Teaching in Fairfax Co public schools - what's it like?
Posted by: Tweeb ()

Am thinking about looking into teaching jobs in Fairfax County. I'd be teaching middle school or high school English. Would like to hear from people with firsthand experience about what it's like to teach in this system. What are hours like, is there a lot of paperwork/admin, how much control do you have over curriculum, etc. TIA!

Not much English is spoken in FCPS. You should be fluent in Spanish and several shithole country languages if you need to meet with parents. Unless you have several roommates in a very affordable area (ghetto), you won't be able to afford to live in Fairfax on the salary.

It’s a decent employer but the answer to most of your questions depends on which school you teach at. The above post about Spanish speakers is true. The cost to live there is also true. I live 25 miles away. Can’t afford to live in Fairfax County. As an English teacher you’d probably have after hours tutoring to do. We aren’t the highest paying district in the DC area but right in the middle.

There are barely any Spanish speaking students in Vienna. Just white and Asian. All affluent and from stable homes. Teaching kids like that is great.

In El Salvador where the students are smarter and much better behaved as here they protest anything that gets them stirred up when communists posing as liberal Democrats tell them too. The US Constitution offends some of them greatly especially the right to keep and bear arms

Cut that crap about speaking Spanish. You don’t have to. Great to teach anywhere in the northern Virginia area. Best wishes

You’d be better off teaching In Arlington, Falls Church or even Loudoun. Better pay, better benefits and better behaving kids and parents. Teachers in falls church and Arlington routinely hit $100k with a few years under their belt.

I watch teachers get beat up daily, and it was always nigger schools.
Now, it’s brown skin schools in shitty parts of LA.
This area has about a 2-3 year incubation before shit gets outta hand.
Private tutor if your intelligence level maxes out at secondary school Ed.

My friends are teachers that lived like roaches when they were just starting out.
Then, they charmed some rich guy that was altruistic. Statistically smart men marry teachers(they are in their mid 40’s). Now, teaching for these former cockroaches is like a hobby, bc they are wealthy from their spouse’s career-home equity, saving money, not eating out, etc.

Same when I was in HS-teachers they were financially stable had husbands with good careers.

Worse case scenario? Teachers that marry other teachers!
You will live like refugees.

You don't want to be a Fairfax County Employee, teacher or otherwise. Its morphing into PG County Maryland. You're better off going to Loudoun,Prince William or Spotsylvania. The pay in Fairfax sucks, the traffic sucks, the Politicians suck. Pretty much everyhting sucks around here and is getting worse.

Become a police officer. Better pay and lots of overtime if you want. Besides you carry a gun so at least you can defend yourself.

i wouldn’t bother coming here, the whole county has become filled with illeagles and criminals who can’t speak english. it won’t be long before the whole place becomes like woodbridge, with gun fights happening in the streets

And for fun, you can smash a niggers face up against a wall and not face any sort of consequences.

I can handle the gang members, the over crowded classrooms, the grading/paperwork, but it's the lonely dumb manipulative mothers who don't work, who are trying to fill their time by showing up at MY JOB, undermining other children and other parents in a (failed) attempt to score extra points, recommendations to AAP, and/or ridiculous brownie points. I just want to to shout in their dumb ass faces: Get a f%*king life!!

Definitely not South Lakes, I think that might be the worst school on the whole east coast.

when i was in school, most women teachers were middle or older age women

they had husbands who worked and "earned enough", kids who got out of school with good jobs, and didn't have to teach many of them. they felt job and life satisfaction by teaching. and a few unmarried single woman not many - very pretty woman who were teaching while "looking for the right place in life".

if we had a young girl who taught she was not paid hardly and was "a sub" - but teachers were so responsible back then they "were hardly ever not there"

what do you have for teachers today?

back then teachers went home when students did AT THE SAME TIME

(there was no "hey school is over why is the parking lot full of democrat cars??? are they all on overtime ????")

back then if a teacher didn't leave soon after the kids? the janitor would kick the teacher out, simple as that.

the janitor didn't stay any longer than he must to close up - he worked all day

if you drove past the school after school: the school and lot was 100% empty not a single car

EXCEPT FOR A FEW PARENTS WHO TOOK THEIR KID TO THE FIELD TO PLAY BALL IN THE SCHOOL YARD

back then you wouldn't be arrested for it

BEFORE HILLARY CLINTON YOU COULDN'T SUE THE SCHOOL** IF YOU GOT INJURED playing in the park after school, people didn't even TRY that kind of scum democrat trick

TODAY - DEMOCRATS SCHEME WITH EACH OTHER TO SET UP AND PAY OUT HUGE LAWSUITS TO PEOPLE DEMOCRATS OWE MONEY TO WHO HAVE A LYING DOCTOR AND WERE NEVER INJURED

look at lawsuits in democrat states - it's obvious they rape the government with continual lawsuits paid out only to friends of democrats

Easiest job I ever had teaching for Academies( vocational tech) at Plum center.
Collecting a full time paycheck with rich benefits while only needing to work what others would consider part time( in real work world). There are only a handful of weeks we had school the entire week - plus only working 7 hr days WHEN we worked. Early releases, delayed starts, laughable teacher “work days”, paid days when you just didn’t want to go in.... ridiculous. Kids need to really consider teaching as a career choice —- where you collect very generous pay with unheard of benefits .... and then work at part time jobs during all your time off. It’s a total waste of taxpayer dollars.
