Screw Military Discounts

I respect the military and the service they and their families perform.

But why on top of the other benefits they receive, should private businesses be compelled to offer even more discounts?

It is leading to an entitlement attitude that I have noticed.

No one compels any business to offer any such discount. Businesses offer discounts to the military or not at their discretion.

What you write makes no sense. A "private" business is just that. Private.
It's not compelled for any decisions. It makes its own.

So they can offer, or choose not to offer any discounts. For example, Home Depot does not. Lowes does, extending 10% discounts to military.

Aside from military discounts, many PRIVATE companies offer discounts to First Responders, too.

Let me guess. The OP is a school teacher.....
These commie teachers feel they are on the front lines fighting
everyday for justice. It troubles them that they brainwash just six
months per year and earn on average 100k in pay and benefits and receive no such discount.

Looks like teachers get their own series of discounts. Here's a list, and this is in addition to the GM and Sprint Cell discounts:

https://www.giftcardgranny.com/blog/the-complete-list-of-66-teacher-discounts/

Teachers once again get it all. Huge pay /effort, plus freebies or discounts.

I’m okay with them getting discounts. I’m not okay with them getting preference for high paying jobs. Especially if they don’t have similar credentials of non vet applicants. Just because you rolled around in the mud and learned how to clean a rifle at boot camp doesn’t mean you should get preferential treatment. Vets with actual combat experience should be the exception to the rule.

Get up at 430am every morning for 20 years defending pussies who hate the United States. Get back to me on the veteran discounts issue after you've done that.

You should follow your own advice then and actually serve before you spout such nonsense.

If you consider invading countries for oil, or dropping bombs on civilians “defending”, then okay.

Im for fair treatment but dont expect to be treated better than others. No one forced anyone to join the military. If you had to wake up at 4am for 20 years on my tax dollars, whats so different about non military waking up at 4am doing their shifts? Dont get me started on excessive DOD spending and utter waste. Point is, stop acting like all military members are like those heroes depicted in the movies. I have family members that served and they act like they deserve more and should be respected when all they did was train, got admin jobs, got paid, free school, and collect benefits and retirement in their 40s to take on double benefits and retirement. And companies give them preferential treatment for "serving" while normal candidates are overlooked.

Military has both good and bad members, not everyone deserves better treatment.

I agree, good point. It is what it is. Yes, people say thanks for your service and I get occasionally a 10% discount from some stores. The only places I have experienced preferential treatment with a job is with government contractors. I am recruited all the time because of my service but also because of my security clearance.

Completed a lot of shopping this weekend. I received 10% and 20% on top of the Black Friday prices. To include going to the movies (most theaters give 10% military discounts on tickets and food).

Then I went to the PX where they match advertised prices and no sales tax.

Thanks to all the businesses that support the military.

Year after year...audits find excessive unnecessary spending and the shady system that is defense contractors where trillions of tax payer dollars are spent on ridiculously inflated products and services. If military wasn't so wasteful i hardly doubt anyone would raise a stink about the perks and benefits of military personnel. But then again so many military members misrepresent...many of which feel the publis owes and should serve them.

There are some insane examples of overpriced federal contracts, usually given to minority-owned companies. The government has quotas they must meet when issuing government contracts (8a, women owned, veteran-owned, etc) and sometimes the government has trouble finding a small company who can perform. In those cases, the government almost has no choice but award the contract because the contracting office has to meet their quota numbers. But for larger government contractors, you may be surprised to find out that the profit margin is between 9-10%. Apple makes 35-40% selling to their fan base and nobody bats an eye.

Military discounts are simply sales gimmicks. Next time a company asks if you were in the military, just say yes and take the discount.

It might initially feel awkward to ask for a discount, but the more you ask, the more you'll get the hang of it. In my experience, most people are happy to say yes to the request, and many times, those who have said no, do so apologetically. You need to check out for a gift card balance check in order to use a different gift card.
