There has been talk of moving TC Williams Lake Braddock and Robinson to the Concorde. That would put all the largest schools in the same district. Moving Oakton and South Lakes to the Patriot. Marshall to the Liberty. Seems reasonable.

I am sure Westfield would vote that down, Simmons doesn't want to be playing Doc and the boys for the district title every year. Think about it, LB has had 3- 4 D1 players the past 3 years and with Doc's and staff coaching they will have a lot more in the coming years

Please, you are just making a fool of yourself to think that Westfield would be scared to play Braddock or any other team. They have beaten Braddock pretty bad the last 4 years and I dont see that changing in the next 4. With all the D1 players they have had, how come they cant win a regional or a state title? Coaching is the key, Westfield has the best staff, that's why win consistently.

Don’t conference champs get an automatic bid into the playoffs? Why would any of those liberty school get to be in. District 1 is easily the toughest group.

Conference champs do not get an automatic bid into the playoffs, all teams are seeded.

Mt Vernon or Hayfield will play 7 games in the district and could schedule 3 games against the Liberty district and will be 10-0 or 9-1 and both could be a top 3-4 seed for the playoffs.
The winner of FC and Justice game will make the playoffs as well. They will lose to Mt Vernon and Hayfield and play an easy out of district schedule and be 6-4, 7-3.
So basically you will have 3-4 District 2 teams in the playoffs.
So the rest of that region would be SoCo, LB, and the rest playing for the last 2-3 playoff spots.

The Concorde is toughest per usual although as many as 5 teams will make the playoffs for that region.

The districts won't matter that much when the VHSL goes to four divisions.
Then both regions will be combined into 1 region with only 8 teams making the playoffs.
Until then the 6C districts will be lopsided but I've heard they agreed to mini districts for football only with some cross scheduling between districts 1&2 to balence it out.

Grouping schools just by size is about the last reason they would make this move. It is more about rivalries and travel distances. And it does not help the weaker or smaller schools to just play similar programs, since they will not get better as easily.

Most of the smaller schools don't want to get better. They want to avoid being embarrassed. They would gladly go 9-1 or 8-2, get into the playoffs, then get crushed. Rather than take two or three beatings during the regular season and lose any since of success. Look at falls Church, Justice, Marshall. They've all improved their regular season records by playing no one and are still just as awful against the good teams.

Personally I bet on soccer on this platform https://www.m-trends.org. My purpose is not to make publicity on this website, but to find some guys that are kind of experts in football betting. The idea is that I want to create a discord with people that are betting on different sports, so we can share our experience and statistics in order to increase each others income.

Maryland just reversed course and are starting football October 7th I believe. Of course, VA is one of 10 (LIBERAL) states that won’t be playing this fall. It’s ridiculous. I feel bad for the kids.

Sometimes VA follows what MD does a week or so later. Hopefully this will be one of those things.

If the VHSL changes their plans to open up fall sports in the fall it would not be good for FCPS athletes. There is a 0% chance that the softies at gatehouse would allow athletics anytime soon. We'll be lucky to play in February. Currently FCPS is allowing some workouts to take place completely outside with numerous restrictions. Nothing remotely close to.competition. Hopefully, by the spring parents are so fed up FCPS is forced to play.

The Governor of Virginia and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.
No way they play football anytime soon, in the state of Va.
First and foremost should be safety, our children have to be protected, if that means no sports, then that's what it is.

Maybe these football players should be taking this time to work on their grades or learn a new language, be productive. When it is safe to resume sports in this state, the Governor will let everyone know. Be patient!

43 states played HS football tonight. No states have reported massive outbreaks or serious illness from football. The real world evidence suggests that with simple precautions and regulations HS sports, including football, can be played. THERE IS NO DATA THAT SUGGESTS OTHERWISE. Lastly, many of these kids have dreamed their whole lives about playing for their HS team and worked their tails off to prepare for this opportunity. They will have lots of years ahead to learn a language, or in your words be productive. This is their one opportunity to play out their dreams and we are requiring them to be patient. We're lucky they haven't revolted

I’m sitting here watching a HS from FL on ESPN playing a HS from TN. If they can travel that far, surely Centreville can travel across the county to West Potomac. Look at the stats, 99.997% survival rate ages 1-19. This is political. Northam got “the virus” today to stop Trump from rallying in Newport News. Same thing the OH Governor did.

At the end of the day, it just hurts the kids. It can be done safely. Yes, FCPS won’t be playing anytime soon. I’d be surprised if they play any sport before 2025. This is the same county that just paid some black guy $20K to give a 45 minute speech on how oppressed he is. But I digress. HS football should be played & it should be played now. Any kids that are good (w/o college scholarship) should transfer (legally/illegally) to a school in MD where they at least got it right. Shame on VUSL & FCPS.

This absurd non-scientific and irrational fear of this virus is crippling common sense. People would sooner live in a permanent COVID-19 prison that live a virtually risk-free life. Has anyone actually bothered to look at the data? I think not. It's all fear all the time and based on hysteria. We are being controlled by the equivalent of 21st century witch-doctors.

In the meantime, my brother's kid has played in 1 scrimmage and 3 games in Pennsylvania. In fact, their high school has all their usual fall sports boys and girls. Have they had a single football player or coach test positive? Not to anyone's knowledge.

Let the people decide for themselves. If you are high risk or afraid - stay home!!!!!!!!! No one is visiting grandpa and grandma anyway. Send the kids back to school. They are at virtually zero risk. And guess what - they can STILL NOT visit grandma and grandpa. The only difference will be they are going to school.

Everyone says its safe to play football right now in Virginia, then why are teachers in FCPS afraid to go back to the classroom? They all pushed for virtual learning and pitched a fit when the parents were given options for classroom or virtual. There is more to think about then little Johnny's high school football career. Safety should be the number 1 priority and the teachers know what's best.

Half of FCPS teachers have no issue coming back tomorrow. They stated so in their survey. The other half has concerns. Most of those concerns stem from their own personal health or in inability of schools to enforce safety precautions on students who physically or behaviorally cannot follow the rules. On top of that they are in a crowded space inside.
Football is a voluntary activity held outdoors. Those who do not follow the proper procedures can be removed immediately and people with health concerns do not have to participate. Equating the two is illogical and stating that there aren't teachers willing to work in person is fact out incorrect.

It stinks. Yep. But VHSL isn’t to blame. They are only following the state leader and his leadership committee.

The question I am asking is when HS sports start back up, will spectators be able to attend the games? No directive has been given to spectators, marching bands, cheerleaders, dance teams, game staff, etc. All these groups count against the # allowed in events, which I think is a total of 250. Anybody have any knowledge about this?

Here again is more unscientific witch-doctor stuff. Where did the magic number of 250 come from? Outside. Someone "felt" that was a good idea. In the meantime, I know sporting venues that had unmasked crowds of 5-10K people in the grandstands every week all summer (in Pennsylvania). No COVID-19 problem. It's all witchery. Stick a bone in your nose and light some incense. Just as rational as our witch doctor health departments.

I have no insight into how many spectators VHSL will allow once sports return. I can't imagine they won't allow any at all but it could be limited. In Pennsylvania at my nephew's games it is limited - pretty low number - can't remember offhand (and yes, they do have band and cheerleaders at the game with some restrictions). However, that may change since Pennsylvania's COVID regulations have been ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge. Basically at this point the PA schools can do whatever they want. But this past Friday most school districts still limited fans but that very well may change for many of them going forward. I see Maryland is also reversing course and will proceed with fall sports. No reason why VHSL should not do the same. Immediately.

There is no reason to lift the restrictions at this time. It doesn't matter what other states are doing, we are in a health crisis and our children's health is at risk. When the schools are opened up and the teachers and students are all back in the classroom full time, then sports can continue, not anytime before!

Just because there are a few who think football should be a priority in school, doesn't mean you should risk the many, whose health would be at risk.

I understand your fear but I reject your unfounded assertion that there is "no reason" to lift restrictions. How many years are you willing to live in a covid prison? 5 Years? 10 Years? Forever? I think most reasonable people are willing to accept the very small risk (with appropriate safety measures) in exchange for not living in a covid prison. You can't lock up everyone forever because some people are "concerned."

The data is out there. Playing sports and opening schools is not a cause of any significant spread of the virus. I know a sports association in Pennsylvania with about 120 schools. They have now completed 3 weeks of sports (4 if you count the scrimmage week). I am unaware of a single case of covid connected to fall high school sports, whether player, coach, officials, fans- anyone. Very few teams have had to cancel games because of covid cases, and in all cases it is basically a single person tested positive, totally unconnected to the sport itself. I think we can say as of today there has been zero spread of covid due to resumption of fall sports. But you are concerned so fuck the data.

Public policy should always follow the data. The data in this situation says that the risk is low and people should be given the choice on whether or not they want to expose themselves to the limited risk. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT THE LIMITED RISK DO NOT PARTICIPATE. If the data showed that significant community spread was occuring from these activities then it would be wise to shut them down, but that is not the case.
I was very much in favor of the state shutting down HS sports in the spring and summer. We simply didn't know how the virus would spread. Since then our state has allowed countless sporting activities to occur on the youth level and dozens of other states have played HS sports. The data shows that there has been no significant community spread from these activities. You cannot claim to be a rational and reasonable person if you only act on the data that fits your narrative.

Ok, so all this data you are referring to, says its safe to play football, but not safe enough for the teachers and students to go back in the classroom? Sounds like this so called data was collected by football people.

Its sounds like people want to risk the health of the communities for a few games. This is high school football, students health and education must come first.

I think the Governor is doing the right thing by keeping sports shut down until spring.

Again, when the teachers and students can return safely to the classroom, that's when high school football can begin.

There are numerous recent studies that show both can be done safely. Several studies were mentioned in a Post article this week. This is not about football, but rather human development. School and extra curricular activities play a huge role in the development of our youth. We are hurting their futures to satisfy irrational fear.

Because of the same reason - irrational fear.

Even the Washington Post has conceded the fear was irrational:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/feared-covid-outbreaks-in-schools-yet-to-arrive-early-data-shows/2020/09/23/0509bb84-fd22-11ea-b555-4d71a9254f4b_story.html

Just be honest, if you are afraid now you will be afraid this coming spring. If you are afraid this coming spring you will be afraid next fall. Nothing is going to change.

So my brother got to watch another high school football game in PA last night (in person). 5th game of the season + a scrimmage. School is playing all fall sports too. Daughter is playing soccer. Yep, 5th week of the season and still not a single documented case of covid among any of the school's teams - players, coaches, etc. Sure, there are cases here and there about the 120 school league - but it is definitely not causing a significant spread of the virus and certainly nothing alarming. To reasonable people anyway. Virginia could and should be doing the same. Get back to school, wash your hands, social distance, wear masks when needed. Life goes on. Can't hide forever. Other states are doing it.

Spring football schedules are out. First practice will be 1st week of February. We could see some games played in the snow, how great would that be.

I think we all agree Lake Braddock will be the favorite to win the north this season. We have 5-6 scholarship players on the team this year, with the best QB in the state. Doc and staff are ready to get this thing going.
Jump on the Bruins train now, before we roll past you.

You won't see anything. IF, they even play games, their will not be spectators in attendance. And as far as playing in the snow...doubt it. The County does not have the money to pay to clear the fields, sidelines and all the sidewalks in order to make it safe to play games in the snow.

Listen up folks. You need to start putting pressure on your school board members, county supervisors, everybody. The Fairfax Teachers Association came out today and they are starting a full court press to stop any school from re-opening even partially until August 2020. As a part of this they are adamant that there be no sports as well. They specifically denounced the PRIVATE sports that went on this summer and fall.

Why? The rest of the country had regular high school sports and it was NOT A PROBLEM.

Wisconsin did a study of kids playing fall sports. They traced where the infected kids contracted Covid. There were 16,000 practices and 4,000 games. They found ONE KID who actually caught the disease during sports activity.

Just stay home if it doesn't work for you.

If you are starting college work outs in the summer, you are not playing Spring ball. So, the best players will sit out. It may be spring ball but the best 4-6 players on the top ten teams will be sitting out. It will be watered down. YOu think college coaches of signed or almost signed players will want them playing spring ball?

The back up QB at Lake Braddock is as good or better right now, then the QB going to ODU. He already has offers for football and basketball and has yet to play a game on varsity football.

Doc and staff continue working that magic coaching them up and then getting them scholarships. Doc has had more D1 players then any of the other coaches in the area combined.

Here are some facts for you to ponder:

Best Offense, with the top QB and receiver in state....check
Best Defense, with a few of the top LB, DBs and DL in the state.....check
Best Coaching Staff, with Doc being the best coach in the state.....check

I think you can smelllllllllll what the Doc is cooking! State Champs

Will FCPS follow Arlington and Richmond public schools and forgo winter sports in 2020-2021? If so, are spring sports in 2021 in jeopardy as well? There are a lot of naysayers that say HS football should not be played in the spring. Until it is safe enough where the students can go back to in-school learning and not just a few selected groups, all sports will likely be cancelled.

Its very likely that no one will be playing any sports until late 2021, the President elect Joe Biden's, Task Force on the Corona Virus are planning to shut down the country for 4-6 weeks, shortly after Inauguration day. If this is the case all activities will be cancelled. They feel this is the safest way to get this 2nd wave of the Virus under control. As we come back out of the shut down, probably sometime in early April, the vaccine will be ready for distribution to the masses.

You may want to think about completing Basic English/Writing classes, instead of worrying about whether there is going to be a football season. Do they even teach basic skills in the 757?

Schedules are in place and at least some teams are conducting some level of workouts, but whether or not they play is totally up in the air. I suspect the coaches and admins have been instructed to keep quiet. It is just too early to tell given the explosion with Covid that is only going to get worse.

Yes, some teams are doing limited workouts, per FCPS rules and some teams probably doing a lot more.

Pennsylvania is having their state championships this week. Got the below report from PA. Virginia sucks. Be ashamed VHSL.

In the end the bulk of high schools in PA did play football. The public schools in District 12 (Philadelphia) did not play, but the Philadelphia Catholic League (18 schools in District 12) did eventually reverse course and start late. That's how St. Joe's got into the 6A finals after a 4 game regular season. District 11, which has some good teams in the Lehigh Valley, chose not to enter the PIAA playoffs and ended the season with district champions. District 8 (Pittsburgh) also reversed course and started late but did not enter the PIAA playoffs either. There were a handful of District 1 (suburban Philadelphia) schools that did not play. A couple WPIAL schools didn't play either, but most of the state did play. No question the PIAA playoffs are a bit watered down this year. The class most affected is actually 6A because so many of the large Philadelphia schools didn't play- but St. Joe's was going to win it all anyway...

1A Jeannette vs. Steelton-Highspire (Fri 11am)
2A Wilmington vs. Southern Columbia (Sat 11am)
3A Central Valley vs. Wyomissing (Fri 3:30pm)
4A Thomas Jefferson vs. Jersey Shore (Sat 3:30pm)
5A Pine-Richland vs. Erie Cathedral Prep (Fri 8pm)
6A St. Joseph's vs. Central York (Sat 8pm)

Lets face it, high school sports in FCPS are most likely not happening until mid April, if even then.

If coaches want their sport played and they are a teacher, then they should be required to teach in school, not online. If its too dangerous for them to teach in school, or students are not allowed in the building, I just cant see them allowing sports.

There may be time for short seasons for baseball, soccer and lacrosse, since their season's were cancelled last year. Other then that, I cant imagine any other scenario's where other sports will be played.

Coashes are not the ones holding out on coming back to teach. Most of them are already in the building all day and working with kids after school.
Without a change next week FCPS is set to start winter athletics on the 7th of December.

Elections have consequences. Should be zero surprise what’s going on here. Forget about VHSL or who runs the schools for fairfax county. The state wants everyone home. It will be a year in March and the restrictions will continue likely until 2022. They don’t care about sports, not even on their radar. The states that played were battleground states so that’s why PA played along with all other battleground states. It’s sad and horrible what the kids are going through. With no pressure politically there won’t be any sports, band, plays, etc...

It sounds like the coaches are with the teachers and not wanting to be in the building to teach, only to coach. It is what it is, if its unsafe to be in the building, it unsafe to play sports.

I am sure the coaches dont want to risk bringing this virus home to their families. Maybe the coaches can figure out how to coach online from the comforts of their homes, since its unsafe to be in school. Isn't PE is being taught online?

Read it and weep (literally). The unspeakable cruelty that has been inflicted on Virginia young folks by people scared out of their mind for no reason is so sad. I hope as these kids get older they will be jaded, cynical and perhaps try to think past what the little screens in front of their eyes are telling them to think.

The Lake Braddock QB decommitted from ODU and is headed for the big time. It could be Alabama, Vanderbilt, Syracuse or Wake Forrest. He is obviously the best QB in the state and has shunned the schools in VA for big time college programs. I think this will better prepare him for the NFL. Doc and staff have done a terrific job getting him ready for the big time and cant wait to watch him on Saturdays.
