One Fairfax: How FCPS Will Change AAP In Grades 3-8

From this week's school board work session on the racial equity problems in the Fairfax County Public Schools Advanced Academic Programs (too many Asian/White kids).

Objective: How to get more minorities into AAP, and how to keep them there when they can't keep up.

Million dollar study identified these problems causing racial disparity in AAP:

Referral Process
Tests
Minimum Required Test Scores
Use of Student Portfolios for Selection
Appeal Process
Lack of Black and Hispanic Teachers
Implementation in the Wrong Schools

In particular, students who don't speak English often face discrimination in acceptance and completion of AAP programs.

Are private/parochial schools an option in this area to get away from this nonsense?

Yes,, you can get away from most (almost all) of the public school nonsense by going private. We gave FCPS a try, but there was no rigor at all. If you have an above average kid (not a genius, just real smart) then go private. Public school is great for special needs and it USED to be good if your kid was gifted. Looks like now it’s not going to be good for them either. Everything gets dumbed down. We never regretted sending our kids to private school. Never missed a penny!

Teacher unions are losing membership.
Less and less view unions as they once did.
What does fcps do?
Introduce the SJW diversity issue.
More jobs for more people that are one step away from Starbucks.

Remember, boundary changes are now based on RACE and INCOME.

Coming soon. Just wait for it.

The Asian population no longer has an advocate on the Fairfax County School Board.

As you may recall, back on July 22, Fairfax County School Board member Ilryong Moon (D) announced that he was quitting the Fairfax County Democratic Committee
after the committee failed to endorse the incumbent Democrat in favor of more liberal candidates.

From Moon's resignation letter:

“…I have been profoundly disappointed with the decision of FCDC to reject an incumbent who has served as an elected official for 20 years and been a loyal member of the Committee for 25 years. Following much reflection over the last two months, I have concluded that, while I remain a strong Democrat, it is time for me to take a pause from FCDC.”

Taking a test in 2nd grade to determine your academic path for the next ten years does not make a lot of sense.

Thinking that your little snowflake is " gifted" and sending him to be educated by less than gifted "teachers" also does not make any sense.

Sending him to parochial schools affliated with known pedophiles makes even less sense.

Actually thinking that your kids are gifted having been born to dumbass liberal parents makes even less sense.

Nothing that dumbass liberal snowflakes do make any sense.

Its a race to the bottom around here, they're pissing away all the money on window lickers and wack jobs. Kids that are average or above average are being neglected. I can't blame parents trying to get their kids in the advanced courses. Thank "No child left behind" legislation, useless testing and the fear of lawsuits because of Individual Educational Programs (IEPS). As usual, blame the double LLs. Liberals and Lawyers.

we know fx co gov is now 6 billion every year in debt for schools - over 6x before sharon bulova became chairman of the board

we know fx co gov built special schools, spending billions that mostly only asians attend* that get more resources than other schools and give out loftier grades

asians are absolutely not smarter - it is all totally political pics - i've schooled with asians i know they are not better or worse than any next student

Conservative parents are just as likely to put the needs or perceived needs of their individual children ahead of what's best for the student body as a whole. Conservative lawmakers are just as likely to pander to the demands for access to existing services of their constituents as liberal lawmakers.

Lawyers are not a cause of the problems. They are a symptom of the problem. Fairfax County Schools used to have a reputation of aggressively litigating demands for special services, which discouraged parents from seeking legal help. When the cost goes down and the likelihood of success goes up, parents are more likely to seek legal help.

The cause of the problem is what you identify as the result, the decision by Fairfax County Schools to move from a mass education system intended to address the needs of the middle 60% of students in favor of a supposedly more individualized system which in theory is supposed to best meet the needs of each individual student, but which in fact ignores the needs of at least half the students in the middle.

GT in its current form has strayed from its original purpose. In the schools I am familiar with three fourths of the AAP center school children there were simply above average students who could as easily be taught in their base schools. Then you had the "doubly gifted" kids, which usually meant kids from upper income households that performed at average levels despite having learning disabilities. The kids in AAP who need to be there (think IEP for the very smart) make up only a fraction of the total AAP population. The solution isn't to pull up the drawbridge so One Fairfax can't dump more kids in. The solution should be to aggressively purge students from AAP who don't genuinely need to be there.

Get a head start on the rush to exit the FCPS and shop for the best private school fit for your kid. The FCPS has been circling the drain for 5 years and the bottom will fall out soon just like MoCo, MD.
