High School Football 2020

Let's get this thing started.

Who are the leading c/o 21 recruits?

Any predictions for Coaching changes?

Who had the TOP JV program that will create the surprise team in 2021?

Will the same Top Teams be playing for their Regional Titles again in 2021?

Is anyone Bold enough to put out a 2021 Ranking for Region C & Region D?

SoCo if they win the state this year, Pannoni will probably retire. a lot of applicants for this one.
Annandale they were 0-10 and haven't been much better the past few seasons. time for a change?
Robinson made the playoffs but have struggled to keep up with the better teams. I think they make a change this year
Woodson AD usually runs coaching staffs off after then 2-3 years. who wants to deal with him?
Langley Open. not sure of the applicants
Lee made the playoffs at 2-8 does anyone really want that position?
Hayfield they won the district for last 3-4 year Henderson should get another year
West Potomac has a lot of talent but has struggle the past few years, time for a change?

If the SC job does come open, that would be a top 5 job in the state. They would have their pick from a great pool of candidates. With the exception of Robinson and maybe West Pot, the rest of those HC positions, no one would really want. Any HC with experience will stay away from those. For a new HC, it would be the kiss death.

Who's getting the Woodbridge job? It should be a pretty attractive job from the standpoint of talent available to build a top program, right?

It's going to be a long, sad bus ride bach to NorthernVA. This is going be TOO big for a team that has never experienced being smacked around by Smith. Y'll need only to watch their game vs C. Forge to know that even their smallest player, cleaned their clocks and with a clean tackle which jolted the ball out at least twice!

Someone was stupid enough to post racist tweets this week on some of Smith player's twitter account. Dumb move; those Silver Backs are coming after y'all!!!

Get ready to get beat up today. I feel sorry for SoCo!!!

Oscar Smith will lose. Just like the nuggets from Atlanta vs GOAT Tom Brady & company.
Today’s game will be like “remember the Titans”without the nigger players.

Just another win.

Also, ironic the schools(Maury and Oscar Smith)are named after people that wanted to integrate schools.

Starting from the bottom will be easier
13. Langley
Losing QB and RB #22 who had over 5000 career yards of offense and their coach
12. Herndon
Pitiful program. Losing WR #11
11. Wakefield
Losing QB and RB #33. Receiver #21 will be a really good player if they can get someone to throw him the ball
10. Oakton
Getting better year after year but suffers from playing in the hardest district
9. Chantilly
2019 was their year but they failed to win a playoff game. Losing lots of their core from last season, don’t know who will be a difference maker next year.
8. Marshall
Don’t really know much about this team. Losing WR #17
7. Yorktown
Losing lots of talent, especially at the QB position. WR #11 might look to transfer if there is no one at YT to get him the ball
6. McLean
Loses WR #13 but keeps lots of their talent, especially QB and RB. Look for them to extend the streak against Langley for the next few years
BIG DROP OFF and longer write ups
5. W&L
Loses RB/LB #28 but keeps QB and lots of skill position guys. If they can get someone to block for the QB he will have a good season with some serviceable weapons. Look for big years from QB, WR/DB #8, UTL #9, and WR/DB #7
4. South Lakes
Loses WR #1, TE/DE #11, and RB #28. Keeps QB and WR #9 who will have good years and keeps their best defensive player NT #55 who was all-region. Always a well coached team who will stay in most games. Suffers from playing an easy schedule
Teams that will contend for region title
3. Madison
Loses QB LB #20 and loads of other talent. Keeps WR #29 and RB #1. Fell short of a rematch with Westfield this year. Will always have big boys up front blocking, but I’m a little worried about their QB situation. JV went 9-0 though so there will be some talent moving up to Varsity.
2. Westfield
Loses QB, DE #2, WR #17, DL #99, LB #26, and lots of other all region talent. RB #28 will be the best player in NOVA by his senior season, competing for that title right now with SOCO #10 WR. WR #15 will also be good if someone can get him the ball. They still have the best staff in NoVa and will always be able to stay with teams that are above their talent level (See SOCO game this year).
1. Centreville
Loses UTL and K/P #8 and DB #4. Keeps QB and WR #12 are both gonna be the best WR in the region. Centreville will be the team to beat in my opinion next year. They return their best player and their QB who will vastly improved with a year of experience and a whole offseason to train under his belt. Never like to bet against Westfield but Noah Kim will be at MSU next year, which blows the door open for next year.

I fully expect these rankings to be nowhere near the rankings by the end of the year next year but it was fun writing this. Overall, it should be an interesting season and I am excited for it

I Meant to say that CVille QB and WR #12 will both be the best players at their position, not that they will both be the best WRs.

Chantilly isn't going to fall off that much. There is a lot of excitement about that program and everyone has bought into Coach Curry. They will be a solid playoff team again next season. And everyone knows that the Westfield RB is transferring to the WCAC. You can't get P5 offers playing at Westfield.

Are you that stupid or just a troll?
You guys suck and bought into your own hype. The best part of your team is gone next year. Big OL and backfield and QB. You guys will be battling Oakton for last place in your district. You’re about to go into next year with a QB who’s played flag football his whole life. Good luck with that. Slow footed weak arm. No speed anywhere, not at everyone or wr. Maybe the kid who left and reclassed will comeback as a 19yr old senior. You guys stink.

Asante- UNC also offers from 30+ P5 schools
Morin- Wake Forest
Delaney- UVA
Kim- MSU & VT
Royster- PSU
S Glennon- VT
M Glennon- NCST
Royal- VT
D Davis- ‘Cuse
Come again...?

You see what the LB staff did with very limited talent they had this year.
I think it pretty clear that Doc and Lake Braddock will be the top team in 2020.
They have the best staff, QB and receiver in the state returning.

Jump on the Bruin Train now or you will get run over

Braddock will always do decent in the regular season, but when it comes playoff time they will collapse. No signature wins under doc and there never will be. Soft coaching and soft players will prevent them from ever winning anything meaningful.

LB will lose to Soco & WF. Lose in the 1st round as per usual.
WF won’t fall off as bad as everyone thinks.
Yorktown will tho. 5-5 season coming up.
Spalding probably stays. He plays LAX & Soco is solid at LAX. He’ll be able to get major offers at Soco. If he does transfer, it’ll be WCAC.

Way to early to tell but based on what is coming back and what is coming up, SOCO could be tough again. Yorktown is losing QB and many others. ROBO could be better if they can further develop their passing game. WF will be tough again but a down year for them, 8-2.

In terms of coaches -

Lets hope that Pannoni does not retire. if he does there will be many applicants for this one but should go to one of the quality assistant coaches, no telling what the assclown DSA would to.

Annandale is time for a change but is tough for anyone to win there

Langley is open, this could be a decent job for the right person, we'll see

Hayfield should replace Crooked Henderson as quickly as possible, multitude of problems, not just wins and losses, DSA should do what is right, NOW.

West Potomac should replace big boy ASAP. Real winner of a DSA, lol

Interested in what’s in store for wshs

Parker has the job now so that’s solidified

Certainly the team did play well this year and it felt like they really took the reins off and opened up the offense

Overall the offense was much more productive than the last couple years

But how do they far now that there’s tape on the way Parker coaches versus Eldridge

They’ll lose Muskett to graduation so who will play QB

Bigger question is going to be the same question each year though

Can wshs finally break through and get one or two signature wins

I think they’re good for 5/6 wins depending on the squads depth and the schedule but if they’re going to make some noise then they’ve gotta be able to take one or two of the following four (Robo/Braddock/Soco/whatever other big boy team they play that season)

I think the programs in good hands and it’s stable enough to be 6-4/7-3 more often than not but at some point they’ve gotta figure out how to make the next step which given the limited talent is hard

Also, Pannoni is definitely retiring, good way to go out though

Interesting enough WSHS lost to soco/Lb/ROBO all by 2 scores. Doubtful they’ll be over to get over that hump next year. The schedule is the same as this year, just flipped. They could potentially also lose to SL/TC and finish 5-5.

When is VHSL going to move the State Championship back to UVA? Hampton is 2nd time compared to UVA. (A lot more ghetto too) It also gives all the 757 teams a home field advantage.

Yea that’s what I figure wshs is good for 5-5/6-4 consistently but without a couple superstar players every so often they don’t go beyond that

The issue is parents and boosters thinking they should be better and not realizing that most of the talent has siphoned off to LB or Soco

That said Parker has to do really bad for a couple of years to get replaced or Muir would move on and a new DSA with different expectations

And I’m not trying to say it’s a bad gig just tough since you want to be more successful for the kids and school culture but in your head/heart you know that you’re probably just a just good enough team but not a good potentially great team

I don’t believe west Springfield is as far off as some seem to. The defense is the problem. They’ve been bad for several years, giving up 40+ several times. Did Parker bring a new defensive staff?

WSHS is back to the end of the line without Musket. Kid was better than 75% of QB’s out there. You're gonna miss him and his playmaking ability. 4-6 if you’re lucky beast bet on 3-7. Offense will score 9pts a game next season.

My source is a highly-placed county official. Don't shoot the messenger. Ross is a goner. He "resigned" but may have been asked to do so.

I actually think he is a good coach.....things just didn't work out the past two seasons.

Ross is a good coach. West Pot was always strong on offense when healthy, but struggled on D. Ross ran the offense but never got someone to get it done for him on D. Would be a good HC hire somewhere else or a great OC hire at any school.

Was he a good Offensive coach; maybe, but a terrible Head Coach. How many times did he argue a call not going his way? He spent most of his tenure on the field yelling at referees. The last two season wasn't because of the injuries to players but the lack of coaching! In the first three seasons of his texture went on to be successful. His first 3-years, he had a lot of talent but never had discipline on and off the field. The last two seasons, the team went 7-14 losing to teams like Mt Vernon twice, Marshall and Annandale. As a former player, Coach Ross never had any game management. Sure, he’d probably be a good coordinator but not as a Head Coach

He seems like a good guy, but he does argue to much with the officials and that's not going to set very well with a lot of DSAs. Not sure how well he would fit as Coordinator, he seems like he wants to run the whole show.If he does get hired as a Coordinator, he would need to be up in the box, so he wouldn't get penalties.

West Pot always has a lot of very good athletes and Ross got very little in return from them. Maybe he should apply at Langley and see if he could make a go at that.

Aziz is the perfect candidate for WP. It’s a very similar demographic but with more players and better talent. He has won at a school where nobody expected him to be able to compete. If and when he leaves FC never is above 500 again.

Who wants it? You do not get anything extra but a stipend. You work 12 months straight - all summer. No days off From August to November. You teach a full course load. It is not like you get an extra 30,000 - 50,000 plus a year. The hours are horrible and expectations unrealistic with often administrators who never coached let alone run a big time varsity team.
This is not like coaching at Clemson, OSU, PSU... Coaches are making millions of dollars. What is the big attraction? Plus to have a bunch of pathetic losers get on this site and bash you. I would bet most of these idiots are the sloppy freshmen/JC coaches or the jealous former head coaches who want back in.
Oh yes PLEASE SIGN ME UP FOR THAT! Please, please let me be the head coach of West Potomac, Hayfield, Langley,... For what? To hear a bunch of snotty nose millennials who coach the freshmen team or jv team bash you. Please explain to me the big attraction being the head coach at Langley or West Potomac or anywhere?

5) Oakton, not gonna be as bad, but will win at max 4 games. Decent head coach and an alright qb who will be the star

4) Chantilly, Lost ALOT, and yes I mean a lot. 24 and 13 will return on defense, 21 on offense, that’s about it. hope chantilly fans enjoyed your 1 pathetic year

3) Westfield, Great coaching but I’m not sure about the QB position, 28 will transfer out, 15 will be the only threat on offense, but will have a solid defense. But you never know with Westfield they could always get some transfers and contend, just with the talent right now, they can’t hang with cville and Madison

2) Centreville, 4 8 and 20 will be gone but have a good core around 12, QB is fucking awful, but he will have people to chuck the ball up too, but could see a region finals appearance

1) Madison, I’ll give them the #1 spot because they will be prepared because of their schedule, they lost a lot on defense, but only 12 on offense. They had a bunch of juniors on defense, but whole offense was juniors and sophomores. Great coaching will win them the region and face against LB or SoCo in state semis, don’t think they can hang with the 757 though.

High Cost of living does not off set the extra salary and the stress of trying to rebuild a football program at a school where you are relying on a lot of single parent homes where sports are not a luxury not a priority.

With the right coach, WestPo should have a pretty high ceiling. Plenty of good athletes down route 1. What they are going to need is a coach that can instill some discipline. Of course that’s the issue all those Rt 1 schools have. With just a little discipline, MV would have smoked LB in their playoff game. But that’s apparently the trick. Can’t see a PWC coach or Aziz being able to crack that nut. Maybe a Westfield Asst or LC coach.

You must be smoking some of my mulch. Soco returns 7 starters on offense and 6 on defense. He's got a ton of talent on bot sides that can get them back to Oscar Smith, they will get crushed, but they'll get there. Sorry all you Doc Lovers you'll lose to Soco twice again next year, Braddock is too soft.

I think everyone will be favoring Doc and the Bruins in 2020 to win it all. They have gotten better every year under Doc and this program has really turned around.

They have Billy the top QB in in the state, Doc and staff the top coaches in the state. I just dont see anyone beating them this year.

Doc doesn't allow this sort of thing in his program. Docs players behave, they go to class and do not give teachers a hard time.

Soco has had quality QB's since Pannoni has been there. A freshman QB went 8-0 and played in varsity games. Another freshman started on JV. The varsity backup played RB and got reps until he broke his foot in practice week 9. They'll be fine with a bunch of returning players on both sides of the ball.

Yes, and the same kids he would bust his ass to help will take his program apart now. What a shame because Doc made a huge difference. It’s over, especially with nobody backing Doc. Assholes rule. Everyone knows about the sophomore locker room sexual assault case at LBSS but no one will step forward and validate the allegations with the police or tell Doc the truth? That’s messed up! I'm pretty sure winning games and getting his kids recruited are the least of his worries right about now. If you decide to bury not one, but several sexual assault cases that happened in your own locker rooms, I'm pretty sure the actual game of football is the last thing on his mind.

Some of the worst kids in that school played JV football at Lake Braddock this past season. Quit blaming coaches for their morons. Coach Doc can’t do brain surgery and he can’t turn an asshole into a leader either. How about blame someone else for that school’s problems? Where is the DSA and the principle anyway? Again Doc's people making excuses for Doc!

Schedule is too hard
Bad playoff draw
All the good players graduated
Not fair we have to play SoCo every year
Docs not responsible for how the players act, someone else is

The list goes on and on, its time for Doc and his people to put up or shut up!

In the last 3 years, he took a very good LB football program from a top 5-7 program in the state down to a now maybe a top 25 in the state.
Congrats on the regression!

Gary is good at reviving a program. WP is a hot mess that Gary can fix for a couple of years. He'll recruit the halls, Hayfield and Mount Vernon. Plus, he'll have Woodbridge parents drop off their kids on their way to work in DC. I wouldn't hire anyone else.

1 former and 1 current FFX county HC
1 current FFX county assistant

I dont know if that's big news. TC has always been one of those what if positions.

Everyone always says with the right coach, they could be great, I guess they haven't had the right coach in the last 20 years. Seems like they have a lot of really good athletes, but not enough dedication to win consistently in football in the past 20 years. Good luck to whoever gets this one

I am not sure what kind of pool of applications they will get, its big school, but not a top tier job in the state. I think maybe someone who is looking to move up a level, like a FC or Justice. Even though they play a Fairfax County schedule the athletic budget comes from the city of Alexandria and whatever fund raising the program does. That could play a big part in the job itself. I am curious, did the former coach get the West Pot job?

Doc is not going to leave LB, who would hire him, a lower tier program? He took a top tier program and turned it onto a mediocre program in the last 3 years. The only thing he did was make the players behave, oh wait.....they aren't doing that either!

He has more talent year in and year out then any team in this region. They had 10 players 2 years ago playing at the next level and will have about the same from last years team.

He is loaded again this year with talent, Edwards, James, Weidinger just to name a few. So stop making excuses for why Doc cant win the big games. Put any other coach in the region at LB and they will challenge SoCo, Westfield and anybody else to go to the state championship.

Soco just won a State Championship with nothing. Braddock's best player is going to Michigan, Soco's to Yale. Braddock's QB has D1 offers, Soco's is going to pay to play D3. It's about making the most of what you have. You can't say Doc has nothing.

Ok, you can’t really say Soco has “nothing”... They have a solid team on BOTH sides. That was just ignorant. LB has a solid team too. Yes, coaching is the difference. Doc is just a bad coach. Plain & simple. Hopefully Coach P takes the WP job and blows out Doc.

That's the point, coaching makes the difference.
Doc is a nice guy and the school seems to like him.
But, in the past 3 years, Doc's has shown that his coaching ability is limited.

To say Lake Braddock doesn't have enough talent to win against the SoCo's, Westfield's and Stone Bridge's is nothing but an excuse and is ridiculous!

Haddock sucks, he's lazy. The principal at Soco doesn't like him. Plus, he' got some baggage, he's been demoted a couple of times recently for being arrogant and selfish. Soco's assistants did all the work, they just need someone to come in and be they CEO, not be a jerk and alienate the players, school and community.

A few candidates for the SoCo job:

Davis from Westfield He was head coach at West Pot and Herndon, had some success at West Pot. I am sure he has learned a lot being on the Westfield staff

Fritz from Mt Vernon, has done well at Mt Vernon, good run in the playoffs this year. Seems to field competitive teams every year

Aziz from Falls Church, has done well at the lower level with Falls Church, made the playoffs in his first year at D6. Time for him to move up in competition.

Van Aker from Woodson, has done pretty well at Woodson, 2 years ago made a deep run in the playoffs. Also 1 of the few Patriot teams that has a winning record against SoCo in the past couple years

Taylor from Fairfax, has been around a few good programs, was at SoCo a few years ago. He can not be that happy at Fairfax

Doc from Lake Braddock, he cant beat them, so why not join them

I would imagine there will be a ton of applicants. Word is WestPo had something in the neighborhood of 50 applicants and SoCo is a much more attractive position. I’m sure every FCPS HC that wants out of their current job will apply. It will be interesting to see if Poythress is in the mix and rumor on here has it he already has his choice of WestPo and Hylton.

What about Henderson or Ross? I’m sure both would love to see what their offense could do with the mix of athletes and size SoCo has.

Will be interesting to watch to say the least!

Henderson or Ross - I dont know much about Ross but Henderson's offense produced a sterling 1-9 record. Nuff said. The real question is, how can he still have a job at Hayfield? Its not just that the team is horribly coached; he has obliterated the program at the school from all angles.

Anyone know Pannoni’s wishes? Seems they’d be best served keeping it in house in an attempt to keep the majority of the staff. After going undefeated, the community wouldn’t likely love to see a whole new group come in?

Is TC Williams really a sought after job?
I would think its more of a mid level type job, most likely the applicants will be HFCs from lower tier programs or assistants from mid level programs.

Do they even have lights on the field yet? I know they usually play their home games on Saturdays. Although, they played indoors at STJ on Friday nights, last year. Are they doing that again this year?

Too many what ifs for a mid level program for them to attract a sitting top level candidate.

The TC job is better than South County. 1000 Students in each grade level, 8th through 12th. Remember 8th graders can play freshman football. They have athletes that can compete with the 757. Just need someone who wants to work with kids who need an extra bit of attention. A sleeping giant that can compete with anyone in the state.

Oh please, that's ridiculous!!!

For years, people have been saying that TC is a sleeping giant and with the right coach, it could compete with anyone in the state. Well for the last 30 years it hasn't happened! They have probably had at least 8-10 coaches in that timeframe, all with various levels of success, but no where near dominate.

If and buts were candy and nuts, we would all have championship teams
TC's days of being a dominant force in the state are behind them.

Go watch Remember the Titans, the movie, because that's as close as they will get to another state championship

The problem with the TC coaches in the past was the 2.0 eligibility rule. It's not a as much of a factor now with re-takes and no one gets a zero anymore. The school is working with their students now to keep them on the field. The key to TC is 1-way players, it creates depth and competition. Every coach the past 30 years have gone the way of "get the best players on the field" and have them go both ways. That approach keeps participation low and then you can't discipline or absorb injuries. Look at Westfield, they have great numbers because they go 1-way.

While I agree with your comment on the 2.0 all the FCPS schools in their conference are not required to maintain a 2.0! They only have to pass 5 classes ( a full class kid is 7) to be eligible. So in Fairfax County a student with a 0.71 GPA will be eligible to play!

I dont think TCW is a top tier program. You will not get the better sitting coaches applying to this one. You will get the lower tier coaches, coaches who's contract were not renewed this year and coaches that want out of their current job that apply. South County is a top tier program, you will get some of the top sitting coaches and assistants from in and out of the state applying.

Didn't Woodbridge hire someone from Texas? WP hired an out of state coach as well.

Although, I am hearing Gary Wortham is the front runner for TCW, they too will be looking at out of state candidates.

I think that is a trend we may start to see, rather then hiring the retreads around here, DSAs and Principals may look outside the state. Im not saying its right or wrong, but looks like it may be going that way.

I think there are a lot more people applying to the SoCo position then people know. This is one of the top jobs in the state, so they will have candidates from out of the region and state apply.

I cant believe those are the favorites.

Lilly: couldn't win at Hylton, with all the talent he had.

Aziz: Big fish in a little pond syndrome, Like Doc, Job is to big for him.

Rolander: Has done well as an assistant, will they hire someone with no HC experience?

Van acker: Has done a good job at Woodson with little or no talent. Is he the right fit though? He does have a winning record against SoCo

Out of those 4 only 1 maybe 2 of those may get an interview, Rolander and maybe Van acker

TC, I heard Gary Wortham is the front runner, his job if he wants it. I am not sure a lot of others applied.

Coach RO should get tabbed as the next head coach at SOCO. He played at SOCO and after graduating college came on back to coach/teach there. He’s young, energetic, loves his players and they would run through a wall for him. My son had the opportunity to play for him and still holds him in high regards. When he is named head coach it will be much deserved and if the “ole boys club” has any weight in the outcome who gives a shit.

Coach Ro will keep one of the better coaching staff's intact. The others applying for the job will bring in their own staff's. Soco has been to the playoff's every year this staff has been together and just went 15-0. Kyle Simmons was handed the Westfield job and look what he's done. The key to winning football is a good staff not a head coach.

Why is the fix in? He was the best option. He keeps the current staff in place. They are defending State champs. You want to keep things the same. The players love him. He is already in a leadership role in the school. It’s a no brainer. Who deserved the job more...Haddock? Aziz? Come on, seriously. Look at the mess Centreville was left with after Haddock walked away. That was his doing, not Shields. Aziz isn’t ready for a big job. Mr. Woodbridge is a joke.

Big opportunity going to Rolander, he will find success. I wouldn’t have taken a chance on Haddock. Aziz would have been my go to. Could have been very successful after proving he can build a program and find success with less. Mr. Woodbridge had a lot of upside that could have been valuable only if he was willing to keep the current staff members in place. Overall I believe Ty can maintain and get the job done leading to a repeat. Im excited to see how Soco defends their thrown next season. Good luck to all.

Most people knew that this was most likely going to an assistant on the existing staff, so sounds like a lot of qualified people did not even apply. Rolander was the safe choice! He knows the players and will only need to make tweaks to make another run. Aziz only gets interviews because he checks the minority box, I think its been shown, no one will hire him to run a big time program. Haddock and Wortham have to much baggage, not sure why they were even interviewed.

Actually Rolander was the SoCo D coordinator prior to their current DC. Last season Coach Rolander was the Asst Head Coach and RB Coach. Although never let facts get in the way of a good story.

Rolander will have every opourunity to be successful. He has good assistants and more talent than anyone on his schedule. You have to ask yourself though, if Rolander was so good why did Panoni demote him? He obviously found someone better or needed someone better.
Being in charge of people is completely different than being a good employee. SoCo admin is banking that he can do it.
Word on the street is that they choose not to interview a few of the stronger candidates to make sure Rolander looked good in his interviews. I hope he does well, but SoCo is gambling when they could have taken a sure thing elsewhere.

Not sure who will win the Concorde, but with Pannoni gone from SC, Doc LB will easily win the Patriot. They should be the easy favorite to win the north region.
With Doc and staff at the helm, their All American QB will carve up all the defenses in the state.

Doc over-coached and has lost 4 games in the last 2 years to Soco. Pannoni coached the special teams only, with Rolander, so how does losing Pannoni hurt South County?

What kind of recruiting violations is South County comitting? How the hell did they amass enough talent to win states in football and about to in basketball. Are these the same kids on the basketball team as the football team? Do they actually live in the South County boundaries. What has made them so talented lately?

Juice and Johnny are spot on, according to my calculations. I believe they are using that white plastic tent like contraption beside the weight room to house these humanoids they call South County Athletes. I believe they are breeding them in this plastic tent using illegal substances and genes stolen from the dead bodies of Jim Brown and Wilt Chamberlain. There is something really suspicious going on in that alien tent, they call it the "bubble". It is enclosed with chain link fencing and access is strictly controlled. If you watch closely, just prior to football and basketball games, multiple players will emerge from this top secret structure in uniform looking as though they are ready to conquer the world. Some serious investigation needs to be done into this athletic "factory" they are running over there just outside the confines of the old Lorton Prison.

TCW continues to be an absolute joke. The AD lacks the wherewithal to successfully recruit/hire a coach. "NEW AD comes to ACPS from the Amateur Athletic Union, where he has served as the director of sports for more than a decade". That's what we need more AAU influence in interscholastic sports, NOT. TCW has the largest enrollment in the state and yet they are sub-par at best, at best that is. Maybe they should hire a football coach from Team Take Away, lol.

AD at TCW is second worst in the area behind SoCo. He woefully lacks the experience, knowledge and skills needed to be a successful leader. I do give him credit though, he is an awesome twitter cheerleader. Remember the titans.

LB had plenty of talent to beat both teams all these last three years. But coaching let the boys down. Call it what it is. Coaching was a let down down, particularly the offensive play calling.

That does make sense for Edwards, if football doesn’t happen this year. Either way it’s in his best interest to get the hell out of LB. He wouldn’t be a top 15 QB in the country though.

Poythress and Wortham were finalist. No comparison in accomplishments but G is minority. Poythress wins with panel and principal. Job goes to HR and the job reopens. TC loses out on the only guy who could have restored the luster.
Why? Could it be this website? Coach P took some shots here. Or is it FCPS HR? Would you rehire Coach P? You know how they answer. A guy who made 80 k a year just took down the leadership of a billions dollar budget. Fuck no we wouldnt hire him!
In the end, the kids lose out. Poythress will probably never coach again which is a shame since he was never accused much less convicted of anything. They set him up and he fought back.
TCNo school system does what is best for kids. They do what is political.

These rumblings of billy going to good council and reclassifying and brock spalding transferring to a wcac seem plausible. Im calling it that billy edwards will reclassify to a 2022 and transfer to good council with brock spaling. billy is a very young 2021 after all, should be a 2022 anyway. Great decision for both of them IMO, will get them greater exposure and better competition. Both could get power 5 offers with a strong year.

The Spaulding kid should go to LB and learn from the best, then he would get college offers too. Look at Max James, he has a number of college offers as well.

Spalding is literally in his Soph yr with 2 years of HS to go. He is still slightly undersized 5-10 175 but should be still growing and will get many offers whether he is at South County or where ever. He is that talented. James didn't have offers at this point(soph) in his HS career at LB. Basketball kids going to WCAC could give them an advantage if they are talented enough to actually make a WCAC roster and start. Football, public school kids get offers every day. Doesn't really matter in football. The real question is will there be a season next year and if yes a full season or partial?

Little WR that are under 6 feet better run a legit 4.4 or in their milestat for track run sub 10.8 100 meters for a D1 group of 5 take you seriously. Size does matter and Speed does too. By not going to camps this summer I doubt any legit D1 programs offer him. Too small and speed is "ok" but not great. He better run track next year and get some legit milestat times.
Considering his brother has not worked out at the college level at both WVU and JMU (I believe he is not on any of their rosters) He better grow like 5 inches or run legit 4,4.

Yes, spalding is too small for P5 schools. I went to an SEC school that got 2 commitments from 4 star receivers in the last 2 weeks. Both listed at 6’2 190. (And are black) Spakding will need to grow a little. He DOES have great hands, however. I can see him fitting in at a JMU or ECU, or something like that. Who the hell is Billy Edwards? Agree that a 4.4 separates some but the following are tough under 6 ft receivers that didn't run 4.4 D. Amendola 5-11 4.58,-- Wes Welker 5-9 4.65, --J. Edlemann 5-10 4.52, --A. Randle-el 5-9 4.54 All 4.5 and 4.6 range. I believe it's about route running. That's where the smaller receivers need to spend their time improving. I do agree the FCS schools will give them a chance to shine but as a coach you need both burners to stretch the field and tough great route runners with great hands to move the chains. Tony Dungy advised his scouts to leave that stop watch and trust your eyes. Does a guy make plays or not? That is his philosophy and mine. The GOAT Jerry Rice is taller than 6 ft but his 40 time was not impressive, trust your eyes!

Are you kidding me? Billy Edwards is one of the top QBs in the state with at least 20 plus D1 offers. You need to recognize LB will have at least 4-5 D1 players this year, if football happens this year, they will be State Champs!!!
Doc and staff have said, this is the best LB team ever!!

Best team ever....huh, right!

Tell that to these past Lake Braddock football teams:

1996
1999
2009
2010
2014
2016

All were very well coached and would have crushed any of the Lake Braddock teams in the past 3 years

I think there will be a school year and football season. At some point everyone will realize this slightly-more-severe-than-usual flu is not a significant health risk to most people. It's not going away, there will never be a "cure," a vaccine will be years off and not 100%. We need to learn to live with this virus and the sooner the better.

Major League Baseball study showed 70% of their infected employees were asymptomatic. That means 70% of the people infected had no symptoms that had them seeking ANY medical care. If you are under 70 years old and don't have a serious health problem you are not at risk of dying. That's the data. Let's have some FOOTBALL!!!

It has to be poor coaching!

With all the talent LB has, they should be a top 5 team team in the state and playing for a state title each year. The past 3 years they have had 3-4 D1 players each year and still couldn't win the district or the region. Again this year, they will have 5-6 D1 players and do nothing.

What did Doc bring to the LB program? Getting players to behave in school?
Apparently winning is not important in Doc's program, as long as you try hard, everyone will be a winner.

Not really. You should actually base your statements on facts, not the Washington Post. What VHSL said was, the phase 1 reopening of most of Virginia doesn’t mean HS teams can start their off-season. When the Governor allows further changes, the VHSL will re-evaluate.

In reality, what VHSL did was prevent the rest of the state to start off-season while Fairfax, Louden, PW, Arlington, and Alexandria are still on lockdown. Just trying to maintain fairness. If the entire state re-opened it is likely they would have allowed the off-season to go forward.

Again, check your facts next time.

No they shouldn't be on the FCPS fields, those will not officially open until tomorrow, 5/29. However, county park fields are open and they could be there in groups of 10 or less, and obviously without any FCPS coaches present, as per VHSL there is to be no off-season contact yet....

I have seen some coaches walk around the track and shout instructions to the players as their team works out on the field. This gives the players some direction and allows them to get a better structured workout with adult supervision.

VHSL created these potential return to football scenarios. At least in northern Virginia, the Football Coaches Committee is favoring Option D in all Scenarios.

Scenario #1
First Practice Date: September 1
First Contest Date: September 18 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: September 25 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A
Region Quarterfinals: November 14
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 8 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 7 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season.

Option B (Assumes top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 9 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 8 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Bringing only the top 4 teams into the playoffs opens additional week for regular season.
4. Maintains regular calendar dates for the post season.

Option C (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 8 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: November 21
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 9 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 8 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Moving region and state dates by one week later increases potential for inclement weather.
4. Maintains regular calendar dates for the post season.

Option D (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Moving region and state dates by one week later increases potential for inclement weather. Bringing only the top 4 teams into the playoffs opens additional week for regular season.
4. Maintains regular calendar dates for the post season.

Scenario #2
First Practice Date: September 15
First Contest Date: October 2 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: October 8 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A
Region Quarterfinals: November 14

State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 6 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 5 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season.

Option B (assumes top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 7 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 6 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season, sans region quarterfinals.
4. Creates additional week for regular season games.

Option C (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 8 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: November 21
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 7 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 6 traditional game dates

Option D (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

Scenario #3
First Practice Date: October 1
First Contest Date: October 19 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: October 24 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A
Region Quarterfinals: November 14
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 3 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 2 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.- Mon.-Fri.); Could potentially get 4 games played in the first two weeks with a modified schedule (Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat.) because the first contest date would potentially be a Monday. This may not be ideal early in the season, particularly with an atypical preseason.
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season.

Option B (Assumes top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 21
Region Finals: November 28
State Semifinals: December 5
State Championships: December 12

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 4 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 3 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules
(e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri. or Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat.) This may not be ideal early in the season, particularly with an atypical preseason.
3. Maintains regular calendar for the post season, sans region quarterfinals.
4. Creates additional week for regular season games.

Option C (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 8 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: November 21
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 4 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 3 traditional game dates
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules
(e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri. or Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat.) This may not be ideal early in the season, particularly with an atypical preseason.
3. Maintains regular postseason process; moving region and state dates 1 week later increases the weeks available for regular season games, but also increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Option D (Assumes moving state final back 1 week & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: November 28
Region Finals: December 5
State Semifinals: December 12
State Championships: December 19

NOTES:

3. Maintains regular postseason process, sans region quarterfinals; moving region and state dates 1 week later increases the weeks available for regular season games, but also increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Scenario #4
First Practice Date: October 15
First Contest Date: November 2 (15 days practice, 1 scrimmage)
First Contest Date: November 7 (20 days practice, 2 scrimmages)

Option A (Assumes moving state final back 2 weeks & top 4 teams per region)
Region Quarterfinals: N/A
Region Semifinals: December 5
Region Finals: December 12
State Semifinals: December 19
State Championships: December 26

NOTES:
1. 1 scrimmage – 4 traditional game dates; 2 scrimmages – 4 traditional game dates (if you use the first Saturday).
2. Schools could squeeze in additional games dates with modified schedules (e.g., Thur.-Mon.-Fri.)
3. With only 1 scrimmage, teams could get 4 games played in the first 2 weeks with a Mon.-Fri.-Tues.-Sat. modified schedule.
4. Moving region and state games back two weeks increases the potential for inclement weather during region and state games.

Football will be played in the spring. The VHSL cannot survive financially without the state football playoffs and individual athletic departments can't find other sports without football revenue. That's why it will be played in the spring because a fall season without fans doesn't fix the revenue problem.
It's football in the spring and other sports also get to play or no sports at all for the entire school year.

As for Hayfield, is that true about H? Coach Hill is a great man. Was HC after Pugh had a stroke in ‘09. Was HC until 2013 or 2014. No idea why he was replaced. He was the man for that job.

Well, that's at least a glimmer of hope. Coonman get's his marching orders from Hogan the Hut, so he almost always does what Maryland does, just a week or two later. He'll have to backtrack on his official guidance that he just put out, but having principles isn't something our governor worries about.

I know Doc and LB are happy about this.
We have 4-5 D1 players who will be tearing it up this year.
With SoCo and Westfield being on the downside this year, look for LB to win it all

I believe this is the most talented team LB has ever had.
Doc and the staff have done such a great job with building this program and making it one of the most respected in the state.

He is a very good HS QB, but I dont think he will do very much at ODU.
Speed and athleticism will hurt him at the D1level,he ran a 5.0 40 at NIKE. They list him at 6'3 200, no way he is 200, maybe 175-180 at best. So he will need to red shirt and get stronger and much faster.

Edwards has trouble reading defenses at the HS level, colleges will be even more complex. Too many times you see in his tape, that he is just throwing the ball up and gets lucky, his receivers just make a play on the ball.

I think his talent level would have been more suited to a lower D1 level

"I think his talent level would have been more suited to a lower D1 level"??

How much lower than ODU do you get? 1-11 last year against mid level teams at best.

I expected a higher level team based on how Doc bragged about him here.

Doc's players go on to the next level.

Billy Edwards, QB, is going to play at ODU. Again this year, look for LB to have at least 5-6 or more D1 players.

No school in this region or the state has as many players going on to play at the next level, as Doc has. I think that speaks volumes for the job Doc and staff does with the players. He coaches them up and they are ready to play college football.
I can see him in the near future taking on a college job, but until then watch out for the Bruins

People should now clearly see why everyone is saying this is the best staff in the state!

Doc runs his program just like a college program and the boys are accountable.

They are having virtual meetings with the team, going over the plays and expectations for each player. The players then go out and do the workouts as designed. This staff cares about these boys and keep a close eye on them to make sure things are being done the right way.

That's why they are the best staff in the state. Everyone on here knows that

I dont think the Robinson kid made all state. Dont get me wrong, he is big but just being big doesnt cut it. At this time, he doesn't compare to previous big men from NOVA such as Tim Settle, Matt Burrell. This year could be his breakout year though, time will tell. The best big man in NOVA this past season was the Chantilly kid by far.

LB will be LB, what's new. Nothing special, very vanilla. Without their TE from this past season, it might be a little tougher than just throwing the ball up and hoping he catches it. They barely beat a slightly above average team in MV in the playoffs then got rocked as usual.

Being entitled can only carry you so far.

Tristan Leigh was 1st team all-state in 6A as a JR. The Chantilly kid is a project type kid at the college level. He isn’t close to the same level as Leigh. Leigh is nearly as big and 4x the athlete. Settle and Burrell, as talented as they were did not have both the size and athleticism of Leigh. If he continues to develop he could be a 1st round NFL type guy.

What makes you think Westfield and Soco will be "down" this season? They will be the two best teams from Fairfax County no question.

Sorry, no where near the talent of a Allen, Burrell or Settle. He is athletic, but he doesn't have the mindset of a high Power 5 school lineman. He will need to gain some weight and hopefully that doesn't negate his athleticism. I dont think he will see the field at those schools. Against LB, he has never been a factor.

Just watched his highlight tape. He had 4-5 pancakes against LB alone last year.
No one is ever a guarantee, but all major coaches and recruiting rankings have him as one of the 3-4 best OL in the country. I think they may know more than you.

Ricky Slade was a 5 star recruit and 1 of the top RBs in the nation at one time. He is now transferring to ODU to get playing time.
I am not saying Leigh isn't a good player, but I think he is more of a combine superstar then a top lineman. 4-5 pancakes, please, He did not dominate any game against LB.

If there is no fall sports season and the students go back in the fall all virtual (online) a senior could decide to opt out of school and repeat his senior year the following year. Therefore, keeping his eligibility intact under the grounds that this student has difficulties learning in the virtual environment.

Its a gray area as they have no redshirt rule in high school, this would be unprecedented, however so are the times we are in.

Its either going to be that or a mass exodus to private schools and players reclassing.

How many past head coaches on your staff.

Westfield and SC have much better staffs and prove it over you every year.

Over the past 3 years, Doc and staff has had more talent at LB then any school in the region and he still cant Westfield or SoCo. He will never win the north region. Put Doc and staff at Woodson, Fairfax or WS and you will never hear of him again

Westfield is the staff full of coaches with experience running 6A programs, I believe. South County has had plenty of talent too. To put all of their success on coaching sounds like.....a coach’s opinion. Grow up. Now if Lake Braddock cannot beat these teams in 2020 (God willing) with the talent they have and the circumstances favoring established staffs with returning starters- then they will deserve any and all criticism.

Bottom line is no one knows for sure. Everyone is lobbying hard for their respective interests so if you want sports you have to push not just the VHSL but your local and state politicians as well. If the lockdown folks are the only people they are hearing from we will never leave Phase 3.

Dr. Haun stressed that they are thinking “out of the box” just in case the fall season gets pushed back too far by the Covid-19 restrictions. This model, while informative, is by no means a proposal.

The only viable option is to move to create a new schedule. Move fall sports to the late winter/early spring. Another option would be to move spring sports to the fall. Spring sports fit the current climate better than football and volleyball. Start sports Sept 1 or Oct 1 and get what you can. Start winter sports in January. Then fall sports in late March. Everyone wins.

How does everyone lose when in my suggestion everyone plays. All seasons would play just at a different time. There needs to be out of the box thinking. Keeping status quo someone will most likely not play. The article discusses a VHSL idea where sports would all be moved to end of the school year, and seasons would overlap. Would you force athletes to choose?

The season will be pushed back. But, they will hopefully be able to play. There is no way possible that sports are played this fall with the school schedules that are being illustrated as options.

VHSL is laying the groundwork for no sports this fall. It only makes sense based on what is happening with covid-19 and how schools will be operating this fall. Everyone gets to play, maybe at a different time of year, but all sports will be played. Keep in mind, that is the best case scenario, in my opinion.

You are thinking INSIDE THE BOX. If there are no sports this fall - THERE WILL ALSO BE NO SPORTS IN THE WINTER OR SPRING.

What could possibly be different in December/January or March/April than now? Absolutely nothing. By not pushing for sports this fall you are pushing for no sports this entire school year.

Some public school systems in VA, NC, SC, NY and Mass are looking into having rising junior/senior athletes sit out the entire school year and start their junior/senior year in the fall of 2021. Reclassification will be based on age, grades and other factors, to determine who can qualify. Parents can petition the school system to see if their student qualify.

It sounds like the makings of a good plan, its done at the private schools all the time.

Why not....isn't that what they are essentially doing with the the way they set up the online learning in FCPS? No grades, no attendance checks...why not just take the year off and be safe

OK. So what's the plan if it takes a couple of YEARS to get this under control? Take a couple of years off school? Shut down life for 2-3 years? What is wrong with you people? About 4 in a 1000 die. We'll all be living in Mad Max world by then killing each other in a bitter survival mode.

The coaches can with meet with the players for conditioning and give them direction. Nothing wrong with the players doing 7v7 and getting some practice time in, the coaches are only watching they are not coaching. A lot of teams are just filming the workouts so the coaches can see what they are doing and then give direction.

2020 Concorde District Rankings High/Lowest possible record

(No Particular Order)(High represents the highest record the team can get realistically. High doesn’t mean rankings for the entire district just represents the team record itself.)(Low= Vice Versa)
1. Westfield High (9-1) Low (7-3)
2. Madison High (8-2) Low (6-4)
3. Chantilly High (8-2) Low (7-3)
4. Centreville High (7-3) Low (5-5)
5. Oakton High (4-6) Low (2-8)

Realistic 2020 Concorde District Rankings Prediction

1. Westfield (8-2) (Losses to Lake Braddock, Upset Team) A strong Lake Braddock team that finally gets over the hump and hands Westfield a loss on the year. (For complexity purposes i’ll make the team Unity Reed that defeats Westfield but any team on the schedule thats strong enough could hand the Bulldogs a second loss). Despite the record prediction it doesn’t guarantee a Westfield title as schools like Madison High School also have a good chance at upsetting the Bulldogs this year leaving the district wide open.

2. Madison (6-4) (Losses to Stone Bridge, South County, Robinson, Westfield) Madison’s upset loss is against Robinson. All the while Madison could beat Westfield which is a really good possibility this year making Madison a contender for the District. If Madison can pull off a win against Westfield the district becomes wide open for Chantilly, Centreville, and Madison to win a district title.

3. Chantilly (7-3) (Losses to Westfield, Madison, Centreville) Chantilly has a very good possibility to beat Centreville for the second year in a row and start their own win streak after breaking the 9 year losing streak this past season. Despite their losses from Seniors, Chantilly is also a contender for the district title despite what others believe.

4. Centreville (6-4) (Losses to Westfield, Madison, Mount Vernon, Stone Bridge) Again Centreville has a good chance to lose to Chantilly for the second year in a row. All the while they could have their own win flip by beating Mount Vernon and finish the season (7-3 or 6-4) Centreville is also a contender for the district championship.

5. Oakton (3-7) (Beats Langley, Fairfax, West Potomac) Oakton’s upset win is against West Potomac. Oakton could have another upset win this season against Woodson and finishing the year with a record of (4-6)

These predictions are way early yet fun to think about. Of course more accurate predictions will come as the season gets closer and we’ll be able to see how each team is doing. Hopefully a season does indeed happen.

Not a bad first read. Westfield will go 10-0 again. Definitely will be Region/State contenders. Madison/Centreville strong 2nd. I don't see Chantilly doing much.

I want to play football as much as the next person, but how on earth can FCPS allow tackle football to go on if they are mandating 6ft of distance in the classroom and on the school bus. Until those restrictions go away and all students who want to be at school can be there every day I see no way this School Board allows tackle football. Maybe a few sports with no contact but definitely not football and basketball type sports. If those sports are out where's the money coming from to pay for the other sports. Feel bad for the kids.

The 6ft rule is what should be abolished. It's arbitrary. Likewise I have seen no evidence that this virus is spread easily outdoors. Outdoor sports should not have any restrictions. Part of this hysteria is the belief that inhaling 1 breath of virus-laden air will cause an infection. Not demonstrably true. Look up viral load.

Westfield coming in with 7 wins at the least? Seems generous. They are losing A LOT. I think all the out of county schools can beat them. (Stonewall, Champe & Battlefield) No idea what the hell to expect from Westfield this year. Don’t they have a new coach? They are scrimmaging MV this year, as opposed to a WCAC or Quince Orchard, which tells me they are not going to be very good this year.

I think everyone including Westfield and South County knows this is the year for Doc and the Bruins
All the coaches that have bad mouthed Doc will get their payback. Look for double digit wins in almost all games.

What is Doc's best win at LB? I don't think he's beaten anyone with equal or better talent than he has had. When you can get a few wins you don't deserve, that's when you know you have a good coaching staff.

If it wasn't for so many bad calls in the regional final game against SoCo, LB would have easily won that game.

That is not what the article says at all. It says they are optimistic about starting on time. PA is taking it day by day and will wait to make a decision. No need to made the final decision July 6th when you don’t start until August. VA has said the same thing.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Doc has been the savior of this program. When he took over the program, it was in total disarray, Doc quickly put together one the best staff's in the state and turned it around, They are now one of the top programs in the state. Thanks for all you do Doc!

What has Doc done really done at Lake Braddock? Oh yeah, the kids behave...oh wait even that's not true. GTFOH, Doc is in over his head, all that talent, LB should be in double digit wins ever year.

3 years Before Doc:
2014 10-3 2 playoffs wins
2015 11-2 2 playoff wins
2016 11-2 2 playoff wins
Totals 32-7 6 playoff wins

3 years with With Doc:
2017 8-4 1 playoff win
2018 7-4 0 playoff wins
2019 10-3 2 playoff wins

Isn’t this comparing one man’s last 3 years with the program to another man’s first 3? Hardly a fair comparison. This place is full of jokesters. It seems that the new coach has them poised to compete for a state title with the first group to play for him for 4 years. Impressive!

Yes Doc, it is full of jokesters on here, mainly LB people spouting off at the mouth about the wonderful job that you are doing. Also, It's not necessarily first 3 or last 3 years with the program. Its showing that the program was not in disarray, when you took it over, Doc. Every year you say that LB is poised to compete for a state title, so far, what we have seen has not been impressive!

Some disturbing news coming out from a Soco instagram account where a student in the class of 2022 at Lake Braddock who was on the football team this past year was forced to lick the private parts of an upperclassman on the Lake Braddock football team. They also claim that the coaches there don’t do anything about it and the culture on the team between underclassman and upperclassman is bad. It’s quite disturbing to read. There is much more on it wish someone could post it.

The Woodson of 2019 was not Chantilly, it was Yorktown. Senior loaded good defenses who cant compete with the established programs.

Not gonna happen. Westfield has a solid 2 year starter at QB transferring in for his senior season. They already have 4 or 5 rising seniors with D1 offers. And arguably the best RB in the state. No glaring weakness anywhere. This has the potential to be a really good season for the Dawgs. Unless COVID wins.

Google herd immunity and see that chances of it actually happening. It didn’t work for the Spanish Flu why would it work for this. I agree we can’t live in lock down forever, but we can be smart about what can and should happen. Football might not be the best right now, but it could be in a few months. This shouldn’t be a political discussion, it should be science.

This is another thing that is wrong with the world. Who in their right might would trust that you can get accurate, reliable and unbiased information by "Googling" anything? If you are patient and willing to scroll through the first 10,000 results you might start finding something other than propaganda.

Option three gives schools the best opportunity to play all sports and makes the most sense. The season alignment would be winter sports from Dec. 14 - Feb. 20 with the first contest date on Dec. 28; fall sports from Feb. 15 - May 1 with the first contest date on March 1; and spring sports April 12 - June 26 with the first contest date on April 26.

The condensed season allows all the sports to play and gives schools the ability to reopen and deal with any potential outbreaks within the school before starting sports. The negative side would be fewer games

All of the NOVA DSAs and Principals should vote for that. If they vote to take any sports away, then the DSAs should be fired. The DSAs job is sports, sure there may be additional work to do with the schedules and logistics but that's their job!!!
Otherwise, they aren't needed!!

With some planning and preparation from the DSAs office, it would be the best alternative for everyone. Since most sports wouldn't start until December, that's 5 months for planning. Sounds like a great option

We know our guys and Doc and staff will do what it takes to be ready!!

Both Edwards and Leigh probably have a chance to play early, they would be foolish to risk injury playing a make shift high school season.

Agreed on choice of recruits to perhaps forego winter football. And what about those who play baseball and lacrosse. Will they risk injury by playing an abbreviated season?

Incorrect. Football starts 15 Feb with the first game NET 1 March. All competition (regular season and playoffs, if they decide to have playoffs) must be done NLT 1 May.

Points to focus on
School virtual no sports.
Not in phase 4 no sports.
No vaccine or cure no sports.
The flu season spikes November - February

We will still be virtual in winter and likely bump down a phase and not bump up. There will not be any sports also because we will not be in school.

How many senior football players will skip the spring football season 2021?
This could alter the landscape a bit, depending on who opts out. Some teams were banking on a great senior class.

Factors:
1. Those with scholarships in hand, wont want to risk injuries
2. Those whose primary sports are baseball or lacrosse (injury risks with seasons so close together)
3. Some will just lose interest

Schools that lose starting QBs or all region type skill players will be most affected.

Players that I can think of:
LB QB
LB WR
WTW QB
HAY WR

Madison has a lot of baseball and lax kids. Not sure which sport they would consider their priority.

I heard someone is starting a tackle football league for high school players to play in the fall out in Loudon county.
They will be playing a national schedule? Against who?

How is that going to work?
Players playing this league in the fall and with their respective high school teams in the Spring, sounds like a recipe for disaster!

Has football really become AAU basketball and Travel soccer now?

Sounds like a major investment of cash from the players and a high risk of injury as well. Organizations like these are generally in it for the money they can make off the players and not the best interest of the players. I will reserve judgment on this after I see more details on this

VHSL and a lot of high schools in the country, as well as, most college football programs have deemed it to risky to play football this fall. But some club in NOVA is putting together a football team(s) to play in the fall?
Oh yeah! That's a good idea!!

Risk of injuries
Risk of virus spreading amongst the coaches, players, families?
Law suits?

Has this really been thought thru?

I dont see that going very far, maybe 1 or 2 games at most.
Teams will end up cancelling for various reasons. If you look at private schools that are not affiliated with a district or conference, they usually get a lot of games canceled. Im curious, how are they going to practice legally? I thought contact sports could not go until further notice?

Just my thoughts:

Starting a tackle football league in the fall is just a big moneymaker for the organizers, like all those 7v7 all star teams. No players are getting scholarships from 7v7, like they say. Its all filling the pocket of the organizer.

These players are going pay a lot of money to play a couple games to get some game tape? Wait and play in the spring with your legit HS team that will mean much more in the long run

You are going to take them to college campuses to meet coaches? They can do that for free themselves

Regardless of what they say, the level of competition will not be very good, most likely homeschools or small private schools. College coaches will see right through that

If you do not get the looks you want, go to Prep School or Jr College, those are legit and will get much more attention from coaches then these organizations that are just trying to line their pockets with your money

As of today, 14 states + DC have banned high school football this fall. 13 Democrat governors, 1 Republican.

14 states are allowing fall football, normal schedules. 12 Republican governors, 2 Democrat.

The other 26 states have either
1) made no decision yet
2) delayed starts
3) shortened the season

It's all political. Disgusting.

I can see how you draw that analysis from the breakout of Dem/Rep you state, but the decisions are not political-they are based on health decisions and personal beliefs and values. Yes, governors are politicians and are influenced by the beliefs of their party (otherwise they would not be in that party). Try not to mix things up because they are two different issues. The decisions fall along political lines but that is a consequence not an cause.

Uniforms and various other fees$500

Helmet $300
Shoulder pads $200
Various other pads $60
Travel and Lodging $200 for drivable $600 to fly per games

There are individual conferences in "open" states that are shutting down football. Mostly in Democrat controlled districts. So there will be plenty of kids available in states that theoretically have football. It's a free market. Kids want to play. Nothing wrong with that.

The only thing sad about it is that kids who can't afford the cost don't get the opportunity to play. The coaches won't make tons of money off of these kids, but it will stroke some of their egos. A lot of these coaches are your run of the mill personal trainer "I'll get you exposure" type guys. They've never been in charge of a legit HS football team.

This proves to me that it can be done, as long as your Governor isn’t a fucking Republican. It makes me angry/upset that other states are able to play as usual, and we aren’t playing solely for political purposes. Some coaches are wearing masks, some aren’t. I agree it's all political, but I am confused. The governors of Alabama, Utah and Tennessee are Republicans so your comment makes no sense.

Bottom line is - with reasonable precautions, everyone should return to normalcy. Locking down should never have been attempted as a LONG TERM solution because it is not.

Re: High School Football 2020

Conference champs do not get an automatic bid into the playoffs, all teams are seeded.

Mt Vernon or Hayfield will play 7 games in the district and could schedule 3 games against the Liberty district and will be 10-0 or 9-1 and both could be a top 3-4 seed for the playoffs.
The winner of FC and Justice game will make the playoffs as well. They will lose to Mt Vernon and Hayfield and play an easy out of district schedule and be 6-4, 7-3.
So basically you will have 3-4 District 2 teams in the playoffs.
So the rest of that region would be SoCo, LB, and the rest playing for the last 2-3 playoff spots.

The Concorde is toughest per usual although as many as 5 teams will make the playoffs for that region.

The districts won't matter that much when the VHSL goes to four divisions.
Then both regions will be combined into 1 region with only 8 teams making the playoffs.
Until then the 6C districts will be lopsided but I've heard they agreed to mini districts for football only with some cross scheduling between districts 1&2 to balence it out.

Grouping schools just by size is about the last reason they would make this move. It is more about rivalries and travel distances. And it does not help the weaker or smaller schools to just play similar programs, since they will not get better as easily.

Most of the smaller schools don't want to get better. They want to avoid being embarrassed. They would gladly go 9-1 or 8-2, get into the playoffs, then get crushed. Rather than take two or three beatings during the regular season and lose any since of success. Look at falls Church, Justice, Marshall. They've all improved their regular season records by playing no one and are still just as awful against the good teams.

"#we better then you" is the first give away - get back to ebonics
second is being concerned over kiddie football verse safety of students
selfish black women - worst stewards of children in the world

as for all the "men" blabbing on about kiddie football - go watch that pedo netflix movie "cuties", unless you are just gay pedos, then that movie is not for you

I am wondering if there is anyone who loves to bet? Anyway, I think that at least half of this thread is betting and collecting information from forums in order to make more money. Personally I bet on soccer on this platform https://www.m-trends.org. My purpose is not to make publicity on this website, but to find some guys that are kind of experts in football betting. The idea is that I want to create a discord with people that are betting on different sports, so we can share our experience and statistics in order to increase each others income.

Schedules for some sports for some areas of the state are already out (Football and basketball in the Beach area; some football in SW Virginia).

Has anyone seen any schedules for teams in our area?

Distrcit one is the toughest?? About the dumbest thing ive seen on this forum. One recent state title in that group, probably because westfield had there 3rd string runningback. The concorde district has always ran VA, and they always will.

If schedules in other parts of the state have been released, you have to think the NoVa schedules are complete also. Haven’t seen anything, though. Does anyone know?

The new Liberty is basically the SEC. Don't see a way one of these liberty teams isn't in Hampton this fall. Scary stuff. Scared for the Concorde.

Well this year the state championship will be at ODU!
But it will all go through Lake Braddock, mark it down! book it! Doc and the boys will be celebrating in the 757 in 2021!!

Doc and staff will not be denied!

Maryland just reversed course and are starting football October 7th I believe. Of course, VA is one of 10 (LIBERAL) states that won’t be playing this fall. It’s ridiculous. I feel bad for the kids.

Sometimes VA follows what MD does a week or so later. Hopefully this will be one of those things.

If the VHSL changes their plans to open up fall sports in the fall it would not be good for FCPS athletes. There is a 0% chance that the softies at gatehouse would allow athletics anytime soon. We'll be lucky to play in February. Currently FCPS is allowing some workouts to take place completely outside with numerous restrictions. Nothing remotely close to.competition. Hopefully, by the spring parents are so fed up FCPS is forced to play.

So now I adore making bets online and to say the truth, I don't understand why some people are still afraid of betting, it's an easy way of getting money nowadays. If you are interested in it now, I may recommend you to look at https://canada-betway.com and find something for yourself there. Good luck.

This exactly. Even if the rest of the state plays there is no way fairfax will allow play for now.
