Yes, it's totally worth it if you are a child or a not very bright adult.

You mean the elephants dont enjoy being beaten and shoved into a cramped train to ride all over the country to preform before slack jawed yokels.

I used to work in DC and I liked when the circus came to town. The elephants would parade right down Massachusetts Ave - it was a fun break from work!

Even as a kid I didnt like the zoo or the circus. Always felt bad for the animals being caged up in small areas like that. In the wild the elephants roam over hundreds of miles. I am sure they cant be too thrilled in a box car on a train.
I dont always agree with PETA but they do make some valid points.

As someone who hates clowns, midgets, and carneys, I can truly say that there is nothing I'd like to less than go to some gay-ass circus.

If you really want to see an awesome circus, see "Cirque du Soleil".
THAT is a show.

I don't know how others feel , but that was rated as a ten on the gay meter.

Plus the stinking french, albeit french canadians, had something to do with it which makes he hate it already.

And you know how we fell about Canadians!

The RBB&B Circus is owned and run by Feld Family Entertainment HQed right here in Fairfax county. They probably are still in the building next to the Sheraton Premier and the Cadillac dealership in Vienna.

I am not sure if it is still there, but they had a deli thing called Ringmasters a sort of Hard Rock thing with a circus motif right there also. I think they were trying to franchise it at one point.

I have heard that the company tries to pay its bills with circus tickets.

I met someone who was a circus performer, a showgirl type of thing, for RBB&B back in the 80s. She said that circus performers and other help slept in sleeper cars in an old train. When it was time to go to a show, an rickety old school bus would pick them up and actually charge them a couple of dollars to take them to the arena.

Also, being 19 at the time, she called the circus "a rolling orgy". I guess that is why people used to run away and join the circus.

Animal rights groups, what a joke. They pick out the "cute" animals and say they are being harmed. You don't hear them sticking up for rats, termites or roaches. As for veg's, who claim they don't want life killed so they can eat... what about the living organisms in plants? They have no problem killing those organisms!

Hahaha, that's fuckin funny.

Yes, Ringmasters Deli is still there. I never knew that it had anything to do with the real circus people. I always thought that place looked sorta weird, and I've never gone in there. I guess the thought of being served food by people who work with clowns and animals that perform stunts never really drummed up my appetite.

Maybe I'll stop by there later on, I'll see if I can trade them some Ivanka Trump tickets for a cold cut sub or a bagel.

Who knows? Elephants might think it's cool to be in the circus. They are highly intelligent creatures that are domesticated in some places. Ever seen an elephant and his human handler working together rolling logs around the jungle? I wonder why they submit to that when they could kill the sumbitch with one flick of their trunk...and go on their way?

It's much crueler on the lions and tigers....they would much rather be out there eating peasants...

Yeah they love being in the circus. Every see the video of the one in Hawaii where he smashed out and the cops had to shoot him. Since the cops had handguns the elephant just had to keep taking all those shots until some guy came up with a rifle and began shooting him too. Great fun the circus. Just prior to him busting out he had a bunch of kids on his back. He started to buck and threw the kids off.

They dont get much of a chance in the jungle, being shot with tranquilizers, to keep from being captured.

Who knows? The elephants might think it's cool to be in the habitat that they evolved in, where they can forage and eat the things determined by their natural instinct, where they can go out and exert their territory, and fuck alot of other elephants so they can procreate.

I hate PETA and most of the animal-rights agenda, but I think circuses should be a thing of the past. Capturing nearly-extinct wild animals for profitable entertainment just seems pretty lame.

I have young children and went to Ringling Brothers for the first time in decades a couple of years back. It was actually a very fun show and the kids really liked it. We went to the Patriot Center.

Last year we went again, this time at the Verizon Center. It bored the shit out of me.

I guess if you have little kids and haven't been in forever, the Circus can be fun. But I wouldn't waste my money going for a second time.

Yeah. It was a mountain goat that had its horns grown together into one big horn. As I recall, the Humane Society and PETA really jumped down Ringling Brothers' neck about it.

I have never met anyone who actually liked the clowns. Most kids are scared to death of them and Stephen King didnt do them any favors.

I think people are afraid to say they hate them for fear of being a non conformist.

I question any adult who dresses up like that and runs around acting retarded.

Stephen King took his cues from John Wayne Gacy, so one could argue Gacy is the asshole who ruined clowns.

Or it could just be that clowns are a poorly designed and outmoded entertainment medium.

At the rate man is destroying their natural habitat...lots of critters are going to exist only in captivity.

Tell me, which is worse...zoos or circuses?

Id think a circus would be worse...in the zoo they at least try to creat a natural-looking habitat.

I heard when the circus comes to GMU, they bring the elephants in on the train to the station in FFX and walk em down Braddock rd.

Yeah they were all kidnapped by the Circus that used to set up on the feild behind Reston Town Center before they built up that area and made to be slaves. Packed em all in one technocolour VW bug driven by a iNsANe clown posse.

As a recent former employee of RBBBC,my first advice is not to eat at Ringmasters Deli...nasty, nasty food. As for the circus, I know first hand they do not beat the animals. The animals are actually treated better than the humans! It is a great place to work but extremely stressful and everything is confidential. The video and pictures you see from PETA are marketing propoganda and completely false. If you research PETA you will see that they are not who they say they are...

"It is a great place to work but extremely stressful and everything is confidential"
Why so confidential if they are doing nothing wrong? Elephants normally graze over hundreds of miles, not sure how happy they can be crammed into a box car with all the noise and exhaust from driving town to town.

Confidential because when you are the largest family entertainment company in the world you don't want your competition knowing what is in store for the next circus tour. (Did that really need to be explained?)

We will have to agree to disagree. I may be coming from the far left but I dont belive animals should be made to do mindless tricks especially one potentially as dangerous as an elephant. I refer back to the incident in Hawaii where the elephant went beserk and threw kids off its back and then broke out onto the street. It was shot numerous times until it was finally killed.

Also please note at the end the elephants are being unloaded from none other than BBRBC rail cars with obvious injuries and less than gentle handlers. Hope none of them were you and that is why you are a former employee.

Thanks for sharing the video and I do agree that the footing is horrible. I will say parts looked spliced together but that is a RBBBC train and an elephant but I didn't see any abuse. I worked in the executive offices and had contact with upper level management and folks on the road. They would not and will not tolerate animal abuse.

P.S. Being on the left shouldn't be considered a bad thing.

The video from Hawaii was not some PETA stunt. It was widely reported when it happened. It just proves that elephants have a breaking point and are too large and unpredictable to be used like a common dog for tricks. It is a shame the animal had to suffer the many bullets fired into it as punishment for a persons stupidity and others enjoyment.

The ones in the RBBBC are coming off a closed box car. I would suspect they are stressed out from being put in a closed container with little room to move around. Who can predict what they will do. One of those exiting the car appears to have a problem with the back feet they look deformed.

I need only point to the two "men" from Vegas who claim to know so much about tigers and lions yet the one was close to dying after being dragged about by the tiger. It is just one more case of stupid humans trying to domesticate a wild animal.
