How 18 Malware Apps written by the same developer were posted on app store: it was ad ware that cause apples to visit ad pages in the background, paying the author for bumping counts on those sites. it had previously been identified as issuing orders to ad fraud malware in a separate Android investigation
Apple said they didn't notice the malware because the software talked to a remote server which gave the phones "new instructions runtime"
(note the author had to sign a legal agreement to post in App Store - and is now in ALLOT of legal trouble, whereass for android - malware is invited and encouraged to be posted on android sites)
guess what it's a fake news story - all stories are on asian websites (that poe as pc magazines, those sites are all asian pushing fakes)
visit the news stories you'll find out quick: which 18 apps? not listed. which developer should i expect to be able to find a prison photo for? never told you
WHAT YOU FIND ON THESE ASIAN SITES ARE ADS FOR SELLING NORTON ANTI-VIRUS AND OTHER MALWARE FOR APPLE THAT OFTEN ARE NOT IN THE APP STORE - WHICH DO INSTALL MALWARE ON APPLE PRODUCTS (most PC viruses are released by norton affiliates and chinese - as it turns out, which is why Apple has never pushed using one and often has suggested AGAINST using such a product)

Unlike asian invasion android that promotes hacking: Apple forces developers to sign anti-harm anti-theft legal agreements
Apple looks at (some of) the software** and rejects them
AND FOR THAT APPLE GETS THE AWARD: ANDROID, STEAM, MICROSOFT - they promote malware but Apple actually spends money cleaning up the environment.
(they cannot have time to inspect every last line of code minutely, if they did they would have to disable ALL internet actually - which is more inspection than most people would like - they would complain for less inspection at that point. yes any link to IP is a risk - so pick apps you can trust are from people you could sue if you needed to)

the old "nix wares rule" for avoiding phone home trojans was this:
"if it needs root authority and wasn't written by at&t or sun: NO"
"if it uses Internet (or any IP even off it), and if it's job isn't doing that (ie, it's a text editor or calculator): DELETE IT" (the admin can tell by using binary investigation techniques)
(summary: you delete anything that wasn't from the trusted OS that uses networking - and your networking stack is not corrupt - that's how you start)
the old "nix wares rule" admin was this: only apps designed to be run as root can be run by admin (such as format and cp and login?) everything else, including 'vi' (and especially not a desktop), was not allowed and "asking for trouble".
nothing today follows any easily know safe practice !!
well, it's been improving if your using industry controlled professionally written wares - such as - the real root account is no longer really root
