Agree that a 4.4 separates some but the following are tough under 6 ft receivers that didn't run 4.4 D. Amendola 5-11 4.58,-- Wes Welker 5-9 4.65, --J. Edlemann 5-10 4.52, --A. Randle-el 5-9 4.54 All 4.5 and 4.6 range. I believe it's about route running. That's where the smaller receivers need to spend their time improving. I do agree the FCS schools will give them a chance to shine but as a coach you need both burners to stretch the field and tough great route runners with great hands to move the chains. Tony Dungy advised his scouts to leave that stop watch and trust your eyes. Does a guy make plays or not? That is his philosophy and mine. The GOAT Jerry Rice is taller than 6 ft but his 40 time was not impressive, trust your eyes!

I emailed coach and asked him, how bad of an impact the COVID 19- is hitting High school football and he said pretty bad.
1st. a lot of students are not able to work out because they don't have the gear at home. We might not have a football season if the virus is not control by then. If this doesn't want to make you cry nothing will..

Yes we may lose and entire year of football, The only real ray of hope is a vaccine created ahead of what it normally takes to have one and or a solid treatment for the virus. History on large outbreaks tells us their will be a 2nd wave of large scale infections probably right in the fall when people start thinking we are out of the woods. I So hope I am wrong about this.

Are you kidding me? Billy Edwards is one of the top QBs in the state with at least 20 plus D1 offers. You need to recognize LB will have at least 4-5 D1 players this year, if football happens this year, they will be State Champs!!!

Best team ever....huh, right!

Tell that to these past Lake Braddock football teams:

1996
1999
2009
2010
2014
2016

All were very well coached and would have crushed any of the Lake Braddock teams in the past 3 years

I think there will be a school year and football season. At some point everyone will realize this slightly-more-severe-than-usual flu is not a significant health risk to most people. It's not going away, there will never be a "cure," a vaccine will be years off and not 100%. We need to learn to live with this virus and the sooner the better.

Major League Baseball study showed 70% of their infected employees were asymptomatic. That means 70% of the people infected had no symptoms that had them seeking ANY medical care. If you are under 70 years old and don't have a serious health problem you are not at risk of dying. That's the data. Let's have some FOOTBALL!!!

It has to be poor coaching!

With all the talent LB has, they should be a top 5 team team in the state and playing for a state title each year. The past 3 years they have had 3-4 D1 players each year and still couldn't win the district or the region. Again this year, they will have 5-6 D1 players and do nothing.

What did Doc bring to the LB program? Getting players to behave in school?
Apparently winning is not important in Doc's program, as long as you try hard, everyone will be a winner.

Not really. You should actually base your statements on facts, not the Washington Post. What VHSL said was, the phase 1 reopening of most of Virginia doesn’t mean HS teams can start their off-season. When the Governor allows further changes, the VHSL will re-evaluate.

In reality, what VHSL did was prevent the rest of the state to start off-season while Fairfax, Louden, PW, Arlington, and Alexandria are still on lockdown. Just trying to maintain fairness. If the entire state re-opened it is likely they would have allowed the off-season to go forward.

Again, check your facts next time.

No they shouldn't be on the FCPS fields, those will not officially open until tomorrow, 5/29. However, county park fields are open and they could be there in groups of 10 or less, and obviously without any FCPS coaches present, as per VHSL there is to be no off-season contact yet....

I have seen some coaches walk around the track and shout instructions to the players as their team works out on the field. This gives the players some direction and allows them to get a better structured workout with adult supervision.

VHSL created these potential return to football scenarios. At least in northern Virginia, the Football Coaches Committee is favoring Option D in all Scenarios.

Scenario #1
First Practice Date: September 1
First Contest Date: September 18 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: September 25 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A
Region Quarterfinals: November 14
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 8 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 7 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season.

Option B (Assumes top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 9 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 8 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Bringing only the top 4 teams into the playoffs opens additional week for regular season.
4. Maintains regular calendar dates for the post season.

Option C (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 8 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: November 21
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 9 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 8 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Moving region and state dates by one week later increases potential for inclement weather.
4. Maintains regular calendar dates for the post season.

Option D (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 10 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 9 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Moving region and state dates by one week later increases potential for inclement weather. Bringing only the top 4 teams into the playoffs opens additional week for regular season.
4. Maintains regular calendar dates for the post season.

Scenario #2
First Practice Date: September 15
First Contest Date: October 2 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: October 8 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A
Region Quarterfinals: November 14
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 6 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 5 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season.

Option B (assumes top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 7 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 6 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season, sans region quarterfinals.
4. Creates additional week for regular season games.

Option C (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 8 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: November 21
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 7 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 6 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Moving region and state dates 1 week later increases the weeks available for regular season games, but also increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Option D (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:

Scenario #3
First Practice Date: October 1
First Contest Date: October 19 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: October 24 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A
Region Quarterfinals: November 14
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 3 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 2 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.- Mon.-Fri.); Could potentially get 4 games played in the first two weeks with a modified schedule (Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat.) because the first contest date would potentially be a Monday. This may not be ideal early in the season, particularly with an atypical preseason.
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season.

Option B (Assumes top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 4 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 3 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules
(e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri. or Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat.) This may not be ideal early in the season, particularly with an atypical preseason.
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season, sans region quarterfinals.
4. Creates additional week for regular season games.

Option C (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 8 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: November 21
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 4 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 3 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules
(e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri. or Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat.) This may not be ideal early in the season, particularly with an atypical preseason.
3. Maintains regular postseason process; moving region and state dates 1 week later increases the weeks available for regular season games, but also increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Option D (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:

3. Maintains regular postseason process, sans region quarterfinals; moving region and state dates 1 week later increases the weeks available for regular season games, but also increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Scenario #4
First Practice Date: October 15
First Contest Date: November 2 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: November 7 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A (Assumes moving state final back 2 weeks & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: December 5
Region Finals: December 12
State Semifinals: December 19
State Championships: December 26

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 4 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 4 traditional game dates (if you use the first Saturday).
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. With only 1 scrimmage, teams could get 4 games played in the first 2 weeks with a Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat. modified schedule.
4. Moving region and state games back two weeks increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Football will be played in the spring. The VHSL cannot survive financially without the state football playoffs and individual athletic departments can't find other sports without football revenue. That's why it will be played in the spring because a fall season without fans doesn't fix the revenue problem.
It's football in the spring and other sports also get to play or no sports at all for the entire school year.

Maryland announced today that they will be playing fall sports, as originally planned. No changes. Obviously our Governor is an idiot, so who knows what he’ll pull off. Hopefully we get 2 scrimmages and 10 games.

As for Hayfield, is that true about H? Coach Hill is a great man. Was HC after Pugh had a stroke in ‘09. Was HC until 2013 or 2014. No idea why he was replaced. He was the man for that job.

Well, that's at least a glimmer of hope. Coonman get's his marching orders from Hogan the Hut, so he almost always does what Maryland does, just a week or two later. He'll have to backtrack on his official guidance that he just put out, but having principles isn't something our governor worries about.

I know Doc and LB are happy about this.
We have 4-5 D1 players who will be tearing it up this year.
With SoCo and Westfield being on the downside this year, look for LB to win it all

I believe this is the most talented team LB has ever had.
Doc and the staff have done such a great job with building this program and making it one of the most respected in the state.

He is a very good HS QB, but I dont think he will do very much at ODU.
Speed and athleticism will hurt him at the D1level,he ran a 5.0 40 at NIKE. They list him at 6'3 200, no way he is 200, maybe 175-180 at best. So he will need to red shirt and get stronger and much faster.

Edwards has trouble reading defenses at the HS level, colleges will be even more complex. Too many times you see in his tape, that he is just throwing the ball up and gets lucky, his receivers just make a play on the ball.

I think his talent level would have been more suited to a lower D1 level

"I think his talent level would have been more suited to a lower D1 level"??

How much lower than ODU do you get? 1-11 last year against mid level teams at best.

I expected a higher level team based on how Doc bragged about him here.

Doc's players go on to the next level.

Billy Edwards, QB, is going to play at ODU. Again this year, look for LB to have at least 5-6 or more D1 players.

No school in this region or the state has as many players going on to play at the next level, as Doc has. I think that speaks volumes for the job Doc and staff does with the players. He coaches them up and they are ready to play college football.
I can see him in the near future taking on a college job, but until then watch out for the Bruins

People should now clearly see why everyone is saying this is the best staff in the state!

Your best player is going to a school that just went 1-11. He probably won’t even see the field.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Robinson’s best player is deciding between Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Etc. YAWNNNNN.

Doc runs his program just like a college program and the boys are accountable.

They are having virtual meetings with the team, going over the plays and expectations for each player. The players then go out and do the workouts as designed. This staff cares about these boys and keep a close eye on them to make sure things are being done the right way.

That's why they are the best staff in the state. Everyone on here knows that

I dont think the Robinson kid made all state. Dont get me wrong, he is big but just being big doesnt cut it. At this time, he doesn't compare to previous big men from NOVA such as Tim Settle, Matt Burrell. This year could be his breakout year though, time will tell. The best big man in NOVA this past season was the Chantilly kid by far.

LB will be LB, what's new. Nothing special, very vanilla. Without their TE from this past season, it might be a little tougher than just throwing the ball up and hoping he catches it. They barely beat a slightly above average team in MV in the playoffs then got rocked as usual.

Being entitled can only carry you so far.

Tristan Leigh was 1st team all-state in 6A as a JR. The Chantilly kid is a project type kid at the college level. He isn’t close to the same level as Leigh. Leigh is nearly as big and 4x the athlete. Settle and Burrell, as talented as they were did not have both the size and athleticism of Leigh. If he continues to develop he could be a 1st round NFL type guy.

What makes you think Westfield and Soco will be "down" this season? They will be the two best teams from Fairfax County no question.

Sorry, no where near the talent of a Allen, Burrell or Settle. He is athletic, but he doesn't have the mindset of a high Power 5 school lineman. He will need to gain some weight and hopefully that doesn't negate his athleticism. I dont think he will see the field at those schools. Against LB, he has never been a factor.

I am not saying Leigh isn't a good player, but I think he is more of a combine superstar then a top lineman. 4-5 pancakes, please, He did not dominate any game against LB.

If there is no fall sports season and the students go back in the fall all virtual (online) a senior could decide to opt out of school and repeat his senior year the following year. Therefore, keeping his eligibility intact under the grounds that this student has difficulties learning in the virtual environment.

Its a gray area as they have no redshirt rule in high school, this would be unprecedented, however so are the times we are in.

Its either going to be that or a mass exodus to private schools and players reclassing.

Over the past 3 years, Doc and staff has had more talent at LB then any school in the region and he still cant Westfield or SoCo. He will never win the north region. Put Doc and staff at Woodson, Fairfax or WS and you will never hear of him again

Westfield is the staff full of coaches with experience running 6A programs, I believe. South County has had plenty of talent too. To put all of their success on coaching sounds like.....a coach’s opinion. Grow up. Now if Lake Braddock cannot beat these teams in 2020 (God willing) with the talent they have and the circumstances favoring established staffs with returning starters- then they will deserve any and all criticism.

Bottom line is no one knows for sure. Everyone is lobbying hard for their respective interests so if you want sports you have to push not just the VHSL but your local and state politicians as well. If the lockdown folks are the only people they are hearing from we will never leave Phase 3.

Dr. Haun stressed that they are thinking “out of the box” just in case the fall season gets pushed back too far by the Covid-19 restrictions. This model, while informative, is by no means a proposal.

The only viable option is to move to create a new schedule. Move fall sports to the late winter/early spring. Another option would be to move spring sports to the fall. Spring sports fit the current climate better than football and volleyball. Start sports Sept 1 or Oct 1 and get what you can. Start winter sports in January. Then fall sports in late March. Everyone wins.

How does everyone lose when in my suggestion everyone plays. All seasons would play just at a different time. There needs to be out of the box thinking. Keeping status quo someone will most likely not play. The article discusses a VHSL idea where sports would all be moved to end of the school year, and seasons would overlap. Would you force athletes to choose?

The season will be pushed back. But, they will hopefully be able to play. There is no way possible that sports are played this fall with the school schedules that are being illustrated as options.

VHSL is laying the groundwork for no sports this fall. It only makes sense based on what is happening with covid-19 and how schools will be operating this fall. Everyone gets to play, maybe at a different time of year, but all sports will be played. Keep in mind, that is the best case scenario, in my opinion.

You are thinking INSIDE THE BOX. If there are no sports this fall - THERE WILL ALSO BE NO SPORTS IN THE WINTER OR SPRING.

What could possibly be different in December/January or March/April than now? Absolutely nothing. By not pushing for sports this fall you are pushing for no sports this entire school year.

Some public school systems in VA, NC, SC, NY and Mass are looking into having rising junior/senior athletes sit out the entire school year and start their junior/senior year in the fall of 2021. Reclassification will be based on age, grades and other factors, to determine who can qualify. Parents can petition the school system to see if their student qualify.

It sounds like the makings of a good plan, its done at the private schools all the time.

The coaches can with meet with the players for conditioning and give them direction. Nothing wrong with the players doing 7v7 and getting some practice time in, the coaches are only watching they are not coaching. A lot of teams are just filming the workouts so the coaches can see what they are doing and then give direction.

2020 Concorde District Rankings High/Lowest possible record

(No Particular Order)(High represents the highest record the team can get realistically. High doesn’t mean rankings for the entire district just represents the team record itself.)(Low= Vice Versa)
1. Westfield High (9-1) Low (7-3)
2. Madison High (8-2) Low (6-4)
3. Chantilly High (8-2) Low (7-3)
4. Centreville High (7-3) Low (5-5)
5. Oakton High (4-6) Low (2-8)

Realistic 2020 Concorde District Rankings Prediction

1. Westfield (8-2) (Losses to Lake Braddock, Upset Team) A strong Lake Braddock team that finally gets over the hump and hands Westfield a loss on the year. (For complexity purposes i’ll make the team Unity Reed that defeats Westfield but any team on the schedule thats strong enough could hand the Bulldogs a second loss). Despite the record prediction it doesn’t guarantee a Westfield title as schools like Madison High School also have a good chance at upsetting the Bulldogs this year leaving the district wide open.

2. Madison (6-4) (Losses to Stone Bridge, South County, Robinson, Westfield) Madison’s upset loss is against Robinson. All the while Madison could beat Westfield which is a really good possibility this year making Madison a contender for the District. If Madison can pull off a win against Westfield the district becomes wide open for Chantilly, Centreville, and Madison to win a district title.

3. Chantilly (7-3) (Losses to Westfield, Madison, Centreville) Chantilly has a very good possibility to beat Centreville for the second year in a row and start their own win streak after breaking the 9 year losing streak this past season. Despite their losses from Seniors, Chantilly is also a contender for the district title despite what others believe.

4. Centreville (6-4) (Losses to Westfield, Madison, Mount Vernon, Stone Bridge) Again Centreville has a good chance to lose to Chantilly for the second year in a row. All the while they could have their own win flip by beating Mount Vernon and finish the season (7-3 or 6-4) Centreville is also a contender for the district championship.

5. Oakton (3-7) (Beats Langley, Fairfax, West Potomac) Oakton’s upset win is against West Potomac. Oakton could have another upset win this season against Woodson and finishing the year with a record of (4-6)

These predictions are way early yet fun to think about. Of course more accurate predictions will come as the season gets closer and we’ll be able to see how each team is doing. Hopefully a season does indeed happen.

Not a bad first read. Westfield will go 10-0 again. Definitely will be Region/State contenders. Madison/Centreville strong 2nd. I don't see Chantilly doing much.

I want to play football as much as the next person, but how on earth can FCPS allow tackle football to go on if they are mandating 6ft of distance in the classroom and on the school bus. Until those restrictions go away and all students who want to be at school can be there every day I see no way this School Board allows tackle football. Maybe a few sports with no contact but definitely not football and basketball type sports. If those sports are out where's the money coming from to pay for the other sports. Feel bad for the kids.

The 6ft rule is what should be abolished. It's arbitrary. Likewise I have seen no evidence that this virus is spread easily outdoors. Outdoor sports should not have any restrictions. Part of this hysteria is the belief that inhaling 1 breath of virus-laden air will cause an infection. Not demonstrably true. Look up viral load.

Westfield coming in with 7 wins at the least? Seems generous. They are losing A LOT. I think all the out of county schools can beat them. (Stonewall, Champe & Battlefield) No idea what the hell to expect from Westfield this year. Don’t they have a new coach? They are scrimmaging MV this year, as opposed to a WCAC or Quince Orchard, which tells me they are not going to be very good this year.

I think everyone including Westfield and South County knows this is the year for Doc and the Bruins
All the coaches that have bad mouthed Doc will get their payback. Look for double digit wins in almost all games.

There is a new sheriff in town and his name is......DOC

What is Doc's best win at LB? I don't think he's beaten anyone with equal or better talent than he has had. When you can get a few wins you don't deserve, that's when you know you have a good coaching staff.
