs on this forum.

I saw a story on the late evening news were a spokesperson for Montegomery Co. police said that they maintain some 1500 cars on the road using the tiresome phrase "24/7" so relative to that they have few accidents blah blah blah. I wonder how many FFX Co. police cars are on the road on average in these parts? Why wasn't FFX County police in the study? I remember that car accident a couple years back were a county cop crashed into a car on route 1 killing the driver. Speaking of all the cop cars on the road in Montgomery Co. if Fairfax has about the same amount why do you see all those cars sitting seemingly unused over at the McLean station. Are they kept there for parts now that Ford stopped making the Crown Vic?

I'm guessing it's because cops work in different shifts, and have one come on after the other and probably because you can't run a cop car 24/7 without it, you know, crapping out.
