The Impeachment Crisis and its Political Consequences

On Tuesday, congressional Democrats published two articles of impeachment against US President Donald Trump, centering on claims that the president “compromised the national security of the United States.”

The fascist in the White House is being impeached not for ripping thousands of immigrant children from the hands of their parents, persecuting political dissidents Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning, or presiding over a global apparatus of extrajudicial murder. Rather, the impeachment is over Trump’s failure to pursue with sufficient vigor the conflict with Russia.

The impeachment drive and the anti-Russia campaign that predated it have involved an enormous intervention by the CIA and FBI in domestic politics. The impeachment inquiry was itself triggered by a CIA agent working at the White House, while a recently-released report shows that the FBI justified a wiretap of a former Trump aide by citing a Ukraine policy change in the Republican Party’s platform. This process is the first time—with the possible exception of the dark and murky events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy—that the CIA and associated intelligence agencies have sought to remove a sitting president.

Anyone who supports the Democrats’ impeachment operation, in the hope that removing Trump on these grounds can have some sort of progressive consequence, is simply ignoring everything the Democrats and their CIA allies have done and said.

But faced with this enormous series of setbacks and debacles, US imperialism is doubling down, replacing the “war on terror” with preparations for “great-power conflict.” The intractable crisis of American imperialism has generated deep conflicts within the ruling class. But the relative disinterest in the proceedings among the broad mass of the population underscores the fundamentally undemocratic and reactionary character of the operation. Regardless of its outcome, the results will be a further shift to the right. Its success will intensify the confrontation with Russia, with incalculably dangerous consequences. Its failure could actually strengthen Trump.

The fight against the Trump administration is inseparable from the struggle against the capitalist system and the war plots of both parties. It must be conducted completely independent of and in opposition to the Democratic Party. The objective social basis for the fight against the Trump administration is the global upsurge of the class struggle. The growing wave of strikes and protests by the working class, if united internationally and armed with a socialist perspective, is the means of opposing not only the Trump administration, but the capitalist system, of which it is the corrupt excrescence.

You are not only an illiterate buffoon, but you are also clearly delusional. Now that's a big word, so I'll give you plenty of time to look it up. Be sure to practice pronouncing it as well.

The current impeachment hearings have nothing to do with rational arguments or disagreements about either how the Constitution should be construed or with the rule of law. They are arguments over what amounts to religious dogma. The Democrats have accepted the Russian interference hoax, They ignore the open and obvious corrupt involvement of the Bidens' in Ukraine. (The latter is a legitimate area of inquiry by Trump.) They repeat these claims as if they were singing a Gregorian Chant. It's a cult whose belief system allows it to be used to hide the real objectives of its masters, the financial aristocracy and the military/intelligence apparat.

It was pretty clear to me, as it was to WSWS, that the attempt of the U.S. Empire to renew itself through increased military adventures was bound to fail. Even in the heyday of its power, the American Empire was unable to defeat the heroic people of SE Asia, though it did hurt them and their societies grievously. As Noam Chomsky pointed out the use by the U.S. military of a conscript military to fight a colonial war and occupation was an amateurish exercise. After the collapse of the U.S. military in SE Asia by early 1970s the U.S. ruling class changed over to a more typical imperial coercion operation: i.e. a "professional" military of "volunteers", largely drawn from the bottom 70% of the socioeconomic hierarchy. This was bolstered by the use of proxy forces, and by the last resort of all declining empires, mercenaries.

One must question the sanity of strategic planners who think the U.S. can control every place undergoing a crisis in the world. And as far as Major Power War is concerned: the Chinese warned the U.S., in their Oct 1st 70th anniversary parade, by revealing several new weapons systems of a very advanced technological state. Sane leaders would be trying to work out an amiable accord with the Chinese, not this endless goading and bullying, and that from a much weakened U.S. geostrategic position, as compared to that from 40 years ago.

Extending some 700 miles into China from the sea where 85% plus of all the billion plus people in China live.

Tell us how US nukes could kill those billion and more with strategic strikes in 3 weeks time causing the survivors to wither on the vine for a few more months

Some day the US will have to act or we will die at Chinese Hands aided by the Soviets and the North Koreans despite any weak liberal Democrats views China is still decidedly RED CHINA and they will bury us with help from within our own nation aided by other weak traitors to America

Its coming Oil will be a cause as well as other needed defense materials and the escalation over the waters off China and Island of Taiwan as well as any other areas the Chinese may want try to take over

Meanwhile Democrats propagandize BS about "Global Warming "
